I guess you missed the part where he said "these days". Culture changes and sometimes does dictate what is considered feminine.

That being said I really don't care what size men or women get but what is bothering me is that Apple tries to pretend that the sizes are not made for gender, but then all the most feminine bands are only paired with the 38mm version it sure seems to make a statement.

Neither watch has any one gender in mind. It's not hard to understand. People, all people, vary in size. Apple knows this so they made two different sizes so people, (stressing PEOPLE) can choose what best suits their wrist size. Now having said that, men and women have different preferences. Women, typically, are smaller people than men are. Logically, this would mean that the majority of women customers will be buying the smaller watch, hence the "feminine bands" you speak of that optionally go with the smaller watch. Any gender label you apply to these inanimate objects are purely based on your social bias.

It seems like common sense, but it appears a lot of people are having a hard time with this.

Am I wrong? or is that just something everyone "thinks" will happen b.c the watch is larger. Do they not have identical internals, battery and all?

In the fine print on the Apple website it says that the estimated run times for the Watch are for the 38mm version, and the 42mm version has "slightly" longer run times.

http://www.apple.com/watch/battery.html

Apple Watch battery performance claims are based on test results from the 38mm Apple Watch. A 42mm Apple Watch typically experiences longer battery life.

Amazing. I never thought folks were much fussed about watches these days. An awful lot don't even seem to wear them. I put mine on every couple of days.

I love the build up on this forum to any new Apple release and count down the days, hours and minutes to order time like so many people here do.

However, I'm somewhat surprised at the in depth discussions about 38 vs 42mm, types or colour of wrist bands and wrist sizes. Very anal!

So you went to a product rumor website and clicked on a forum topic that was created for the sole purpose of discussion.. and you're surprised that people are discussing the topic in the discussion thread about said topic? lol

I have 165mm wrists. The obvious choice I think is the 38mm but I also wear an original pebble almost everyday. Looking at the measurements of the pebble and cutouts, I begin to think the 42mm would be good too. What do you guys/gals think?

I also have 165mm wrists. I've worn my 42mm citizen nighthawk without issue, a pebble steel and g-shock which are all bigger. So I'm going with the 42mm apple watch.

If I really think it's too big after a week I can return it for the smaller one.

I have similar sized wrists and based on the cutouts I feel like the 38 makes my wrist look smaller for some reason. I didn't really like it so I am going for a 42.

Hi guys. My wrist is 175mm, here's both the printouts. What do people think?

Personally I want to like the 42mm because I think the larger screen will simply be easier to use and see when out and about, but I think the 38mm is probably a better fit. Again, I worry the screen is just a bit too small though.

I also think they look a bit bigger in the photos - the 42mm doesn't look quite as big in real life I don't think as it does in the photos, but I'm clearly overthinking this so who the hell knows!

In terms of my personal preferences to watches, I'm definitely of the 'small understated' type - I've never gone for the big watches. However, I'm open to changing my opinion/expectations for smartwatches as clearly a larger screen is more useful.

Are you sure those printouts are the right size? I have a 180mm wrist and the cutouts I have made look a lot smaller on me

based on the photos the 38mm looks better, but I know the 42 would look fine in person on you. I have 177mm wrist, which is nearly the same as you, and I do not think the 42mm looks as big as these photos suggest.

How is your vision? If you have 20/20 you will have no problem at all reading the 38mm. I have a pebble, and the screen is smaller than both the 38 and 42 apple watch. It is easy to read.

edit: Actually, do you have something under the printout so it sits up? If so, that is the reason it looks larger, and more accurate than what most people post. Most are posting a piece of paper that is flush with the skin.

I think people are going to be surprised how small the 42mm will be in person. A great way to judge the sizes of the Apple watch is to go to the Apple Store app on your phone, bring up the actual case sizes then lay your current watch on top of your screen. The body of my Casio g-shock g-5600kg is actually bigger then the 42mm Apple watch and I thought my g-shock was a pretty small watch. I have 165mm wrists btw.

I very much agree with this. Especially for people who already own smart watches. The pebble steel feels small compared to the competition and the 42mm is even smaller than that!

Bestbuy has quite a few watches on display. I would suggest going there and trying the displays on. They may even have a steel.

I also think people are going to be surprised by the Width. That is the most shocking difference between the 38mm and 42mm. I can deal with the height of the 42mm, but the width makes it look massive on my 177mm.

As someone who is very fashion forward, the 38mm has a greater appeal. If I bought the 42mm, I would probably only use the sport band b.c I personally think it is too large to "dress up." If I bought the 38mm, I would have various bands b.c it looks better from a fashion standpoint IMO.

Yep, two layers of cardboard!

Just measured my wrist and I'm at 177cm, im having a very hard time choosing if I should go with the 38mm or 42mm. I want the bigger screen but I don't want it to feel awkward. I've hdd the moto 360 before which felt fine.

I guess I have no choice but to go with the 38mm since I have small wrists. What do you guys think?

I'm sorry to ask again, but...are you sure that printout is accurate? I too have 175mm wrists and the 42mm looked MUCH smaller. What you have there almost looks like 42mm left to right rather than top to bottom (and I also placed cardboard behind the watch face).

If you're absolutely sure, then I'm rethinking. The 38mm printout I had on my wrist looked like a baby's watch. 42mm became the no brainer. But now...?

Yup, definitely sure. I stuck two layers of cardboard behind the printout which may make it look bigger?

if that's the 38 mm cutout it looks good on you. You could possibly get away with a larger watch depending on which band and watch combo you choose. But this one is a good fit on you and I personally would not go larger than what you've shown.

I'm beginning to think that as a tiny female I'm doomed to look incredibly dwarfed by this watch. Everyone else looks great though. I'm definitely no Christy Turlington.

38mm for me. I need something subtle sleek for my purposes of the watch, & I have fairly small wrists.

I dont think the sizing should really have anything to do with gender.... i'm going with the 38 because i have normal sized wrists and the 42 would look stupid on me

I thought i had made my mind up no the 38mm as i have an average size wrist(178mm) and want something i can wear everyday without getting in the way, but i keep coming across images that look good and turn out to be the 42mm but there is 1 picture i found that i'm not sure of its size and its exactly the size im looking for! can anyone tell what size this is?

obviously it completely depends on the wrist size the watch is on as well....
