LOL! And you know this how?

And for the rest of your post, Apple have been a company which has always prided themselves in bringing the latest technologies to the industry, and with the high premium prices of their products, that's what you'd think they'd do. But instead, make minor adjustments thinking people will still buy their products (which they do).

My question to you is, why is this concept soo difficult to understand?

Finally. So the rumors for iPad 3 can start, like we all want! :)

But seriously, we all know what's coming right? Front-facing camera, better sound system, and probably an SD slot. Also a version with Verizon 3G built into it. I'm sure there'll be something nobody expects, and if it's good enough, maybe I'll end up buying one. Not planning on it as of today though. :apple:

no SD slot. Apple doesn't like giving users options other than a single port which you must buy their $30+ dongles to do more things with their iStuff. It also won't have "Verizon 3G" yet a universal qualcomm chip.

True, but even then what makes you soo sure the next iPad will have a cortex a9 chip which would make it have similar speeds to that of the play book?

I think you'll soon realize that Apple is not a bunch of idiots. They know what's coming down the pipeline, and will make their product more than competitive. I wouldn't worry about that. Also, just because people want a retina display, and because it is technically feasible, does not mean that it it yet fiscally possible in terms of hitting price points. I have not heard of any tablet due to be released in the next few months that will have a display nearing "retina" resolution. Have you? People need to be realistic (a rarity around here)

Because it's not out in case you didn't know.

Yes, all the copy cats are mentioned in the various threads and that they are not out yet.

I only know the disparity in speed between the two devices because I saw it with my own eyes on YouTube. Marketing campaign by blackberry. Worth a look.

Not really, as I never buy the first gen of anything and don't go hunting for the latest specs.. That's just me though:)

I buy backwards for 3rd of the price on ebay!

Does this imply that we still have the same 6 models or do you mean 16GB wifi with no 3g option, 32GB with both wifi and wifi+3g and 64GB only 3G?

I wouldn't be surprised to see them reduce the number of models down to 4. Excluding color choices the number of iPad models (6) is equal to the total number of ipods [touch (3), nano (2) and clips (1)] and MBPs. If apple cuts down the numbers of Macbook Pros models I think they'll do the same with iPads.

A low cost 16GB model with wifi only is a great entry level and lets them beat Android on price. The 32GB I think they'll keep both since the 3G sold better and the wifi is needed for uniform pricing. The 64 GB would be 3G only but like the 32 GB 3G at a reduced price.

16GB $499, 32 GB wifi $599 3G $699 and 64 GB 3G $799.

I imagine this is going to be an iOS 5 preview, with iPad 2 introduced as well.

No way is iPad 2 a significant enough update to have an event entirely and exclusively to itself. Not even close.

Wow... And I thought the guys at RIM would show us how the iPad was superior? I see what they showed.... and the Playbook looks really nice... but again... iPad 1.0 is out there... Playbook 1.0 is vaporware.

So, the iPhone4 was a minor adjustment? Bringing us the Retnia display just throw back technology? iPad 1.0 just junk?

So yes... I do have difficulty with this concept.

Wishlist:

1. Revamped OS
2. Retina Display
3. Cameras
4. SD slot or USB
5. New design

It's going to take a serious upgrade for me to toss my current iPad to the side.

I hit the productive wall today with my iPad. I think it's a great device, but it's time to replace it with a Macbook Air 11.6" refurb. It's been fun.

Already been offered within $100 of what I paid for it last June. What is that...like ten buck a month to "rent" it?

Why ever wait? ;)

So just to be clear, your opinion is based on seeing a marketing video for an unreleased product, and comparing that in your mind to another unreleased product that doesn't even have public specs.

OK then.

Does apple normally announce upgraded products and then mark their availability date in the future? This being on products that they already sell, not first gen products (i.e iPad1, iphone 1st gen)

I really can't see them announcing the iPad2, and then saying, "but you cant have it for another 2-3weeks..." No one in their right mind would buy an iPad1 if that was the case.

Seems like whoever is waiting for an iPad2, will have one in their hands a day or two after they announce it.

my prediction:

cortex A9 or Apple A5 dual-core 1.2ghz
1gb of ram
dual SGX543 gpu
thinner,
lighter prolly like 1lb-1.25 lbs
front facing camera slightly higher res than ipod touch, and photobooth app
back facing camera 1MP
Gyrometer
Same resolution
launch with ios 4.3, ios 5 will not be previewed.
flat back, tapered edges
atleast one new port ie. sd, usb, lightpeak,
redesigned speaker
anti-reflective coating on the screen.
same battery life

16gb wifi:$499 32gb wifi:$599 64gb wifi:$699

3G version available on at&t and verizon(it will have dual-mode cdma/gsm)
16gb+3G: $599 32gb+3G:$699 64gb+3G:$799

also you can now get a data plan contract with each carrier, which will result in a subsidized price in the 3G version.

Edit: I believe this is exactly correct. I am willing to bet on it. anybody want to challenge me. Or question any of the above items

I went through ups and downs with my iPad. I would either be addicted to it, or put it in it's dock for weeks. Currently, I use it a lot, especially around the house and before going to bed. It's great to browse the web on, to travel with, and to read books.

I think I will always have an iPad, it's just a matter of when I want to upgrade. I don't see this device as something I'll upgrade yearly like my iPhone, but maybe every two years. So we'll see what Apple delivers!

Lol the playbook is far from vaporware (however much you would like to think it) it's coming out soon. At least you've accepted I wasn't trash talking when I said I saw what it's capable of.

iPhone 4 - yes, it was a significant improvement. However, how many versions and years did it take? I mean, 3G to 3GS was pathetic, you can't tell me that was ever worth an upgrade. Again, the folks at apple knowing people will still swarm all over a new product with the minimalist of adjustments - heck, they could release the iphone in a different colour in their yearly cycle with no updated specs and would still sell like mad.

Just give me better resolution otherwise I'll pass on this one.

I too would love to see more resolution... but, did the iPhone4 spoil us? I know I went back and did an analysis of current iPad and the resolution is right up there with laptops and other announced competitors (ones that have released spec's). The Xoom touts about 20 more PPI than the current iPad... so again... are we just spoiled?

I mean, 3G to 3GS was pathetic, you can't tell me that was ever worth an upgrade.

Let's see:

upgraded RAM
upgraded processor
upgraded GPU
oleophobic coating
improved camera with video recording
better battery
magnetometer
voice control/accessibility

Also add to the fact that the insides of the iPhone 3G were NEARLY IDENTICAL to the 1st gen iPhone, and that the 3GS recieved full iOS 4 support. so yeah, it wasnt a pathetic upgrade at all.

Actually... yes... the Playbook is vaporware. It's not release and no release date yet with dates ranging from 2-6 months out. So, until the rubber hits the road, it's vaporware. Sorry. Plus, they are comparing their latest and greatest technology to 1 year old Apple tech. So... big surprise... it's faster at loading web pages. Lets see the same comparison when the iPad2 comes out.

As for the 3G to 3Gs... yes... minor update. Faster processor. Added video with some other changes. But you know what? According to the last data we saw on this site, it's still the number 3 selling smart phone. So, not shabby for 2 year old technology. Must be real garbage.

Sorry... I guess we just don't see your point.

While I think that you are spot on with regards to most of the specs, I have to challenge you on a couple things here.

First: 1GB of ram is not happening. Sorry but you will be proven wrong on that one. It will be 512mb, take it to the bank.

Second: I don't think there will be an additional port, be it USB, SD, lightpeak, whatever...

Everything else looks to be in line with what I expect to see, although I wouldn't be surprised to see different storage options.
