I think I'll go pick one up tomorrow at my Apple store before they run out of stock and get a refund at later.

have you even SEEN a bumper? Its molded plastic, ringed in rubber, perfectly cut to the phone, with out a doubt the MOST ACCURATE cuts I have ever seen on a case, and I've bought a lot

And to top it all off, real stainless steel buttons on the case itself cover the sleep/wake and volume rockers

worth $30? maybe not
Cheap? Definitely not.
It has the best build and design of any case I've seen

Wow, good to know! :)

********. It's a complete piece of ill-fitting, wiggling crap. Oh, and I can't use the dock-connector cable in my car as it's not the exact same profile as the new-ish Apple cable. I sent mine back two weeks ago.

Nope, it's not. Did your third party accessory vendor guarantee compatibility with all future iPhones? If so you should contact them for their updated equipment. If not, then what set that expectation for you?

LMAO @ this prick acting like one in this post.

It was an honest question. You don't know me to judge me based off an internet post, kid.

Run along now.

People like you that try to scam the system are why companies don't usually do this kind of thing, or they end up putting up some insane restrictions on the offer. It wasn't an honest question, you were being immature and trying to scam them.

Basically, people like you are why we can't have nice things.

The OP has a good point, why take advantage of a company that's given you every innovation that you've asked for? I'm no expert, but I liked Apple's presentation.

Who's "taking advantage" of who? The bumper costs 1$ to manufacture and they are charging customers a 3000% markup.

I think Apple makes great products and have spent thousands on them over the years, but lets be honest...they charge the abosolute highest price that they can possibly get away with for just about everything they sell. Usually, I would say it's pretty much worth the extra premium, in most cases, if you have the extra money to spend.

I have an iPhone 4. I like it very much. I have had no issues with the antenna problems (even though I can reproduce the bar drop sometimes if I really try). I will still get a free case and feel no guilt whatsover about the 1$ I am "costing" Apple.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A293 Safari/6531.22.7)

I just popped into an AT$T store and some entitled chucklehead came in after me, waving his iPhone in the air, asking if they had "the free cases" yet. People suck.

Just curious regarding whole "Bumper" drama..

I think that is very generous of Apple to offer a free bumper for all iPhone 4 owners even though they are not all experiencing the antenna issue.

However, what about people who just purchased an iPhone 3GS.. will they also receive a free case? After all, it was demonstrated that if you hold the 3GS without a case in a certain manner, that it also drops bars..?

Also, do you think other Blackberry and Android phones will follow to offer free cases since they were demonstrated to lose bars when gripped a certain way as well?

I think it's only fair since all smartphone, one way or another, seem to be dropping bars when held a certain way. Why only free bumpers or cases for the iPhone 4?

It's only offered to the iPhone 4 because it has the most media attention and the largest number of people aware of the issue. On the other phones the "death spot" is hidden well enough that most people won't notice or figure it out.

But I noticed and figured it out today on the other phones when it was shown in the keynote. It's also now posted on Apple's website.

Apple always gets scrutinized more than other companies. I remember a recent Sony Ericsson smartphone launch in Europe with a real hardware issue. And the Evo 4G's loose screen problem. Neither company gave a press conference with hard facts and evidence like Apple's today.

Also, there are always more threads with this title "I have a problem with ____" than threads with this title "My Apple ____ is working perfectly". People only speak up when they have problems. They won't call Apple Care or post on forums to say that their product works perfectly.

I'm going to take the free case offer because Apple offered. I've always recommended their products and I don't think I'm stealing from them if they offered.

FYI : You guys should really buy a bumper from the Apple B&M Store NOW!!!

Once the free program starts up, Apple will have millions of requests for bumpers, vastly outweighing supplies. Plus you can rest assured they are going to stop bumper shipments to stores in order to stock inventory for the massive hits they will get next week. So if you are smart, buy a bumper now and get a refund next week.

They are NOT giving out bumpers. They are having a third party manufacture cases.

Good advice but I bet they are sold out already. Its been four hours...

The date that you purchased the bumper will be visible on the receipt so surely the employee will see that you purchased it after Apple announced the refund and they will stop you from getting a refund later?

What if you're in my situation, where you don't yet have an iPhone, only the bumper?

Yes they are. Check the site. They're refunding people who bought bumpers (which means you can buy one now and get refunded). Though you're right as in if people wait for the free case program to start, Apple may only offer the other cases and stop the refunding of bumpers.

Buy your iPhone by sept 30th and you're set for a free case. As for the refund on the bumper, I'm sure they'll just want the receipt of the bumper and not proof that you have an iPhone.
