Smell my textbooks.........

Proof that this was a controlled leak:

Before he's even asked about the Apple tablet, the text at the bottom says "McGraw: Expect a McGraw-Hill E-book for the College Mkt. on an Apple Tablet". This means is was a pre-written, pre-approved talking point for this interview. He didn't just accidentally leak something on the fly.
Or the interview was recorded earlier, and not live.

As I suspected, a big #%!* iPod!

It seems to be another Apple restricted revenue stream, another gizmo! I will still hope, against odds, that tomorrow when it is announced there will be some sort of portal to real computing via the cloud or remote access to my home Mac....or something to make this more than a media consumption toy. This means bluetooth to external keyboard and mouse. But I am not holding my breath anymore...

I still assume that it will be 1280 x 800 resolution.

For most people the iphone os more than enough. Also on a 7 to 10 inch tablet youre not going to be doing any hardcore computing. Im excited about it.

This is going to be another flash-on-the-iPhone debacle.

Debacle? I don't miss Flash on my iPhone at all. Frankly, I'm glad that I don't have to navigate ridiculous all-Flash websites on the small screen. And at the rate the iPhone is selling, the market doesn't seem to miss Flash at all either.

And if you're not tech-savvy enough to have a mobile-alternative website to compliment your Flash website for the millions of iPhones out there (and other smartphones which also don't have Flash), well, too bad for you because you're missing out on a lot of eyeballs.

that's got to be one of the main points of this stupid thing is to be able to watch TV on the go and you absolutely, positively have to have Flash if you're going to do that...

Try HTML 5 + h.264. The era of the Flash-ruled Web has to end. Period.

THING IS...

What we will see over this coming year is a merging of iPhone OS and Mac OS... the lines between them will become more blurred.

I agree with that. Mobile operating systems have evolved in the past 5 years or so in ways desktop OS's haven't. Eventually the window format on desktops and laptops won't be standard. It's hard for some people to keep that all organized. I sometimes lose files on my hard drive. That doesn't happen on mobile OS's. There are the rumors out there of a touch screen iMac. That kind of goes along with this idea.

I think that everyone knew this was coming. We didn't really get anything we weren't expecting from this guy. All he did was confirm the endless amounts of rumors. The sheer amount of them confirmed it's existance on their own, but we finally heard someone say it on TV, which was kind of cool. I still just want to see the damn thing already...

So the Name is the Apple "Tabloid"

I actually really like that name. It fits perfectly, Tablet and Print Media.

He calls it that twice, before correcting himself to Tablet.

Still waiting for the PowerBook G5. LOL

Maybe in another 10 years, when they worked all the kinks out.

Just like the Tablet, years in comming, LOL.

I would have expected it to be iphone OS since it's a tablet. What we still do not know is if it's as limited as the iphone. They could have opened up the OS on the tablet so it functions like a regular computer.

As usual people miss the point. They are not asking for literally Mac OSX on the device. They are asking for Mac OSX to be redesigned from the ground up to take advantage of multitouch. That is a revolution. An expensive tablet running a phone OS and being locked into the App Store with a data plan is not a revolution.

Oh yes, for the record I would have been willing to spend $2,000 on a device like this.
running a phone OS?

Please just enjoy the show tomorrow and take notes.

Hey is there some big announcement tomorrow????

Seriously folks..lets just wait till tomorrow and see what happens. Reading this thread is like watching a bunch of paparazzi feed on Jon and Kate. No one know what the hell this thing is gonna run or be so stop guessing. Until I see and hear it straight from the mouth of our "creator" ..then I'lll believe it and or criticize the decisions made in building it.

Anyone else reminded of Ender's Game? Each student has their very own tablet computer, with easy access to immense amounts of data and educational games and puzzles.

The similarities are not lost on me. And the fact that Orson Scott Card was 30 years ahead of his time, and apparently spot-on, is amazing.

Jon

Yeah, I remember that. I loved those books.

You guys are hilarious. A "controlled leak", yeah right.

Terry McGraw is the CEO of a multi-billion dollar company, not to mention the fact that the company has his name on it, as it did his father and grandfather, etc. etc.

The guy simply wanted to sound like he knew what he was talking about, and probably should have left it with "it will be terrific".

Man, talk about a feed frenzy.

It was clearly a "controlled leak," with Apple PR's blessing. It's obvious listening to the interview that the topic of the tablet was planned, not a random blurt. It's even on the chiron before they start discussing it. Also McGraw had to sign the same NDA as everyone else. I'm positive the CEO of a business business like McGraw knows better than to yap w/o permission. Apple can't do it so they let him be the proxy.

Not really. Much of that stuff is delayed by ~15-20 seconds minimum and the director can input those lines as they happen. I've seen it happen on a bunch of different interviews on CNBC. Often the morning bell is 15-20 seconds behind the real bell.

Welcome to Mac Rumors. This is tradition before a big Apple Event. Come back tomorrow around 3pm eastern for the Kvetch Fest. And then in late Feb for the "I'm in line" and "FedEx just shipped mine" fest.
