MCE Optibay Alternative CHEAP

Im probably going to get the 500gb hd first and buy the ssd later this fall. I would get it all now but my tv died so Im buying a new one and dont have the money for both.

good idea, if you wait until fall im sure that the 160GB SSDs would cost what the 80GB SSDs do now anyway lol, so you might get a bonus.

dont forget to re-use the 160GB HD that is currently in there :p ;)

Really I never thought they would drop that much. Anyway I am going to pick up a $7 enclosure from ebay so that should work good right? I am also going to pick up 4gb of ram soon too.

when is fall for you? i dont even know what fall is (spring or autumn?) if its the one that im thinking of, in like 3-4months, then i would say the prices might fall $50 or around there..

but you never know..

the $7 enclosure should work, provided that it has a SATA interface :)
 
Yeah fall (autumn) for me is around November Ill probably order one maybe sooner. Im really want the Apple tablet so if that is released I want to save for that too. Also if I do get the 500gb one first and put that in place of the optical drive how do I install the OS on the ssd later on?

the tablet would be cool! pretty expensive though, im predicting $1k for the base model.

installing onto the SSD is EXACTLY the same as a normal HDD, put your OSX disc in, select your disc to install to (SSD in this case) and hit GO!.. simple

Ok great that sounds easy enough. Do you recommend any drive enclosures for the superdrive? I really hope the tablet isnt over $800. Anything over that people would just buy the MB.

i searched this on ebay and found this and this..

the problem with those is that they arent really "mac" optical drive friendly as they arent slot loading, as opposed enclosures that are not.. could still work though :):)

good point about the tablet! MBs are cheaper, but the iPhone is what, $400-$800?? doesnt leave much room for the iTablet...

Oh man iPhones are alot more expensive in Australia in the US there $99 for the 8gb 3g, $199 16gb 3gs, $299 32gb 3gs.

i dont know if that is with plans or not, if you go to say an Optus store you can sometimes find them for "free", but you end up paying for it in the contract.

i normally purchase outright, much easier.

You can but its $175 and I think AT&T wants the iPhone back. AT&T should really stop being so cocky Verizon's service blows theirs out of the water and I think Apple's sorry they didnt allow a small verizon logo on the phone and I think Verizon is sorry they didnt cave to apple's demands.

yea its a rediculous situation, i have heard bad bad things about AT&T.. they are similar to a telco company called Telstra here in Australia. they are both baaaaaad. only in it for their shareholders.

would be nice, it sounds like AT&T is really bad. a better option would be for the customer to choose who they want to go to.. but who lets you choose these days :rolleyes:
