There's a lot of really bizarre posts in this thread! 1) It's been known since MobileMe was announced that existing .Mac users can keep their @mac.com addresses as well as new @me.com
2) Like it or not, there is negative feeling about branding. I don't work for Apple, and while I use Macs, I don't particularly want to advertise the fact. I massively prefer the whole Me branding - very clever on Apple's part, with the Web 2.0 ideas of personalisation, and appealing to the whole MySpace/Facebook generation who, like it or not, are the emerging market.
3) The real question is whether Apple will allow users to use their own domain names with MobileMe so that we can send from ouremail@ourdomain.com while taking advantage of the integrated MobileMe service. Given that you couldn't with .Mac, I suppose this is unlikely. That's annoying (but I'll still be converting my trial .Mac to a full MobileMe account anyway - especially as the price seems to have dropped by £10!)

setting up Mail for .me

Hello,

I tried to setup a me.com account in mail

for incoming mail I used mail.mobileme.com and it worked for an hour or so

for outgoing mail I wasn't successful

Now, the account doesn't work in Mail

any other comments ? on setting up Mail with a new me account

No. Old price £69, MobileMe price £59. Just like with the iPhone, UK users are finally getting better deals.:D

They must finally be taking the $ rate into account.
I guess your renewal will be at the new price.

I am not sure the .me mail servers are working fully yet, but you can send emails to .me accounts and they appear in your .Mac accounts.

Like I said it did work for a little period last night (EDT)
and the @me.com messages got into the .me account
and the .mac message in my .mac account

I understand that the .mac account will disappear to the benefit of the .me account

So anyway, I configured the .me account and I'll see when it becomes active

Maybe a new version of Mail will be issued and needed

Using another domain name email with me.com

I agree with your points above.

As far as point 3, go to your dotmac Mail preferences. You can designate an external POP account from the Other tab and have dotmac (and mobile me) read mail from this account.

How many executives

How many executives does it take to change a mac to a me?
The same as it takes to change a lightbulb...
Just one - Cost for change - $1,40065.00

Quote from Steve Jobs about mac to me transition... "This time, I think we got it right"

LET'S ALL HOPE SO!!!

IMAP v POP

I have an IMAP and a POP address on mac.com.

For what it's worth, a post to the IMAP name as me.com worked, but one to the POP name did not (5.1.1 unknown or illegal alias).

Sorry bu this is such a little teenage girl thing, buffy@me.com what grown man in his right mind would hand out a business card with this address.

This me.com thing is fine if you are 13 or 15 years old but come on for a grown man?

Apple could sell you guys just about anything and 90% of you would run out and buy it! Steve Jobs must laugh like a mental patient when he reads the numbers regarding how much crap they have sold lately.
