I'm really interested to see if anyone has tested this with an HDMI equipped receiver and got it to work. If so, can you tell us what sound modes you tested (DD/AC3, DTS, 5.1/7.1)?

that's your video? I really like it. I subscribed to you after I watched that video a few posts ago.

haha yea that's me :) trying to get a new channel going. Thank you though for subscribing, I really appreciate that!

Anyone with an eBay-link to a proven product?

All I can see is stuff that supports mini displayport 1.1a.
Am I confusing this with VESA 1.2?

When I checked earlier this week there were several listings on eBay for the Griffin adapter, now I can't seem to find a single auction for it. It's not on Amazon either. I wish I'd ordered one earlier. :(

Confirmed that Monoprice doesn't have HDMI audio compliant versions (VESA 1.2) yet. There is one product that does currently support it but it probably isn't worth the cost to ship back the adapter I bought at this point

TS - Jonathan A (Level 2): My name is Jonathan. How may I assist you?
you: Hi I picked up the #5311 Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter and i see NOW that it doesn't support the new Mac Book Pros that were released last week. When will MonoPrice be supplying an adapter/cable that will support them and can I drop this back in the mail and get one? It may cost me more (Canada) to do this so maybe just order the next cable when it comes? What do you advise?
you: I plan on picking up some long HDMI cables for a projector later in the year so perhaps I'll bundle a future Mac compatible cable with those at that time
TS - Jonathan A (Level 2): Well yeah the delay was due to us trying to get ahold of a 2010 Macbook to test it on and then confirmed that it did not :\
TS - Jonathan A (Level 2): http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10428&cs_id=1042802&p_id=5969&seq=1&format=2
TS - Jonathan A (Level 2): All we currently stock that supports both audio and video
you: Wel I guess I can still hook up the speakers directly to the Mac for now but not as elegant of a solution
you: what's the link above.... opening
TS - Jonathan A (Level 2): Correct and yeah wouldnt be ideal
TS - Jonathan A (Level 2): sorry about that
TS - Jonathan A (Level 2): A product that will do what you need :)
TS - Jonathan A (Level 2): 5969
you: well i guess it costs too much to send back in the mail at this point. I'll just be glad to get the video working to my new Dell U2410 that supports HDMI, DVI, VGA, and DisplayPort... I was hoping for the audio and video in one fell swoop.
you: Thanks anyway.
TS - Jonathan A (Level 2): No problem and again, my apologies :\
you: Does that 5969 support audio and video?
TS - Jonathan A (Level 2): Is there anything else I can help you with today?
TS - Jonathan A (Level 2): Sure does!
TS - Jonathan A (Level 2): along with an HDMI cable that is]
you: maybe you can email out the customers that bought this adapter and let them know when there is a single adapter that can do it as I was expecting You have my email address after all.
you: Nope that's it. Thanks.
TS - Jonathan A (Level 2): Thank you for shopping at www.monoprice.com. Have a nice day.

According to MacWorld, the cheapo Monoprice one won't send audio.

Another new feature, common to the entire MacBook Pro line, is the ability for the Mini DisplayPort connection to output multichannel audio in addition to the video signal it has always carried (the MacBook Pro supports mirroring or extending your desktop on an external display up to 2560 by 1600 pixels, but the adapters needed are all optional accessories). To test it out, I purchased the $9 Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter from Monoprice. I then connected the MacBook Pro to my HDTV using the HDMI cable and input that I usually use for my Blu-ray player. Although it worked for video (letting me play beautiful 720p video without problem) the audio didn’t play through my TV, instead coming out of the MacBook Pro’s built-in speakers. I asked Apple about it and the company recommends higher-quality cables such as the $40 Griffin Video Display Converter available on the Apple Store, saying that some lower-priced cables don’t work (Monoprice has since updated the product page to say “This product does NOT support audio for the 2010 MacBook that outputs audio through the Mini DisplayPort.”)

I can't find the Griffin adapter anywhere. I just finally ordered my 13" MBP and it should be here next week. I guess I'll be waiting a while to test out the mini DisplayPort.

Can someone please check if they work with surround output like my 4890 under windows? Would be incredible, considering the only way to get real surround from OS X over optical is through Plex with transcoding (everything else is just passthrough, and not in realtime, which would be necessary for surround in games under OS X).

can this thread also include DP -> HDMI/DVI for the iMacs?

i bought one off ebay - it doesnt work even after doing the software update that is available. quite frustrated at my $3 purchase

I have tried this and it does not work. When I emailed customer support, I was told, "I apologize for the inconvenience, but our cables are 1.1 VESA compliant and do not support audio. You need a 1.2 VESA compliant cable in order to pass audio. We currently do not carry any 1.2 VESA compliant cables. Thank you."

This Adapter integrates Mini DisplayPort video signal and audio signal from USB port into HDMI output. It solves the problem that Mini DisplayPort of MacBook can only transmit video signal but no audio.

dr. bott not working

hi all

just bought this one because its said to be compatible:

http://www.drbott.net/product/9180-MDHK/

Audio output supported via the mini DisplayPort on Macbook Pro laptops released in April 2010.

audio doesn't work!

I have only the internal speakers under the sound configuraiton.

cheers

You have a new MBP and you have set this up correctly? Others are saying that unit works, the specifications seem correct and their own web page says it works.

Hi

Yes, 2.66 corei7 received last friday.

I suppose so: plugged in the adapter and a hdmi cable. Video output worked. I went to the audio ouput settings but my tv was not listed there, only internal speakers.

I did not try to reboot the machine.

anyone found a solution for EU? I cannot seem to find a shop which ships to denmark.

I don't understand why they're all happy with the adapters (male to female) when we could have a single MALE to MALE cable, if only the companies would produce it.

What's the advantage of an adapter over a single cable? Obviously you won't use the HDMI male to male cable for any other purpose than connecting the MBP so it doesnt make sense to produce adapters instead of cables.

Am I wrong?

One adapter allows any length of cable to be used. Your suggestion would limit the distance from the monitor/tv or require various different lengths to be produced.

Well, if you need to change the distance from the monitor/tv (and that doesn't happen often I guess) you still have to buy another HDMI cable. From the consumer pov we still have to buy a new cable. I don't see any difference.

And producing differents lenghts doesn't seem to me that hard. Of course a HDMI cable is much cheaper than the MDP-HDMI, but thatll mean more business no? In fact monoprice and some others did that with the old mdp standard.

It's a relatively small market and to try and guess how many of each length would need to be produced would be silly. I cannot see one good reason for doing this the way you suggest from a business point of view. Just producing the adapter seems the sensible thing to do.
