Thanks for being condescending!

There's nothing new about jail-breaking.. I just think back to 1988, and remember using assembler to crack boot sector security on applications! I was young then, and I don't want to be jail-bait and would rather find a more legitimate way to gain access to tethering.

thanks all the same!

I highly doubt you would be put in jail for tethering

Maybe the mods can create a seperate forum for Android people here since they don't understand that they should go to an Android dedicated forum? You are on an iPhone forum asking about what a HTC Desire phone can and can't do. Do you not see an issue with that?

Politically driven?

Not really, given the ridiculous nature of iPhone pricing plans and general control freak/politically driven closed nature of iPhone (particularly wirelesses connectivity), why not discuss it in iPhone boards, maybe someone will get the hint!

who knows........ you really shouldn't put people in a box!

Politically driven? That is a new one. Care to explain?

iPhone price plans are comparable to Android, Blackberry, WinMobile etc.

But your asking phone specific questions about the HTC Desire??

Absolutely, Politics is about being superior controlling the agenda; they say, oo it's hard to tether, we need to change £5 a month extra for it! oo these are new devices, it's technically different.

Expanding the agenda is about expanding discussion, tethering is not hard, it is in fact very easy. and as long as you stay within your data limits what does it matter what device you do it with.... why is a mart phone different from a standard 3G phone in terms of technical differences...... it's not...

Politics/hierarcy/agenda setting...

talking about things,***** the politics!

hey ho!!!

Because those limits are set assuming most people wouldn't even come close to using it all. If everyone used up their limit the network would crawl to a stand still. This is also the reason they don't allow tethering with the iPhone. There are already so many iPhone users out there that are using up the majority of their network bandwith. Imagine if they all decided to tether their laptop to their phone as well? I'm sorry but I'd prefer my cell phone to operate at it's current speeds and pay for internet access on my computer seperately. Now before this thread goes on any further, why don't you do a search about tethering? I'm sure you will find hundreds of threads complaining about the same thing just as you are.

If you wanted to tether, give PDANet a go.
http://www.junefabrics.com/android/

PDANet has been one of the most popular software for Windows Mobile phones, Palm OS phones and iPhones. It is now ported to the Android system! PdaNet provides you with FULL Internet access so all your email, instant message programs will work without any setting changes. Supports both USB Tether and Bluetooth DUN.
PdaNet does NOT require root access or hacking your phone's firmware in order to work. It is just a regular Android application that works on all Android phones as-is. Tethering is fast, secure and USB mode will also charge your phone at the same time. Your phone can either connect to 3G data, WiFi, or even through VPN and PdaNet will share the connection with your computer.

As for syncing, I sync all my computers to Google and my Nexus 1 to google. It pretty much syncs like this:

Nexus One <----> Google <--->Mac/PC

All working fine for me. :p

I have just switched to android!

After owning the original Iphone since I picked one up in the states before the official UK launch and the heady days of the original TurboSim unlock, I have switched to the HTC Desire.

I have loved having a phone that could do things that others could only dream of for nearly three years. I have a macbook and an imac, and have converted several people to the Iphone... but when it came down to my contract renewal with vodafone (who have recently started offering the Iphone properly) I couldn't see how the Iphone was worth £15 a month more per month (the Iphone deals are ridiculously overpriced), for less processing power, less than half the RAM (than 3gS and by the looks of the tear down the next gen Iphone), no multitasking, no flash (Why not just build in a button to switch it off if we want the extra battery life and don't mind staring at blank boxes until HTML5 takes over, or even put a message on screen warning that if the device crashes it is all adobes fault...), and a distinctly dubious app approval policy.

The Desire (apart from the stupid name, and the fact that its not apple) is great BTW. I didn't think there would be life after Iphone, but there is...

I may end up on an Android as well. My contract has another year on it, but when it ends I won't get another iPhone if it's still only on AT&T. I miss and/or drop way too many important calls on my iPhone. And 3G is too often disappointing -- sadly, that translates to the iPad as well.

Because the whole thing was tinged with a little sadness that I just had to get off my chest...

I mean obviously I recognise that the Desire is a blatant rip of (even does multi touch)... and that apple are probably perfectly right to sue them for multiple patent infringements...

But it is a great phone (and I am a paid up mac fan boy...

When the iPhone first came out, a lot of people on WinMo and BB and Palm forums popped up to tell their friends that the new device on the block was cool to own.

This is the way that adults communicate. When they find something new and interesting, they tell each other about it.

However, it might indeed be a good idea if the mods opened a subsection just for Android - iPhone comparisons, questions and good-byes... because it's likely to become a flood.

Sorry... someone is going to have to explain what a Troll is... (I am assuming it is not the least bit Scandinavian...)

I prefer to think of it as being part of a longer sentence "Iphone therefore I am" plus... it is a name... which, trademark aside, generally begin with capitals in the English language...

My bro got the HTC Eris on saturday, and I've used it a little bit. At first I really liked it, but now its just "blah". The iPhone OS still beats Andriod by a mile.

a troll is your first post (to some people).

with all due respect do you really think posting a thread about android in an iphone forum is going to go down well?

who really cares what you think?

there are droid forums that would be much more worthy of your original post.
