4g in my area so I'm def gonna test drive it. The new iphone specs are disappointing

The new iPhone isn't out yet and no one knows its specs. I am not saying they won't be disappointing ;) but we still don't know the whole picture. I will definitely be comparing the iPhone 4th-gen and EVO when they are released for sure.

I have been a die hard iPhone fan. Even stood in line for the first iPhone and 3G. But the EVO 4G is the most tempting phone i have come across in the last 3 years. 4G speeds are super fast and it has Flash which is a huge win. Essentially its got the same or better specs as iPhone 4. I have started to like android a lot, its app store is not as mature as Apple but its getting there.

I will decide on July 7th if I want iPhone 4 or EVO 4G, right now im leaning toward the latter. Open FTW!

Can I dispute this? Direct link to google is as Jailbroken to iphone.

Thats complete wrong... I can take a direct link from any android site that is not in the android market and download it to my phone and install it. all I have to do is go to settings and check the box market "Allow Install of unauthorized apps" or something to that wording. I do not need to root and flash to get that functionality, its built into the OS.

Difference here is google ALLOWS this natively, they allow you to install outside apps. Apple DOES NOT want you too, they actively are trying to curtail the jailbreaking communtity.

Google INVITES rooting your phone and installing better roms or features, the source code is freely available and you can do with it as you wish. Apple does not.

So to say Jailbreaking and Rooting are the same, I would agree the end goal is the same. You are trying to get more out of a device. But the path to get there is not!

Direct linking and jailbreaking are not exactly the same you are correct. However rooting the phone for the purposes of flashing different ROMS and jailbreaking are entirely the same... All jailbreaking is, is flashing a rooted ROM on your iPhone... EXACT same thing as flashing a rooted ROM on your Android device. BTW if google invites this, why do you still have to jump through hoops and the dev community still have to a figure out a way to root each device and each OS release? Why doesn't google ship it pre-rooted or ship with simple instructions on how to root each device? The answer is they don't because they don't "invite" you to do this... they just don't go out of their way to make sure you can't... So in essence you were right about the direct link, that was my semantical mistake.

Do realize that specs wise the only thing the EVO 4G has over the iPhone 4 is well... 4G. So if you live in a city where 4G is available then I think you should by all means get an EVO. I do not live in a place with 4G therefore that 1 advantage which is the biggest advantage is taken away. As far as speed and performance the A4 chip whips the panties off of the snapdragon in real world benchmarks such as 3d rendering, web page rendering, video rendering etc... Thus even from a purely die hard specs POV the iPhone 4 or HD or whatever the lame name they will call it will still win. I haven't seen the iPhone 4 in action but I have seen the iPad in action in benchmarks. It's already been confirmed that the new phone will use the same chip as the iPad which could in turn produce even faster speeds as the less screen real estate on the phone means the processor and GFX processor have less to push. That being said if 4G was in my area I'd definitely take a good look at the EVO and play with it first of course to ensure that my other gripes about HTC and Android OS are addressed.

It has a better camera (with a much larger and quality lens and much larger CMOS sensor which is what really matters with picture quality, NOT megapixels). It has a faster CPU and GFX CPU than the anything that has been announced so far including the EVO 4... What about this is disappointing?

The new iPhone isn't out yet and no one knows its specs.

Um, where have you been?

There are photos, videos, descriptions of the casing, and details about the front and rear cameras, flash, dimensions, weight, processor, RAM, and even the size of the battery. iPhone OS 4.0 has been demonstrated. We even know about WiFi-only video conferencing.

The only thing we don't know for sure yet is the screen resolution.

I live in an area with great 4G coverage and I will be commuting to work on the train and thus 4G speeds will be very useful for me. It will be VERY VERY difficult for me to get away from iPhone but if EVO 4G is awesome then im sold.Although I am holding out for any new software features on iPhone OS 4.0 like iChat etc.. Decisions..decisions..

uhh.. according to the tear downs of the leaked iPhones... its has 256MB ram... sounds about right too since thats what they put in the iPad... the EVO has 512 which should make multitasking that much smoother... EVO also has HDMI out, a larger screen, the ability to serve as a 4G wifi hotspot for 8 devices, and 3G and 4G video conferencing... so you are wrong... it has more than just 4G over the iPhone...

The A4 chip may be better than snapdragon, im not sure really, and its still not stated if it will be clocked at 1Ghz although I imagine it will... what im really interested in is the quite obviously larger battery in this gen iPhone... thats going to be apples big selling point I would bet.

I am also in agreement with you Storm regarding the Evo.It seems to be a worthwhile competitor to the Iphone with the hardware specs.I have also had the Iphone for three years and love it but I preordered the Evo today. It was a surprise to me that I was the first preorder at Best Buy.I figured the Evo hype would have had some customers preorder before me at 4pm today.(before I get hammered here I know the preorder began today).I am willing to give the thirty day trial Sprint offers a test.If the phone doesn't suit my needs Iphone 4th gen here I come.

Are you on other sites? I have seen that same exact phrase posted several times over several sites. lol.

Nope, but I also had an HTC Imagio with a kickstand. It was terrific to pop the stand out and be able to watch Slingplayer or videos, or just start a slideshow for people at a table without you or them having to hold it up, or carry anything special.

It's the little touches that count :)

I posted this on other sites so why not here

Here is why the 10 bucks extra is so disappointing:

1. This is just another smartphone. It will already start to be outdated in 6 months just like any other smartphone. Dual core snapdragons are slated to be in phones by the end of this year. It's technology, the top never stays on top. Will you still want to pay 10 bucks a month when your phone is outdated? I love the EVO but this is true folks. Look at every phone that has ever come out. This is not subjective. T-Mobile, Verizon, etc will be rushing to bring a phone that will beat this one soon.

2. Most people live in 3G areas and will not see HD vids on the internet. They will not be able to send people HD vids via mms email etc. They will be pixalated just like on the iPhone on 3G. The 10 bucks is for nothing if you live in 3G.

3. The CEO said it was cheaper to produce a gig of data over 4G than on 3G. He said it would be free. Now he comes out with this $10 charge. It makes him a liar and as someone thinking to switch TO Sprint for the EVO, I am not sure I can trust Sprint. I for one need to be able to trust that my service will be what the provider says it will.

4. If you are in a 3G area and you pay for the everything data, you have already paid the 30 bucks a month that other companies charge for unlimited internet etc. You are paying for the "enhanced" experience already and then again if you are paying 10 bucks on top of that. It's like buying a soda at 7-11 and then getting charged again if you want to drink it. BS.

5. Sprint has to produce 4G signal. I applaud them for doing it first, but the fact of the matter, if you want to be a cell phone company in the US, you have to have 4G. The other cell phone companies will be providing 4G as well. It is just the way of doing business in the cell phone industry. Instead of holding 4G and the EVO over your head as extortion to get 10 bucks per month, it should be just a normal day of business. Every other cell phone company is trying to provide the best phone and 4G service ( eventually ) and they won't charge this. They will welcome the new customers and upgrades for it.

6. Related to 5 but whatever. Wimax is doing Sprint a favor more than it is doing the customer. They will save money in the long run using 4G over 3G as it is a cheaper technology that can produce data and handle more data for less money. Why should I invest money into a nest egg for Sprint? I pay for my service and they make money from that...No need to 4G tax me.

2G : 20
3G: 30
4G: 40
5G: 50?

P.S. I still might get one though. :D

The price of living the Jetsons lifestyle today can be a bitch!

For poops and giggles I emailed the above to the CEO.

Hello Dan,

Although I doubt you actually personally read my message I will respond none the less. I would be more than happy to take advantage of your everything data plan if it actually gave me everything data. It's false advertising at it's best and that is my opinion. I would love to switch to Sprint and bring all of my friends. I have been marketing your EVO to as many iPhone owners I can. The EVO is a great phone right now and it was up to you to either use it as a marketing tool or dangle it over the heads of those wanting it. You have thus far succeeded in using it as a means to deter those looking for real value, great service, and a smartphone device at Sprint. Will you still get sales? Yes. Will many now look at getting the iPhone HD coming out in June instead? Yes. They are not charging a premium for the iPhone internet service versus any other smartphone device's internet service. The processor on the EVO only effects the speed of which data is processed, not the amount that is used. The HD use of the camera only effects the amount of data when using a 4G signal. Many of your customers do not have 4G service and will have their HD videos downscaled when sending them via 3G. You are charging $10 for enhanced data on the EVO that simply will be the same exact experience on any other Android 3G phone in a 3G region.

Please find a way to let me and others on the fence make you money by simply switching to your service. A lot of us are not interested in paying for something twice with the Everything Data plan and $10.

Thanks,

Corrie

Bottom line, I don't pay fees unless there is a real reason.

You do have a choice.

A - get the phone and deal with what they have to offer. You don't get to complain.

B - don't get the phone and you can complain all you want.

You can't do both.

Welll I do have an ace up my sleeve that will give me 20 bucks off the 129.99 plan, but why not email and complain. I enjoy complaining to multimillionaires. Makes me chuckle a little when im in line at 7-11 buying a loto ticket.

An ace up your sleeve huh? If price is an issue for you, switch back to regular phones and be done with it. Why have a smart phone to begin with?

Now that's just antagonistic. It's not price it's principal and value. What do I get for my money. Is it worth this amount of bling bling..

Nah, you would know clearly if I was being antagonistic. That was just a comment. :)

If you want value, buy a prepaid phone. That's the BEST value out there. No fuss, no muss. There is no principal in complaining about price for something, 1 - you don't have and 2 - isn't even out yet. Not to mention you don't know how it will work in your area or even if it will work at all. Smart phones and mobile contracts are luxury items. They are not required. Prepaid phones are for those that don't want to pay a lot or are concerned with how much a month to month mobile plan costs.

So, you only get to complain but so much. Everyone is aware of all costs up front. If it becomes too much for someone to handle, you downgrade your plan, service or get rid of it altogether.

But if you read my posts it's clear I am not complaining about how much I have to pay but why I have to pay for "enhanced" data just for the EVO. With ATT I pay more than Sprint is asking but I know what I am paying for. I pay 30 bucks for data X 2. I pay 30 bucks for unlimited text messaging. I pay 59.99 for 550 minutes for two lines. With Sprint you pay 129.99 for everything data which includes unlimited data for all of their smartphones. They now want 10 bucks extra exclusively for the EVO because of it's 4G ability in 4G areas. It's retarded and many many people agree with me.
