Just checking that your desire works seamlessly with your mac?

I think I've found a good deal for one and loved the look and feel of it in the shop just want to make sure it will work ok with my ibook or imac.

It's not as 'seamless' as an iPhone, but it's far from complicated. Getting photos off the phone is done in the same way as iPhone - connect it to PC and import them. Getting them on is more complicated though.

Music is also more complicated, but I use DoubleTwist to sync things up - you just run that application and it syncs all music and playlists from iTunes to the Android phone. I'm sure things will become even easier in future, just waiting for an all in one app that can sync everything.

What I've been doing is plugging it into my mac's usb port and it appears as a disk image in the Finder which i can then drag files between.
I've also been syncing the phone with Google services and it obviously works beautifully. I then have my iCal, Mail and Address Book apps on my mac setup to sync with my Google calendar/mail/contacts, so it all works very much the same way as MobileMe :)

Hi guys,

New to the forum, but a long standing apple user (since beige G3).

Am seriously considering an HTC Desire, as I just don't fancy an iphone.....Don't get me wrong, I love apple and their products....well....most of them!

I just have similar concerns as another poster, scaryt, above:

How well does the phone connect to a Mac (MBP/new imac/G5) I understand I cannot use the native software to sync it, ut can access it via a 'enable hard-disk mode' kind of function....

How does this work with the android apps?

Are they simply a drag and drop install also?

thanks guys and girls.....

Probably next year some time. The growth of android apps is staggering.

Its much easier to publish an app for android since they don't need to have it "blessed" by apple.

It shouldn't be about the amount of apps but the quality of apps. Apple can brag about how they have x amount of apps on the App Store but how many of them are just novelty and junk? a large amount i'd bet

The Problem is with the whole android phone base I fell like if i buy one the phone will be out of date in 2 weeks I mean look at the Nexus one it was praised to be the best Droid then out of now no where the Incredible is shown like almost a lil over a month thats what would drive me nuts if i was a droid owner.

Exactly it mirrors the PC world where if you buy top of the line it's only going to last a quarter before the next "top of the line" model comes out.

With Apple they have total control and so savvy Mac and Apple users know when (generally) Apple updates their hardware and they wait.

When I purchased my 3Gs in Feb I knew a new phone was coming in June but I needed it right there. Now worries because I'll skip the 4th gen iPhone and wait for the 5th gen in 2011.

The positive reaction in this thread is promising. I'm interested in getting an Android device and it looks like the Desire is a good choice. Now, if only HTC will make one compatible with Telecom NZ...

I've got Desire few days ago too. Till now my only complaints are regarding speaker phone and ring volume. When I turn on speaker and try to talk with my wife through it - sound simply sucks and crackles when I rise speaker volume. And another thing - when I put my phone in it's case and put it in my backpack I can barely hear it even in quiet room. This pisses me so much:( What are other users experiences?

Tempted by the desire myself. I found the 4.0 presentation to be underwhelming and was really disappointed that issues such as notifications haven't been addressed. The only thing that's holding me back is the amount of money i've sunk into the app store.

I think thats mainly why Most of the advantages of OS4.0 will be taken by the 4th Gen iPhone and i think you will see alot of the other features will be shown and i think the will be huge.

Desire connecting with mac

First of all, sorry about my english.
I've just bougth an Desire, because I saw how my flash homepage ran on it, fantastic. But then the fun stopped, as soon as I got home and tried to connect it to my mac!! That reminded me of an old promiss, never by anything else than Apple. Because I really don't wan't too spend all that time on getting software to work, it reminds me to much of windows!!!!
Okay, that was a cheap shot, but after too many hours, it works as a modem. But only with a usb cable!!! I don't by an electrical car, that has to be plugged in while i'm driving!
I'm not giving up, I allready paid for it. So if anyone can please make one simple app that makes my Desire an bluetooth modem, full function with mobile mee, sends my music by wifi direct to my airport (I know iphone can't either, but thats stupid too) and makes my coffee.
And send a couple therapist to S.Jobs and adobe, that divorce is hurting the kids.

Thinking about desire.

I wonder if anyone can answer a couple of questions about the HTC Desire. I am looking at it myself and thinking about getting one, over iPhone due to price and the more open nature of Android.

1. I see people are saying it works seamlessly with the Mac, is this true?
i. Does calendar sync work, do you need to download plugins, if so where
from?

2. I am finding a barrage of conflicting information about tethering a
MacBook to an HTC Desire.
i. Is it possible to wirelessly connect (Bluetooth/WiFi) my laptop to an
HTC phone, to use it as a modem?

I currently can do this with out any difficulties on a bog standard Sony
W595, "connect Bluetooth DUN", can you do tis with Android 2.

ii. Do you need to download Apps for this purpose? If so which?

Thinking about HTC Desire?

I am comparing technology, and the iPhone providers are greedy when it comes to tethering an iPhone to a Laptop, they want a Charge! Why, when this is a simple somewhere thing, when you are keeping within your data limits?

This leads me to looking at Android, I wonder if anyone could offer some advice?

thanks guys and gals!

Maybe a better option would be to step on into the year 2010 and jailbreak your iPhone and you can tether your laptop just as I am right now while typing this.

Syncing is easy. Double twist.

Yes you can wireless tether your phone but you need root access. Rooting is easy as hell and there are a lot of quality apps that require root access.

Its much easier to publish an app for android since they don't need to have it "blessed" by apple.

The downside is there is much fragmentation of the Android hardware. Different size screens, resolutions, and OS's (1.5, 1.6, 2.0, 2.1) make it that there is a chance that even if an app is made for Android, it may not support the device you are using.

That said, I would seriously consider a device like the Desire or Incredible if it ever came to at&t. I wish they would get off their butt and offer a decent Android device.

I think the fragmentation argument is a bit over stated, especially since just about all android phones are now 2.1 based. Its an issue, but I don't believe a huge one.

What is root assess? is this problematic?

Also you say tethering is easy, is this available via Android, or you of need an application (there used to be an App called WiFi tether, but market place have pulled in off their servers?

2010 n' all that!

Thanks for being condescending!

There's nothing new about jail-breaking.. I just think back to 1988, and remember using assembler to crack boot sector security on applications! I was young then, and I don't want to be jail-bait and would rather find a more legitimate way to gain access to tethering.

thanks all the same!
