I'm not on their side. Steve went up there and spread a bunch of bs to appease the stupiest of Apple customers. Taking the money will make Apple less likely to male the decision "We knew that there was an issue, but we decided to ship it anyway."

I'm not here to complain about the issue, but the fact is.. it is an issue. And yes, Apple should compensate for the problem. It doesn't matter what product it is or the cost... but let's take a car for instance. You buy one, yet if you press the accelerator to a certain point, it just cuts out on you. You cannot tell me that you wouldn't want the company/person you bought it from to compensate you on that UNLESS that was something the company/person mentioned right up front when you bought it.

It's one thing to support Apple, but you can't really expect people to not think they deserve some "fix" for their phone possibly losing connectivity.

Lastly, there is no need to call people names simply because they don't support your cause here. If you wish to not receive the refund, great! Awesome. But don't expect people are going to feel the same way when dishing out up to $300 for a phone and find out they can lose calls if they hold the phone wrong.

Well, good to know my question was answered to us "lost my receipt" folks.

My only question now is if us current bumper owners can get store credit AND still sign up for a free bumper?

I'm thinking of getting white this time for the ice cream sandwich look, but could also settle for another black one as a spare.

I would take one, cause I won't look a gift horse in the mouth :) but yes I have no issues with my phone and I think people are just trying to exploit things if they can.

I'm happy with the decision. The bumper will be an option along with other cases (otherwise, they wouldn't have pulled the bumpers off the site and then inserted that statement there).

I want a white bumper. I don't like too many of the third party cases that I've seen.

What I find most interesting is that the free case offer ends on Sept. 30:

"...as long as you purchased the phone before September 30th."

What happens after that? Is that when they will have actually fixed the iP4 with a real solution? I'm waiting until Oct. 1 then for my white iP4. :p

.

I think it's MORE than they should have done.

They had the data. The facts. They are in the clear.

And yet they throw a bone to the rabid iPhone 4 hacks
and arm chair cell phone engineers. I'm impressed.

They should have given out free "GET A LIFE" bumper stickers.

This

Bought a new Ferrari. The sleekest most beautiful car on the planet. All was good until I took my first drive. An irritating whistling noise could be clearly heard. Took it to the dealer who said it was due to the shape of the sheet metal but not to worry. Hyundai Sonata sheet metal can be bolted on and the whistle will go away. Best of all Ferrari will provide it free of charge! Whoopee!!!

Doesn't even make sense. For one it's Apple giving out Apple stuff. Yeah other cases are available but a bumper is an option.

Whoo hoo free case! Mine doesn't drop calls, and I've only been able to reproduce the signal drop by bridging the antenna gap with metal. It's damn nice of Apple to offer free cases.

Same here!

I voted "no" because I generally don't like workarounds. They should offer a solution instead.

OTOH, I am pretty happy with their other decision, which it to refund your iPhone 4 completely until September 30.

Then go refund it.

It was a kind solution, but still should have been treated before, and not taken lightly like the press conference did.

The press conference was what it needed to be. They explained the reasons and problems. They even humbly provided free cases to us.

Edit: Wanted to add an excerpt of what I posted in another thread::

You put something on the internet and people run with it. Gizmodo is pissed because they stole from Apple and Apple didn't let them come to any events. SO they death grip an iPhone and post it online and people start to death grip it as well and go OMGZ MY IFONE IS BRUKEN!!

If you are really having so many issues then return it. I wouldn't drive a Chrysler product because they are sh** but I don't bi*** about it on the internet I just don't buy it.

Just don't buy Apple if you don't like them and buy something else. Return the iPhone. Oh wait, you won't because all of you guys secretly love it to death and don't want any other phone so you come online to bi*** while secretly giving fallacio to the tip of your iPhone 4.

My free one arrived today. Ordered on June 25 via Apple Care.

Also bought one and looking forward to the refund.

Apple rocks. Best part is, I have to try real hard to replicate the problem. I have better reception at home and work.

Thank God Steve stood up for what's right. And along those lines, I am perfectly happy with my iPhone 4 and the Bumper I bought on Day 1 and don't want Apple's money at all. I wasn't raised to take money I don't deserve. In fact, I'd like them to charge me an additional $29.00 to offset someone else's free case if that's what it takes as a gesture to show Apple how happy we are with what they do for us.

Look what we're doing to Apple. We can't let this happen.

I actually agree with this guy..not cause Im an apple fan or anything.

The MEDIA is making this a huge issue.. it really isnt.. The media doesn't like the fact that a huge company is making huge profits... what ever it takes to tear em down.

I personaly believe APPLE makes great products. That is all. And I support any company that does. They wouldnt even have had this whole conference if the MEDIA didnt make such a huge deal about it.

I havent had any problems.

I mean Ill take a bumper.. but I dont need it for reception.. just protection

Yeah, but only because I can get my MONEY back!

I like the look of the bumper. The other day, a cute girl sitting next to me outside the Apple Store asked me about my phone and went "wow" with the look. She wanted a bumper, but they ran out. So based off aesthetics while still showing off MOST of its naked beauty, I like it. Provides a lip and grip.

With all that said, it isn't worth $30. Half price would be reasonable. That's why if I can get my $$ back, I will gladly take it back while still being happy with my current bumper and problem-free iPhone 4!

Apple has said they will reconsider their position by that date.

Who knows what that could mean. It might mean they need to extend the offer, they might have found a hardware or software fix (remote possibility) or they might feel that the offer is no longer needed.

"look at what we're doing to Apple, we can't let this happen"
You mean giving Apple $700 a phone that Apple knew was faulty?
Sorry I don't feel sorry for them.

The iPhone 4 is not faulty. Saying that the iPhone 4 is faulty is like saying that a satellite dish is faulty if you put a tree in front of it blocking the line of sight. Or like saying that your wireless router is faulty if you put a microwave oven next to it and turn it on.

Get over it and make an effort to not to touch the very specific sections of the antenna. It's not that ****ing hard.

So what you are saying is that your iPhone works perfect without the bumper you bought? Like you can touch the black band and nothing happens? If that's the case then I want my money back for my phone cause mine loses signal when I do that and if one doesn't then all of them shouldn't and if you need the bumper to fix your signal and you don't want to get a refund for the bumper you bought then you are foolish and must have more money than you have sense!

have you even SEEN a bumper? Its molded plastic, ringed in rubber, perfectly cut to the phone, with out a doubt the MOST ACCURATE cuts I have ever seen on a case, and I've bought a lot

And to top it all off, real stainless steel buttons on the case itself cover the sleep/wake and volume rockers

worth $30? maybe not
Cheap? Definitely not.
It has the best build and design of any case I've seen

I agree with dcc.....they are very well made and fit perfectly. Now when I take off my bumper and play with my phone, it feels weird.

Most iPhone users already put a case on their phone. Most car drivers do not put a protective piece of sheet metal on their car.

Somehow I seriously doubt that the choice of cases will be from the top manufacturers. My guess would be that they will outsource it to the guy in China who makes the $1 silicon cases that sells on eBay! They come in several different varieties and colors.

What if I dont have the receipt for my bumper but I want a refund? I hope they thought this all through... I can't imagine everyone who bought a bumper would have Proof of Purchase... Would we just get another case then? This would have made me somewhat happy if I wouldn't have bought a bumper yet...

Or they may make the decision to bundle the bumper in the retail packaging so anyone buying after 9/30 would automatically just get one with the phone. That'd be my guess if there's no hardware/software fix.

Good for you that the Ferrari dealer said that if you really didn't want to try the solution, he'd take the car back no questions asked so you could go buy a Lamborghini!

Are we allowed to deny the refund and get a second bumper instead? I have a white coming in and might like a black one as well.
