forgive me if someone already said this but could the iPhone finally be getting Flash support? The reason I say this is because, the tablet will be running a "version" of the iPhone OS and we know it just can't ship without flash support so maybe with the 4.0 release for the iPhone (the same one the tablet will be using), flash support will finally arrive.. Maybe this is part of the "overhaul".

oh dear god, please no flash! or at least the option to switch it off and leave it off.
ever since getting flash-blockers on all our computers, every visit to the internet seems "snappier" ;-)
Activity Monitor confirms that flash is a waste of time and energy

The more news that is leaking out, the more I am starting to become disappointed.

The Apple Tablet sounds like a glorified e-book with multimedia capabilities.

Would a tablet running native OS X really impress people and revolutionize the tablet market?

I do believe there are tablets running Win7, and you know how exciting and world changing that turned out to be..

People really forget what this Tablet is aimed at. If its just OS X running on a tablet platform, what differentiates it from the MBP's or even a tablet running Win7?
And if that's the case, I really have to struggle as of why I want to buy this tablet thing when I already own a MBP. The only reason I can think of is the tablet being able to run iPhone apps, while my MBP may or may not be able to do so after tomorrow's announcement.
(IMO, to restrict all MBP and desktop computers from running the apps while a tablet running the same OS can does not make much sense)

Running native OS X on a tablet is like running Win7 minus all the touch friendliness (the little it is known to currently have).

So, it's obvious its running some spin off the iPhone OS, which literally is a touch friendly OS X. And this is pretty much what McGraw has confirmed.

Now let's not spoil the anticipation to what that "spin" might be. I'm positive that it'll be much better than running native OS X on a tablet!!

also, I mean REALLY would it be necessary to by a tablet if you just subscribe to one newspaper.

I mean how many of us on here REALLY read magazines/books like that, WITH subscriptions, and how many subscriptions do you have. I myself check news on CNN and thats good enough for me, local news paper online OCCASIONALLY.

how my of you guys actually want to read anything extra aside from what you may see on your television broadcasts.

i mean the device has to have features that appeal to a LARGE MAJORITY of people that REGULARLY and OFTEN use the features.

Just having an tablet thats an iTouch + your subscription to local paper + wall street journal and maybe even 1 + 2 boooks is REALLY a retarded reason to purchase this thing.

if the tablet is to be used anything like a computer than, it will have to have flash support. and since the tablet will be running the same iPhone OS or similiar OS to the iPhone, then the iPhone should recieve the same Flash support, no?

Click to flash has changed my life!

I don't see any reason why Apple would want to have flash on this thing... at all. They want all media to be bought through the iTunes store. They don't want anyone going to hulu, amazon, or any of the alternatives that use flash. Furthermore, flash absolutely kills the cpu and battery. This is a great article on the whole thing.

I can't wait to look back on this post a year from now and laugh at all those who doubted Apple's i-thingy.

Haven't we all learned by now that Apple never fails when Steve is 100% behind the product!

Steve didn't care about Apple TV.. he wasn't head over heels about AIR.

But the iPod, iPhone, and now the i-thingy ... that's different. I think Apple will knock it out of the park.

Jobs is going to call this guy and ask him to keep quiet next time.

Terry is incredibly powerful and wealthy, maybe even more so than Steve Jobs. I doubt anyone is going to tell anyone to keep quiet, plus, Terry is a very smart man, and he would never give out this information without first knowing that he can.

aiming a little low, aren't we?
let's hope it will be something that really changes our lives and work, not just something to set up schedules to record shows.

that's like going to a boxing match, and just hoping that nobody gets hurt.

Why is it aiming low?
Just because this might not be on your wish list it doesn't mean is not important.
While I do expect many other things from the device, for work and leisure, this is one I would like to have foremost.

Have an open mind man.

You really thought they were porting OS X to ARM? HAHAHA

OS X runs on ARM. Every iPhone and iPod Touch comes with an ARM-native version of OS X.

I'm sure Mac OS X also runs on ARM, though Apple has no plans of selling it that way any time soon.

Id be pretty upset if this was just a 10" inch kindle/ipod touch, I really hope this is more a hybrid OS, most of my mobile surfing can be done on my iphone.

Im not too worried cause im looking forward to running OSX on my netbook.

I really don't think they have worked on it this long to make a bigger Ipod touch, however I do think that iphone 4.0 OS is gonna be pretty powerful and most likely finally include flash. Also I have been upset with the speed of 3g on the iphone, the tablet on 3g will be too slow if you have to download books, magazines on the go.

No flash? Personally, I don't think I will be happy with the tablet without flash (I may still buy it though). I guess we have to wait and see.

I love how before the iPod was released everyone was like "An MP3 player?... what the? I already have a rio..." and then before the iPhone was released "a phone? what the? I already have a Palm Treo that can do videos and music and apps..." lol

I'm having Déjà vu.

thats true loll... I remember how people was saying that the iPod Touch didn't have much sense with the iPhone already in the market Ha! both are selling great! in fact I think this gadgets are the heart of the company right now.

folks,

i dont get all this whining.

Mac OS X is Darwin plus Cocoa.
IPhone OS is Darwin plus Cocoa Touch.

Get it?

The underlying system can run on about any hardware thanks to the mach kernel. The frameworks on top are made in such way, that apple can decide to omit them (apple time capsule) or use em with a GUI (apple TV) in a tailored fashion (Ipod/Iphone) or fully fledged (Mac).

So even if it runs IPhone OS, ist so easy to start an Xwindow client and make a connect to a remote X server (on any Mac).

So please, please please stop whining you don't want IPhone OS because then you should stick with a Windows tablet, which does not contain any Mac OS Basic System ( Darwin) except the BSD network stack.

thank you. That's a sane explanation.

iPhone OS = NO BUY.

I saw the video. The apple tablet will have some sort of iphone os but the not same as the iphone. We won't know for sure till tomorrow. I think he meant to say that the e-books available in the iphone app store can be transferred onto the apple tablet, since it may be a hybrid os like snow leopard plus iphone 4.0 perhaps.

you are right, this man is no virgin and used to do big business signing tons of non-disclosure terms, it was all in the plan

in my company we "use" computers every hour, every day, all year --> without flash.
it is not missed in the slightest

and now even youtube is moving to html5

Not a "controlled leak"

He had the information and couldn't resist being the bearer of the news, so he took the opportunity. I bet he scheduled the interview with that in mind. He offered more information than she was looking for, or expecting. This was his way of showing that he has power, knowing something that we don't and wanted to beat Apple to the punch. He knows darn well what it means to Apple (or any other company) to announce a new product or major initiative. How would he like it if the same was done to him and his company. What a petty jerk.

What about when the thing dies to after a while, the battery life. Do I have to run out and buy a new one, and then what about all my texts and things on there? Are they in some sort of cloud, or just connected to my "apple account"
.

maybe you should just wait and see what is announced, and then wait and see what the reviews and user reports say, base you buying decision on these facts.
no need to fret the night before the announcement :)

We all just need to wait. When has Apple stuffed up a new product. Look at iPod's and iPhone's, they are really popular and really good devices, and I'm sure lots of people thought they wouldn't be. Apple has spent around 10 years with this, I'm sure they wouldn't end up making it bad. And even if it runs iPhone OS X, it could be a heavily modified version or something, making it not that much like the iPhone.

One Wish.

My wish for tomorrows keynote is to see a healthy Steve Jobs walk out on that stage.

Then everything else wonderful can follow.
