Agreed. Plus, if you were to have all your college textbooks on the Tablet, one could easily be screwed by their Tablet going out while studying for a test. Book's have to be the most reliable things out there really.

true. suddenly it dawned on me....

ebook appulous?

heaven.

*pardon my falling back in love*

I see your point, I do

But the iPod entered into a market that wasn't really there. Where their players? Yes. But the big names of today weren't really around. Apple jump started that field. So while the Rio was around, it wasn't a dominate force in a big market.

The iPhone entered into a whole new world. Phones( in this case smartphones) had a real market. Palm OS, Windows Mobile and Symbian were big players, the market for those devices was bringing in cash. The iPhone shows up,and shakes up how the market works. Apps, touch screens, etc become standard.

I'm not saying the tablet won't be a big hit. But the market it is entering is one very different from the iPod and iPhone. iPod just didn't have many big names in an unproven market. iPhone had big names in a proven market, but changed the game. The tablet enters into a world where tablets haven't done well, despite many big names trying.

That said, if anyone can make the tablet viable, its Apple.

There was a bigger mp3 market before the iPod than there is a tablet market now.

We all know its being announced tomorrow or all hell is going to break lose in San Francisco.

Only 2 things interest me,

1) When will it be on sale in the UK?

2) How much will it cost us?
:):)

As I have said before, I think that this thing will be no more than between £450 and £500 without contract. In the US probably $650 to $700.

Also, this was definitely a controlled leak

arent they in time for updates? i was thinking about getting a Mac Pro, until I was at the apple store and officially fell in love with what my girlfriend calls, "mini mac" - mac mini.

Probably somewhat soon. Once the 6-core Xeon's (I want to say Gulftown) become more mainstream they will get the yearly update. Honestly though, if you are contemplating getting a Mac Pro or a Mac Mini, I'd really think that you wouldn't need a Mac Pro. The Mac Pro market is really diminishing and is more of a niche market as are almost all desktops these days.

that would be a reason i would buy this if all it was ebook/itouch. my human biology book was 160 at the school!

omg guys nooo macbook PRO updates!!! :( ive been waiting sooo long for this for nothing, what a waste of time.. damn tablet....we need macbook pro updates more.....its basicly the same as the white macbook:mad::confused::eek:

relax, breathe, maybe something completely different will be announced tomorrow
Agreed. It's the 2001 iPod thread all over again. OMG, it will totally flop, it's too overpriced, who could possibly want this, yada yada. Steve must feel a bit like James Cameron, with the iPod = Titanic and the tablet = Avatar.

Shouldn't naysayers have learned by now that Apple wouldn't release something unless they're confident that it will sell like hotcakes?

Granted, there is a small possibility that the tablet will end up like Steve's earlier pet project, Apple TV. But it's probably going to be a hit, and it will play out as follows:

- The presentation will not persuade the naysayers, in fact they will come back online with a told-ya-so 'tude and make long lists of the product's flaws.

- After a few weeks the yay-sayers will have discovered what's so irresistable and addictive about the tablet.

- Eventually the naysayers will run into the yaysayers who will be gushing incessantly about the marvels of the tablet.

- A few months down the line the naysayers will reluctantly get with the program and buy tablets

- A year later the naysayers will be inseparable from their tablets and they'll have no recollection of ever having doubted its greatness

also, I mean REALLY would it be necessary to by a tablet if you just subscribe to one newspaper.

I mean how many of us on here REALLY read magazines/books like that, WITH subscriptions, and how many subscriptions do you have. I myself check news on CNN and thats good enough for me, local news paper online OCCASIONALLY.

how my of you guys actually want to read anything extra aside from what you may see on your television broadcasts.

i mean the device has to have features that appeal to a LARGE MAJORITY of people that REGULARLY and OFTEN use the features.

Just having an tablet thats an iTouch + your subscription to local paper + wall street journal and maybe even 1 + 2 boooks is REALLY a retarded reason to purchase this thing.

I don't watch tv news, and I read a lot of things. Having a device where I could read several newspapers, periodicals and the like would be awesome.

I used to have like 15 magazine subscriptions many years ago and read2-3 papers a day. I like to read. The internet has impacted that some, but I still read a ton a day, and having a device where I could do that in more comfortable settings would be awesome.

This device is going to be for people who not only like to read, but people like you who want to watch videos as well. You will be able to check your CNN news, and perhaps even your local news via video when you want to, when you go to the john etc.

Sure iphones and such can sort of do this, but the reality is they are too small. People are hung up on the idea of carrying these around everywhere. It would be enough for me just to have it around my house to be able to read. It would get a ton of use in my house by a lot of people because people do a lot of reading in my house.

Beyond that though, it will allow bigger access to things that won't require a much more bulky notebook or netbook to share videos and the like.

To me it has a lot of potential. the proof will be in the pudding, but people dismissing it because they can't figure out why anyone would use it literally have zero imagination.

I am talking about people who started off counting at 10 not being able to imagine there is an 11.

those will be me, but i mean im not doubting this thing, im just a bit prematurely...worried.

The only part of that interview that didn't strike me as prepared was when he calls the device the Tabloid twice and then corrects himself and says Tablet. Was this a genuine slip and is it going to be called the Apple Tabloid?

WOW! that is actually a great name! i love the name tabloid! damn i hope it is tabloid .....cant believe:D no one has though of that yet...its so simple too lol

1. dad works for ny times for 25+ years for advertising and gets it for free. (new york times news paper)

2. i get game informer

3. mom get something idk what

4. dad also get sports and some other newpaper he pays for

5. going to collge soon would be easy

6. its :apple::rolleyes:

Sorry for not quoting goobot directly but I didn't want to take the time to find his original post.

Anyways, it is rather ironic that this was brought up. I just got on this discussion today in a class that relates to all of this. I am just like alot of you guys. I pick up a magazine or two at most each month but the average american reads 12! Insane. I couldn't believe that when I heard it/read it. 12 a month. I realized some like TIME are weekly but still!

My next thing I wonder about the tablet is advertising. To this day, companies have always preferred print. Will this tablet change it? I don't really seem to think so but I guess time will tell on that one. Just like the girl in the CNBC video, I seem to prefer real pages when reading long pieces of information.

On an ending note, I do hope the guy from McGraw Hill doesn't end up like a FoxConn employee.

i understand your reasoning. and YOU are those who would greatly benefit from the tablet, but as many people as i know and look around, I cant see this device benefiting large masses such as the iphone/ipod.

like a few have noted, maybe this will turn out like.....apple tv?

Anyone else think Apple could roll out its cloud computing tomorrow with the device? A small HD on the tablet would be acceptable as all software could be on another computer.

Some of you guys are looking too deep into this E-Book thing. . . IT WILL be more then just that. Probably a major feature they'll push BUT I doubt a 10" screen would just be for that and apps.

Isn't there a rumor out about a Touch capable version of iWork?

Can't wait until tomorrow!!!I tried to act as if I'd be able to wait until the recorded stream but I won't be able to. Lol

You simply don't do any serious reading and haven't used an e-book reader if you actually think any of the e-book readers that the current technology can offer are even remotely close to replacing actual books. Trying to read a novel on it is a painful experience all around.

Wat?

I have read scores of books on a kindle. What are you talking about.

I am old but you must be really old.

you must be old... no offense, but the tablet has the very real possibility of replacing magazines, newspapers, and books.

cost effective? The same could have been said for the $600 iPhone when it was released. People will be willing to pay for the elegance and connivence to have all their publications at their finger tips.

So are you saying that this stack of magazines next to me - that I subscribe to for free via frequent flier miles - is not at my fingertips?

The iPhone was $600 for all of two weeks, and the people who paid that got reimbursement of some sort. There's a massive difference between comparing the $400 iPhone to a $200 Blackberry and a magazine subscription that will show up for $10 at my house to a $10 magazine subscription that requires a $1000 tablet.

My next thing I wonder about the tablet is advertising. To this day, companies have always preferred print.

interesting. i wonder will they aim to make personalized advertising, based on your internet browsing habits?
