177mm should have no problem with the 42mm. The biggest thing when it comes to fitting a watch is making sure the watch fits lug-to-lug on your wrist without hanging over the sides (hopefully that makes sense). Here's a comparison, they are are actually pretty similar besides width, which is less important than height IMO.

Apple Watch 38mm
Height: 38.6mm
Width: 33.3mm
Depth: 10.5mm

Apple Watch 42mm
Height: 42.0mm
Width: 35.9mm
Depth: 10.5mm

Pebble
Height: 50.8mm
Width: 33.02mm
Depth 10.16mm

Sounds good the Pebble didn't seem too big for my wrist so I shouldn't have any issues with the Apple Watch then.

Same here. I currently have the original Pebble and it's just fine size wise even though I have relatively small wrists. I don't see the 42mm :apple:Watch being a problem either. I think when people see both sizes in person they will be surprised how well the 42mm looks even on smaller wrists.

Amazing. I never thought folks were much fussed about watches these days. An awful lot don't even seem to wear them. I put mine on every couple of days.

I love the build up on this forum to any new Apple release and count down the days, hours and minutes to order time like so many people here do.

However, I'm somewhat surprised at the in depth discussions about 38 vs 42mm, types or colour of wrist bands and wrist sizes. Very anal!

I don't understand how it's anal at all? If you're about to drop at least $349 dollars, you want to be happy with the size, colour, band etc. People are simply discussing the options here.

Yea I'm dropping $650-$700. I want to make sure I get it right LOL

And I'm still so confused. But leaning towards 38mm

I only want a sports band.

Ahhhh cool, awesome :)

I really think I'm going to wind up going 38mm too. It looks like it would probably fit me better. Another added bonus is I can trade bands with my wife (not that I'm into the modern buckle). Lastly I definitely don't like the leather loop.

I could probably pull off the 42mm, but I have pretty much set myself on the 38mm as I would prefer to start smaller and "see" if I could get a bigger one.

Pricing is also an issue too. I set aside $350 for this watch, and I would prefer to stay as close to that as possible for now. I try to spend as little as possible on v. 1, once version 2 rolls around and all the bugs are smoothed out, as it always is with Apple Products, I might be inclined to spend a little more.

You could always pre order both sizes then return the one you don't want.

Yup that's the plan. Actually, the plan is pre-order for in store pickup. If that's not an option, make appointment at store April 10th and pre-order in store.

The Pebble Steel (the watch I'm wearing now) looks to have a 38mm case according to my measurements, not including the band mount lugs.

For my 185mm wrist, I'll be buying the 38mm Apple Watch.

Edit: So according to Pebble's website, the Steel has a 46mm case. I presume then that this includes the band lugs. If so, then I may be able to get away with a 42mm Apple watch (I presume their measurement is without lugs, since the various bands have different mounts - or none at all like for the leather loop).

Hmmm. Maybe 42mm then...

I actually printed them out and laid them over the top of my pebble steel for perspective size both of their depths are almost the same at 10mm vs 10.5mm. The 42mm apple watch lug-to-lug was very close to the pebbles as well.

My wrist is a little smaller than yours and I was surprised to see how small the 38mm felt. Everyone I showed told preferred the 42mm too. IMO, if you don't have a problem pulling off the Pebble, the 42mm will suit you well

Interesting. Thanks.

While I can pull off the pebble, I think the 38mm would still look better on me. I prefer traditional watches to be on the "small" size. 170mm wrist

185mm wrist. Going to go for the 42mm.

I feel like with my wrist size I might be kind of right on the line between a 38mm being too small and a 42mm being too big but I'm going to go for the 42 anyways.

I think either will work fine, it really is a personal preference. I had my mind set of the 38mm for the same reasons you stated. I know it's not the same as actually trying on the real thing, but the 42mm seemed much more tasteful than I was expecting.

Maybe it's the rectangular face that throws me off but the 38mm just seemed a tad smaller than I was hoping for. A 40mm really would've been the sweet spot for me I think. I'll probably order them both then then make an appointment to try them on/cancel one out.

You just brought up a point I hadn't even considered... If my wife and I both have a 38mm we can share bands. Hmmm...

Dammit, this is the hardest decision I've ever had to make with an Apple product. I have an original Pebble, but I honestly feel like it looks bulky and awkward on me. That should be an indication that I should go 38mm, right?

If you check the measurements I posted above you'll see the original pebble is substantially taller than both apple watches. I think quite a few people will be surprised when they see the 38mm in rectangular form on their wrist. While anyone can pull of either watch, it really does look smaller than you'd think on a guys wrist IMO.

I was really torn but after printing them both out in exact sizes I can't bite the bullet on the 38mm, which I thought would be a no brainer originally.

I am kind of torn between the 2 also but one thought in the back of my head is that I don't want this huge device on my wrist that people can't help but notice.

I think discreetness is a big factor in deciding.
