Much appreciated. :)

Another question that I can't find an answer to: I'm going to be out of town on the 24th, but want to have the iPhone shipped to my parents' house back in Florida. I've switched my AT&T billing address to their's and the same goes for the address associated with the card I'll be using to pay for the iPhone 4.

Am I set? Plan is to preorder through apple.com, have it delivered to the 'rents' place and activated via iTunes (the question you just answered).

Sounds like you're set!

Question 1:
I'm on a family plan of 4 phones. My iPhone 3GS is not eligible till 2/25/11, but the other 3 phones are eligible for upgrades.

I understand I can use their eligibility to purchase myself a 4G iPhone at the subsidized price, but will I be able to keep my unlimited data plan?

My 3GS is the only phone with a data plan.

Question 2:
During the pre-ordering process through AT&T's website or Apple's website, will there be an option to take advantage of eligible phones on my family plan, but have the 4G activate my phone#, which is not upgrade eligible?

Many Thanks.

1) Yes

2) No...but you misunderstand....all you are doing is ordering...not activating. Review our upgrade guide...you answer is there.

Updated the upgrade guide. Hopefully cleared some stuff up about the upgrade swap.

Any suggestions please let me know.

I've had my 3gs since October. And I'm eligible for an upgrade. Funny how it's only been 8-9 months since I had my phone. I'm on a family plan. I'm the main account holder and there's 3 other lines under me. Am I lucky or what? iPhone 4 here I come. Instead of calling it the iPhone 4. I've been reffering to it as the "i-4" sounds a lot better.

So if you guys could help me out here this would be nice.
Since I am on a family plan I am not eligible for the full subsidized price till 2/2011. So I had 2 scenarios in mind which would be cheaper than paying the early upgrade price.

Start a new line and order the iPhone 4 on that line at the lowest price. Then swap numbers with my current iPhone 3GS, and than cancel my iPhone 3GS line and only pay an ETF of 105.

Start a new line with my own hardware and not sign a 2 year contract, order a iPhone 4 ON that line and then just activate under my iPhone 3GS line and then cancel the new line. The only question here is which line signs the 2 year contract, the one that activates the iPhone or the one that orders it.

Which scenario would work, and what would i have to do on my part.

NO, NO, NO. There is nothing about contracts that end in 2010. The "One Time" upgrade is for iPhone customers that will be Upgrade Eligible from June 7 through Dec. 31, 2010.

If you are going to start a thread and make yet another wild statement, just keep flailing away....:eek:

To let current iPhone customers quickly upgrade to iPhone 4, AT&T will make its best pricing immediately available to any iPhone customer who would be upgrade eligible for a discounted device by the end of 2010.

Dave

So since i sold my iPhone 3GS last month (got it July 7) Im no longer an iPhone customer and im screwed? Upgrade dare is Dec 7 2010.

So im going to be performing an upgrade swap, and I was talking to an AT&T rep on the phone today (about another phone on our account) and I asked him if there was any other way update the IMEI number and all that stuff on launch day, and he told me the link to an AT&T website that you can do it on but I can't remember the link. It was something like www.att.com/upgradephone but I can't remember the exact link. Does anyone know it?

Are any of these viable options?

Well thats lame, im gonna ask around some more theres gotta be somethin. If not then i guess ill drop 399 for it
The same thing happened to me. My iPhone 3G broke and i temporarily went with a crap phone til i got my 3G fixed (which was June 9th). What i found out is that the corporate stores don't seem to look at the record of what phone you had activated and when, just what you have activated now (pretty much they see what you see on the At&t website). Reactivate your account (sim) on another iPhone, and then go to a corporate At&t store whenever you go to preorder/buy the new iPhone. They'll see that you're completely eligible and they should charge you the $199/$299 pricing.

I did the same thing i mentioned and the corporate store said that they would absolutely honor the $199 pricing when i come back to preorder the 4. Only negative is that i can't preorder at the Apple site, but if this follows thru (by the sounds of it, it should) then it should definitely work for you too.

I am not eligible for the full subsidized price till 10/2010, but i want to pay 599$ and get it no commitment at 24th June. It will affect my date of full subsidized price ? I want to get one right now, and one then. Is that possible ?

Wouldn't it make sense for AT&T to allow anyone to upgrade to the iPhone 4, regardless of their current phone, as long as their upgrade date is in 2010? Presumably, those phones would be paid off as fast or faster than an iPhone 3G S and AT&T would be able to lock in more customers for 2 years.

Option 1 seems much better, I have no idea how option 2 would work without signing a contract. I plan on doing option 1 with you also on iDay so it will definitely work.

No commit is no commit. Nothing will affect the upgrade date.

K What would I have to do for option 1. I know that for adding a line to the family plan you cant have it delivered to your home, you have to go into an att store to have it activated. Do we have to phone activated under the new line or the existing iPhone line. Then how do we do the sim card swap thing to change the numbers when the iPhone 3GS uses a SiM and the iPhone 4 uses a micro Sim card?

The help is appreciated.
