Wrong. Apple will refund everybody that bought a bumper, the free bumper will run until September 30.
I doubt it. Then people can buy the bumper, get a refund and then just sell it since they don't need it. Apple would want proof that you are buying it for your iphone, right? maybe,,,

Do what I am doing (I also have the bumper but iPhone is on order), wait until next week and fill out whatever form they have on apple.com If they want proof of your iphone order, put in your order number. If they don't care about you having an iphone, then you're good to go. Probably.
If that's the case, any John Doe could walk in and buy a bumper then get a refund off for it and sell it on eBay for $5 - $20.
Then he could walk back in and buy another bumper and get another refund. Or a current iPhone 4 owner could keep going back to get more bumpers/cases for free with the refund. This is hypothetical if proof of iP4 ownership is not required.

I think if you buy your iPhone before September 30 you're eligible for the refund on your bumper.

I just wondered if Apple will be offering us a choice of any colour in thier current lineup or will they just give us all a black one free, in the hope we purchase other colours!?
I would guess that after the 30th they may just bundle a black one in all boxes, unless they actually gave you a choice whilst ordering depending on stock.

I bought a bumper on launch day when I got my phone and I sold it to a very impatient guy a few weeks ago for $40. (I had decided I wanted something that would cover the back, so I picked up a cheap Rocketfish case for $15 at Best Buy).
I still have the receipt from Apple and I'll be getting the refund so I can buy an iSkin when they come out. In short, I made $40.
So even if you're buying it "for your phone", which I was at the time, they have no idea if you're going to sell it for profit and then come back and ask for the refund / free case.
Although I'm not sure what they'll do about bumpers purchased after today.
Fairly certain they would give you black, if any are available. I noticed on the online Apple Store all bumpers are "currently unavailable", meaning there is a freeze on bumpers. I imagine the stores will be all sold out by the end of the day. I imagine bumpers will be scarce through September 30.
I bought a black and green one, and have a white one on order (says it will ship August 5), so I'm set. Will get a refund for one of them, so I get three for the price of two.
You will probably have to enter both your serial codes from both reciept and also your iPhone so that it will be one refund per iphone
i'd like to know how you figure it costs them $1 to manufacture. You do realize that they need to factor in design costs, mold costs, and labor costs that go into making these bumpers right? They aren't just simple rubber bands. You really need to get an understanding of business and how it works. You come across as pretty ignorant
The free bumper case will be pink in color with a $15 shipping and handling fee, for a upgrade price of $18, you can have your choice of color.
IMO Apple will setup the system so each iP4 bought before Sept 30 will get a free bumper. So when you go to the store they will cross reference the receipt for your bumper with the serial number of your iPhone that way each iPhone can only get 1 free bumper.

i have one set for delivery then too! im a bit unsure about whats gonna happen to our order, i would ring apple care but its closed here in the uk. so if anyone can find out what happens to existing orders that havnt shipped, could you let me know?

I've never seen a break down other than forum people speculating on the costs. Care to share?
Will do, just keep monitoring your order status. If it gets cancelled they will send you an e-mail. I believe they will honor all orders already in the system. They are probably making bumpers "unavailable" henceforth to prepare for the free bumper/case onslaught that is forthcoming.

Called the local Apple store to clear up my situation, and the lady on the phone was a total bitch. Completely rude.
But what she basically said was that if you buy one today, you WILL NOT be refunded, and the details of the 'free case program' won't be known until next week.

My guess is you get what's in stock. But all of the bumper colors online have the same 'unavailable' and free bumper info on them, so my guess is you should be able to pick your color.
