Of course the draw back is if you don't live in a city with good Sprint 4G coverage

Sprint's 3G coverage is not bad at all, my buddy has been a 3G data card user for three years and works while he fishes.

I would switch even if I didn't have 4G on the horizon, and never look back.

Thank God for competition! Apple/AT&T, competition is about to smack you guys in the grill.

Man has it been a long, painful, take-it-in-the-a%% wait though.....

I'm heavily considering getting the EVO, mostly because my nearly two year old 3G is starting to show some signs of diminished battery life. No matter what, I am getting a new phone in the next two months.

1) I have massive hands, so I don't think the phone size will bother me.

2) The HTC Sense UI is REALLY slick. This and the Incredible are the only two Android phones that have made me consider leaving Apple. If you haven't seen the UI yet, I suggest checking it out. Apple could learn a thing or two. the iPhone UI was amazing three years ago, but it is really showing its age.

3) The Sprint plan would save me ~240 a year on my phone bill.

4) Android has a number of really nice features that would sway me over. Not multitasking, I could care less about that, but the built-in GPS navigation, voice to text, and A2DP support.

5) Replaceable battery. Having a fully charged 2nd battery to run to would keep me going on even the busiest days.

If I was in a 4G city, it would be a no-brainer, but unfortunately, I am not one of the lucky few.

What it comes down to for me, is to see what Apple's iPhone announcement looks like. We have an idea about most of the hardware now, but we don't know battery life, or if there will be any other additions to the 4.0 OS that will only work on the iPhone HD (or whatever it is called). If the new iPhone uses a slightly better radio, we might be able to get faster download speeds than the 3GS, which would be a nice improvement too.

So, I'm not going to be in line on June 4th to pick the EVO up, but if the new iPhone presentation doesn't blow me out of the water, I may be there June 7th.

Wow this is great news! I have no coverage with ANYTHING except AT&T and Sprint at my house. With AT&T's unbelievably slow 3G, I think I'm going to go for the EVO!

Thank you so much for informing me!

Samstod, I like your #5 observation.A replaceable battery would suit MY needs very well also. I've seen many debates here regarding the pros/cons of having a replaceable battery. Many people here commented on other threads that they do not like having a battery door which could unlatch and fall off losing that panel. For me,I would keep the phone in a case so the battery door would not be a concern. If I'm on the run, and not able to charge it I would simply pop in that second battery and be happy that I can still use my phone until I can charge it.

I have a 100% ATT signal at my house and at work and I am lucky to get 1.5Mbps down and 200Kbps up. Even if I get low end 4G access it will blow that out of the water. Should be interesting to see what I get with the evo, if I can sustain over 4Mbps and get spikes up to 10Mbps like I have seen in demos, I might drop my home internet.

You're hilarious.

HTC Sense + Android WIPE THE FLOOR with the iPhone OS.

- TRUE multitasking. And Android is smart enough to "suspend" applications so they're not just fully running in the background sucking up your battery.

- Widgets on your home screen. There are hundreds of these available.

- Social networking integration with Facebook, Twitter, Flickr.

- More freedom. If you want Flash on your Android phone - you've got it. If you don't want it - you can turn it off or uninstall it. If you want to install an app that Google doesn't allow in the Android Market, you can install it using a direct link.

- Android is seeing more updates than the iPhone and progressing much more rapidly. Android is newer than the iPhone OS, yet it has more features?

- HTC/Google don't dictate what you can and can't do like Apple. They don't stop you from listening to an FM Radio just because it will cause them to lose money on music sales. They don't stop you from playing flash games just because it will cause them to lose money on game sales.

- HTC Evo specific: better camera, removable battery, gorgeous OLED screen, WiMax support, WiMax hotspot, snapdragon processor (trust me - these things fly), MicroSD card support, so if 32GB isn't enough for you, you can just buy more cards.

The ONLY thing that iPhone is better than Android at, at the moment, is the apps side of things. There's about 6-7 times more apps available for the iPhone - but Android is rapidly getting more and more every day.

Up until recently iPhone was always the king of usability, but with HTC Sense this is no longer the case - HTC Sense is just as easy to use as the iPhone.

The HTC/Android experience is always going to be better than the Apple iPhone experience because you have the freedom to do what you want with your device without jailbreaking and voiding your warranty.

<3 my HTC Desire

Android sucks without rooting, and if you go through the trouble of rooting, which is just a tad bit tedious than jailbreaking, you would jailbreak, which in turn would open up the software side of things to a whole new level.

The evo doesn't have an OLED screen, why do android lovers sugarcoat so many things?

3GS is a year old now, yet it's still way more smoother than any other touch device on the market, the only thing that is able to +1 an iPhone is an iPhone.

When the 4th gen comes out, it's going to wipe floors with the 3GS, especially with all the optimizations coming with 4.0.

Android is slow and choppy, and we don't even know anything about 2.2 where as 4.0 is at beta 3 and will released in less than a month.

Heck, even the 2G and 3G still manage to be more fluid than other Android devices, and that hardware is already more than 4 years old.

iPhone impresses geeks and average people alike, the speed, aesthetics and functionality, to be honest, the features that Android has, I would only want it if Apple was to implement them because Apple is the only company that ever manages to do things right, when the time comes that is.

I totally agree iPhone OS kicks ass!

It's the one feature that keeps me hanging in there

Now if the new iPhone had 4G speed, 4.3" screen, Hotspot, and Adobe Flash

I would be in heaven

Lets pray for miracles

Wow, at least my post had some real life practical examples this just sounds like pure fannoyism lol. :)

I think the iPhone os is dated but iTunes synching, mobile me, and the iPod ability on my car navigation is making me worry about the evo. I think the evo will be the better phone especially if the new iPhone has a smaller screen but I will miss those 3 items.

Luckily I'll use the full 30 day no questions asked sprint return policy. I'll probably also purchase the new iPhone and I'll keep the one that has less things that really bother me ha!

I also worry about iTunes syncing, but i hear doubletwist is great for android and iTunes sync. And google has free OTA sync, why pay for mobile me? :)

I hope Evo gets android 2.2 w/ flash soon.

- 1 GHz Snapdragon processor
- Android 2.1, currently the "best" version of Android
- HDMI out - can connect to a TV to watch video
- 4G speed
- The phone itself is a mobile hotspot
- 4.3 inch screen
- 8 megapixel camera and a front-facing camera

It's basically the motherlode as far as hardware specs go. Of course, those are just numbers and no one will know if the final package will live up to those gaudy numbers.

I suspect the next iphone will have that!! Except for the HDMI out and may not the 4.3 inch screen. Next iphone may not have 8 megapixel, but 5 is enough. There are rumors of a verizon iphone which may have 3g/4g combo, too. hotspot is possible.

I was about to start a forum comparing these two phones but luckily found this one...

I just found out about the EVO about a week ago and WAS BLOWN AWAY! HTC really overbuilt this thing! I'm currently on Sprint and have been holding out for iPhone HD after it was announced. I owned a 3g but ended up getting rid of it because of all the tacked on fees and I could get Sprint's unlimited for so much less.

BUT, i was really considering switching back to iPhone for this so build and then here come's this EVO and now I dunno what the heck to do. I started doing some research on sense ui and honestly think that it's better than iphone OS. Problem is Android is so fragmented that I'll most likely not be able to upgrade if I switch.

Long story short, I am REALLY impressed with this EVO, and it's tempting... very tempting...

I'm going to wait until I see Steve's presentation to decide.

I think it's really funny that someone started a thread like this on an Apple forum. What did everyone here expect, everyone stating "iPhone is god, everything sucks?" I'm amazed this thread isn't longer....

Anyways, I came here to see what the iPhone 4G was going to have and stumbled upon this thread.

I haven't been here since the 3GS launch when I got said phone. I enjoyed it, but over time really started to noticed my experience was limited, both due to Apple limited what I can do with my phone (limited the tethering hack, etc) as well as shotty 3G coverage form AT&T. My signal will go from 3G to Edged, drop down to nothing, back to 3G, but will still slowly load a website, then drop to nothing again, then get full 3G back. This occurs in a non-moving location. MY 3G experience and signal has decreased over the past year to such a point where I simply can't use my phone at time. This is beyond frustrating. Obviously, I'm bitching MORE about AT&T than the phone. For the generation when the 3GS came out, it was a kick ass phone.

Fastforward to today. The lack of options I had with my iPhone forced me to jailbreak this phone just to get a custom background, 5x5 icons (4x4 was too limiting) as well as 5 icons on the home bar (or whatever it's referred to). I just want to do what I want, and unfortunately, I can't. I've noticed even before jailbreaking, safari slowed down each time after each up date and would hang a lot. Jailbreaking didn't affect this negatively. It actually hangs less, go figure, but still hangs. I've had to reflash my phone from scratch a few times just to get it working. This was worse than my windows xp experience and windows 7 seems more stable, lol. I know you guys over hear at apple will hate that, but I've had both win 7 & my iphone for a while, iphone since it launched in 09' and win 7 which launched in October of last year. I've reinstalled windows once due to my own screwing up of the OS, but the iPhone overshadows that by a larger margin, 4 or 5 times.

I'm now looking at two options, stick with AT&T (and horrible service here) or go with Sprint which ends up being cheaper and doesn't drop calls (says a few friends who have the service). In the end I chose the EVO since I can use my phone as a phone. Dropping calls constantly (I've lost calls up to 5 times during a 45 minute conversation) is not worth paying for. I've also gotten turned off by AT&T's failure to fix simple billing issues promptly. That covers the service issues.

I originally bought my 3GS for the internet experience and I'm still happy with it, but it's lacking.... certain things do NOT work right, like Java, even some pictures do not load properly. Flash is another issue. I don't care if it's slow or not, it's something many sites use and I lose functionality and MY experience is diminished. I prefer open platforms and don't want the OS company limiting my experience.

As well, the fact that there's a larger screen, an 8mp camera (idk what the iPhone 4g will have, but I can't see it being more), the fact that I can buy a 2nd battery, add more storage if I like (carrying a few 16gb memory microSDHC cards is easy), can flash custom roms (that IS a plus for me, if not for you, no one's forcing you to) and updates that actually increase functionality and not decrease it. Froyo (android 2.2) looks to be another huge improvement over 2. 1 and 2.1 is great from what I've see. Sticking with Apple, using very very bloated iTunes software, and a limited phone are over.

Heck, even the 2G and 3G still manage to be more fluid than other Android devices, and that hardware is already more than 4 years old.

Anyone who claims iPhone and iPhone 3G is smoother than Nexus One, Incredible or Evo clearly never uses one of those devices in person. All reputable reviews on the Incredible state how smooth HTC Sense runs on the phone.
