[Merged] Apple's free case / bumper peace offering -- discussion

Are you happy with Apple's decision to give out free Bumper case?

The phone works for everything else better than any other phone on the market: appearance, nice camera with HD movie editing, apps, games, movies, musics, podcasts, tv shows etc. No other phone matches it. But when I hold it wrong data transfer over the network goes to zero?

I'm not complaining that the iPhone sucks and I am definitely not going to return it, I just wished there was an answer for the fact that it becomes completely useless as a phone when held. I made an appointment Sunday ahead of the conference in case there was some mad dash to the stores, but I will be using it to see if I can exchange it for a phone that works because it seems that there is a such thing as a working iP4.
 
I bought an iFrogz Luxe case. While for the most part I really like it, I hate the raised circle on the back. I'll wait and see what is offered and make my decision then.
 
If you bought it from Apple you should be good. They'll have a record of the transaction in their system. When I bought mine, they asked for my email and was able to pull up all my info.
 
I don't know about you guys, but I was raised to accept gifts with gratitude.

In fact it was considered rude to not accept a gift.
 
I just asked. We will automatically get an email that we're being refunded (at least if you bought it online - not sure about store buys). Expect it soon I was told and then refunds take 3-5 days to process, but they figured it would be sooner.

If you ordered online, you do not need to call.
 
This is the problem I see:

Apple has said that they will give everyone that wants a free case, the option to pick from a selection on their site. They've said that wont happen until the end of next week.

Even if they can get it up and running (and I doubt they will for the UK) by then, the case wont arrive until the week after that (at best).

By that time the return period will have ended for me and anyone else who bought the iPhone 4 in the first few weeks.

Apple's second offer:

i.e. "return the phone if the case doesn't work for you", is therefore flawed.
 
How to claim free case?

Sorry if this has been posted already, I tried to mroogle it and didn't come up with anything that seemed to match.

I didn't catch on any of the transcripts if it was stated how the "free case" claim process would work or when it would be available/start. Anyone catch anything I missed on that front?
 
Steve said in the Q&A that you would be able to get the free case starting late next week. So far, no other details have been released.

Can we go and get a refund in store or is the only option waiting for the email?
 
Apple just told me that they are going to automatically credit a refund for a bumper that was ordered online. So you may not have a choice, you may be getting an email soon they said about that. The actual refund processing time usually takes 3-5 days but they anticipated it going through quicker than that.

They said you do not have to call, they are going to process these themselves. That was a bit of a surprise. Not sure how store purchases will be handled.
 
i've been wanting a blue one, once Steve Jobs made the announcment I placed my order for it knowing I'll end up getting free. Ciao!

They said most of this can be done on the web, so I expect something going up online very soon.
 
Just wind a thick rubber band around it and it'll do the trick a bumper would. Then not request a refund, send the additional 29.00, plus the bumper to sell so Apple can make a total of 84.00 (29.00x3-3.00 wholesale cost) and both parties are happy. I'd do it, but sadly donated my money to Relay for Life...if only I had known there was a more deserving cause in desperate need, Apple, my priorities would have been different. Darn.

Oh edit... Subtract 2.00, not 3 since the 29.00 cash is free and clear.

Good thing I did order when I did. Online sales and Shipping is no longer available online.
