I held an Evo tonight at work, and was not impressed whatsoever. A flimsy plastic stand on the back? Really? It felt absolutely pathetic. The screen was so obnoxiously large that I'd classify it as the Jitterbug of smart phones. Not interested whatsoever.

Hahaha... It's funny how people comes up with ridiculous lie like this one. You never held or played with an EVO. BTW, the stand is not plastic.

100 text messages in one day

I barely do 100 in a month...lol

Ditto. I have a new co-worker that started a few weeks ago. Asked me about texting on our work phones. I told him I don't do it...use my personal phone.

He tells me he's probably already sent over 200 in 2 weeks. I tell him I don't think he has a texting plan on his phone. He thinks he does.

I verified today (a few weeks later) that he didn't. Now we'll just be waiting on that $600 texting bill to show up.

I checked pricing on plans for the EVO and I'd be paying about 5 dollars more a month then on AT&T (right now I have 2 iphones so 2 Evo's)but I'd also have unlimited texting and more minutes (not that it matters since we never go over on either)

My contract with AT&T isn't up until November but I'm probably just going to upgrade iPhones at this point.

What plan do you have?

450 min to landline and unlimited mobile to any mobile from sprint is $130+20 for 2 EVOs = $150

1500 min $90, $30 for unlimited family text, $60 data for 2 iphones = $180
700 min $70... = $160

am I missing something?

They all say it screams and it's a beast and it's super powerful. Sure, those phrases can be applied to it having 4G, but I get the distinct impression people think it somehow has more processing power than the six month old Nexus One.

Exactly...it's like watching a crappy movie that you paid 10 bucks in the theatre.

You'll do anything to justify it.

It SSSCCREEEAAAMMMSS FAST!!

Also,

Sprint opens their doors at 8am tommorrow.......ugh.....lol that could make me not want it now.

I wish I was out there getting one right now... :( Unfortunately I have to wait to get some plan info sorted out (Getting on a family plan, switching plan ownership, porting my number) before I get mine.

I'll have to hold out for the pics and videos to start popping up to ease my mind.

Be sure to pick a good one (EVO) because evidently they are not all equal. Maybe you need to smell them first to be sure they are ripe, or squeeze them gently and look for bruising.

This bug has already been fixed and is being sent out as an OTA update.

Update: Well, that was quick. Dre wrote in to tell us of a 13MB OTA update being pushed already, version 1.32.651.6, that looks to include a number of fixes including, apparently, a solution for this storage bug. We're hearing it also breaks the root path that dropped yesterday, but it sounds like a decent trade-off for now.

Has anyone said it is faster than the incredible or nexus then? It's a bit silly of them if they did.

Nexus with FroYo screams..... Unless you have flash.

(I jest) ;)

I

Nexus One is faster than my EVO ESP with Froyo... hands down no contest.

I picked one up to play with since I sold my iPhone and waiting for the new one.

Overall it's meh.....feels the same as the nexus did. I personally don't like android and this is more of the same. Android to me is quirky and lacks polish of the iPhone os. Thank god I have my iPad till then!

Also the screen is big but not great quality. The ipad (next iPhone rumored to be similar) and nexus one have better screens.

I really hope apple doesn't let me down..... If they don't give me what I want I might have to switch.....on my 3rd iPhone and also kinda tired of not having my phone insured! I will just wait and see what apple has up there sleeves!

I pickd up the Evo earlier today from Best Buy. The phone is beautiful and built very well. I love the expose like 7 home screens. I wish Apple did something like this because I love expose on my Macbook Pro.

I also like the following:
big beautiful high resolution screen
great build quality (size is not much bigger than the iPhone)
notification system
multiple buttons on the bottom of the screen actually makes it easier to use
the look of android or maybe its HTC Sense
wonderful gmail integration

I dont like the following:
missing a lot of apps
no itunes integration
very poor music player
need multiple apps for opening emails?
doesnt work with my car navigation system
After about 3 hours of use I feel like I wish HTC built this as the next iPhone with Sense layered about 4.0. I think that would be the perfect phone.

Apple does make things simpler with iTunes integration and also how it charges and works through my nav system. I new these things going in, but these are big deals.

Im going to use it for another 1-2 weeks but I am torn...

Anyone in here gotten the evo yet?

Just got home with mine. Its awesome, the screen is amazing. Of course the Nexus is faster, its running boring ass vanilla Android while the Evo is running Sense. Turn Sense off and the Evo will be just as fast (if not faster) than the Nexus One. Sense is awesome though, I would never dream of it.

It will take new owners a while to discover everything. There's a lot of lightly hidden power such as the universal voice input, built-in nav, how to customize your home screens, etc.

My first advice: run, don't walk, to http://www.appbrain.com/ and sign up. Also download their app which allows you to sync your device.

Sometimes I'll browse AppBrain on my iPod touch while in the ... ahem... men's room library.. and pick out apps to install. When I later sync my Incredible with AppBrain OTA, they show up for installation or buying.

Obviously the Nexus One is faster, it doesn't have to deal with the bloaty sense UI.

I don't know if you have personally tried Sense UI on the Incredible or EVO. I know we don't have any Sense UI running 2.1 in Canada yet (Desire will be out next month). Perhaps you should try it before commenting. Incredible Sense UI is very smooth and it's as smooth as my Nexus One.

You can use bTunes which is pretty much the Iphone music player and use doubletwist and other apps for Itune integration. Also you don't need multiple apps for opening email. Don't know what made you come to that conclusion. I open my email with just clicking on the mail icon. I don't know what you mean the phone doesn't work with your car navigation system, when the phone has its own navigation apps.

I've read multiple comparisons of the Nexus One and Incredible and pretty much all of them confirmed the N1 was faster. So it isn't much of a stretch to think the same applies to the Evo, especially considering they are the same processor.

It's also not that much of a stretch for someone to piece it together themselves. One of them is running Froyo, and has absolutely nothing on top of the stock OS. One is still running 2.1 and has a whole interface on top of the OS. Even if they were both running 2.1 the first one still applies.

I'm still learning Android obviously but those were quick impressions. My iphone works through ny car navigation system. I don't believe android can display my song and playlistism on my nav screen. I tried double twist but it seems finicky so far.

Some more impressions:
on-screen keyboard is good.
Battery life is real bad (4G is off). Worse than my 3gs which was bad. I think there is a new battery that is the same size but has more power
Is there anyway to sync bookmarks to the phone?
Screen is really amazing. Haptic feedback is ok but can returned off
Lots of options and flexible
facebook app sucks, but fb integration with sense and contacts is pretty cool
Google really needs an itunes like program
