The second question is regarding the enclosure: Is there a faceplate for slot-loading drives like ours (here's one: http://mac.macrecycling.com/slot-loading-optical-drive-bezel-panasonicmatshita-p-100903.html). I wish ayagroup carried this, so that all three items could be ordered from one source for the convenience and savings. I dont really mind not having a bezel on the enclosure, but it would look better for sure :)

Thanks!

The slot loading face plate for the enclosure is hard to get. Sorry.
However, we do carry a Panasonic DVD/CD IDE slot-loading optical drive. Very good price. If you do a search for this drive, we are one of the lowest priced and IT'S NEW (not used, not refurbish).
http://ayagroup.com/product.php?productid=17704&cat=17&page=1

We also carry the USB external one:

purchased a caddy from ayagroup yesterday.
will post pictures.

cheapest of the lot. I suppose.

Thank you for your purchase! I noticed a lot of our enclosure orders traffic comes directly from this site. All hard drive caddy (including international orders) and enclosure orders will ship today and you'll get tracking # via email notifications.

Thanks again all!

How about a discount for MacRumors forum members then ;)

Tenderidol, we did drop the price. Used to sell for $18.95, then after noticing traffic from here, we dropped it to $16.95 and now it's at $13.95. Unfortunately we don't have any more room for additional discount.

How to clone your original MAC-OSX partition from HDD to SSD?

Hi all,

I finally got my SSD drive :)...., both drives are installed and everything is working fine!

Could someone please help out explaining how you could restore/clone/move your 'original MAC-OSX' data to the newly created SSD partition?

Your help would be greatly appreciated!

You can either just use Time Machine backups, or any disk cloning proggies (e.g., Carbon Copy Cloner http://www.bombich.com/ or SuperDuper http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html).

How to install ayagroup drive

So i bought all the parts... UsCaddy, ayagroup usb enclosure for the superdrive and the panasonic slot loading bezel

1. I installed the US Caddy in my 15" macbook pro no problem.. now the 500gb HD is a backup inside for movies, and music. perfect

2. Im having a LOT of trouble installing the stock super drive into this ayagroup black, usb enclosure and the panasonic bezel. Im normally really good at these mods and putting electronics together/apart ... but for the life of me... I cant figure out how to do this.. it fits, but the screws dont lock it in place.. and the front bezel I bought.. definitely does not go on easily

Can someone post any pictures or tips?
p

ok i did it all.. but you have to use gaffers tape and etc etc
that ayagroup enclosure and the pioneer slotted bezel is NOT going to fit 100%

you have to chop down the metal on the superdrive, use gaffers tape
its not pretty

but it works

Exactly why I modded a MBA SuperDrive instead of trying to make the MBP SD fit into an enclosure. For $110 it looks great and I can use it everywhere. If I ever have to take my MBP in for service, I want to remove blame away from anything I've done regarding warranty issues. Hard to do with the front nubs hacked off the SD.

Have you tried playing any movies yet?

Just got DVD Player working last weekend. That was an adventure.....

yeah everything with burning and reading DVDs/CD are fine

but i just opened DVD player to Watch a movie using my external.. and it said Not Recognized as a valid dvd player

what was the work around?

Oh my. There was a thread this weekend with running dialogue on getting it to work.

You have to edit the Dev. A file in your system Frameworks folder. Pain in the ass but works beautifully. Messed up two OS's trying to get it to work.

ive been using the search to find it, but i cant find that thread.. do you think you can copy paste a link for us to read about it

thanks

$7.99 + $4.70 shipping

I bought this one and installed on my MacBook 13' Pro and it's working perfectly!

I didn't want to pay $40+ for a piece of converter, so I went ahead and ordered this one.

It fits after modifying a little bit.

Important thing is it is CHEAP and LOOKS GREAT!

I'll upload the picture soon.

The price is going down on those. I think I paid $7 more. Oh well.

Now you need this for your removed superdrive:

Did you buy the same one from eBay?

I think that seller has been selling for that price for a while.

And I found this for external USB case. I usually go for the cheaper ones since these converters are homogeneous.

Same thing but silver. Works fine.

I didn't buy from the same seller but it seems most all get the same products. I totally agree with you, get the cheapest you can so long as the seller has good ratings.

Super Cheap and Nice Alternative.

I had to clip-off some plastic parts that were in the way.

Luckily it was very easy to do using nail clipper.

The plastic parts were hard, but soft at the same time. like nails.

Other than that, it was pretty easy.

and did I mention the price?

grand total of $12.69 !

That little part was in the way of MacBook's sub-woofer. Clipped it right off.

This was in the way of screw holder for the bottom-case of MacBook. 4~5 clips with a big nail clipper.

finally got my package, well it was an international order... anyways.

Caddy from ayagroup.

It will not fit into your MBP.
You will have to remove the bezel.
It's very easy, just remove 6 screws. Remove the weird shaped metal plate.
Then proceed to remove the bezel
Beware of the sharp metal edges!

Fits nicely.

Does anyone know if the optibay for the mid-2009, non-unibody, 15" MBPs have this capacity (i.e SATA connection)? It's tough finding information on this model?

Also, has anyone noticed their HDD in the optibay running consistently without pause? I'm curious to know if the OBHD will run continuously or spin down when unused. Is any excess heat produced beyond normal?

Thanks

Edit: grammar

Don't follow you on this. Weren't all MBP's unibody from last year, 2008?

They released an update mid 2009 for processor speed, and I think maybe an added HDD? I can't remember the exacts, but it has the same overall shape as the Unibody, minus the battery removal.

That's the difference on the outside, but deep down, I'm afraid the ATA interface might be of a different flavor? I just hope its not PATA, is all. Thinking about it though, I'm pretty sure apple hasn't changed the super drive for ages. After doing some research, the late 2008 model is SATA, so I assume that the 2009 is also.

IDE or SATA, that is the question.:D I think it may be IDE. Does it show it listed under serial-ata under System Profiler?

Well if your seriously thinking about it, may as well crack it open and see. It's only a few screws and it'll help you get familiar with the task.

It's SATA
