I think you are missing the point. Sprint has a full refund policy for 30 days. People that are doing this really aren't sacrificing anything.
Still seems a hassle. I would wait 5 days than go through the trouble. But that's just how I feel.

How do you do that if you're already assigned a number from sprint and the account is activated?
Edit: I'm asking, I'm not trying to say that you're wrong.
As far as I know, any account you start up on a different carrier requires some time to port the number over to the new account, carrier. In the interim you have a phone new number available to be called while the porting is in progress. So in essence, you're already assigned a new number when the carrier account is activated, it is just quickly replaced with your ported number. I imagine the same is done within the 30-day period if you choose to stay.
No it doesn't take any time at all. I ported my number over to AT&T and my iPhone was working in 10 mins.
true, but the only issue with going that route is that you will not be able to port your number over to sprint. if you don't care about keeping your number then its a win win situation.
I am on Sprint and plan on getting the EVO on Friday, however I have always liked the iPhone.
I can honestly say if the next gen iPhone has everything it's rumored to have I would want the iPhone over the EVO.
Like someone above posted, on paper many phones may be better than the iPhone, but the way the OS has the Hardware and software work together perfectly is what makes it so good.
If you have seen test videos of 720P videos from the EVO you will be disappointed, guarenteed. However if the rumors are true about a 720P video camera and 5 megapixel camera on the next iPhone are true I guarentee it will be much, much better than the EVO's.
Apple puts a lot of effort into making these products, and they deliver, they never make a feature half ass.
The evo has 65K colors, v. a 3yr old phone with 16 million.
Yes, the naked eye may not be able to tell the difference most of the time, the more colors will probobly look better in apps, and videos,
And if the rumor about a 960*640 screen resolution are true, this thing is going to look absolutely stunning, and I mean that. Even the sceen on the other 3 versions are great, but this will be 2x clearer. The screen will be so clear, you would think you are really holding what ever you are seeing in the screen.
if the iPhone has the same specs as the evo, Minus screen size and 4G of course, I think I would go with the iPhone.
All the little things on the iPhone are cooler imo.
I have owned a hero, which is very similar, and for example, when charging the phone the iPhone gives u a big battery showing how much you have, the evo and hero dont do that.
Lastly if this has a 1 ghz processor on it, it will open everything right away.
the 3G and 2g have i think a 400Mhz (.4 ghz) and they still don't look that bad compared to the Droid incredible or droid. Imagine an iPhone two times faster than the 3GS.
Anyways, I would wait til the 7th and see, then make the decision.
iMJustAGuy said:I just don't like the Android OS can do... The only things I REALLY like about the phone is the Camera Quality and Screen really.
Apparently NOBODY in this thread has a EVO, I have had one for 2 weeks...
Iphone doesnt compare.

How is the keyboard? The MAIN problem I have with Android is the keyboard is nowhere near as accurate as the iPhone's.
Then I found a Calibration option under Settings- Keyboard- TouchInput- TextInput. It had me type in the usual "little brown fox" sentence. After that was done, the keyboard works perfectly for me.
And apparently you don't have a 4th gen iphone to compare to either. I mean, sure the Evo should spank the 3GS which is more than 1 year old...Apparently NOBODY in this thread has a EVO, I have had one for 2 weeks...

That must be part of the SenseUI as I don't have that option on my N1Then I found a Calibration option under Settings- Keyboard- TouchInput- TextInput. It had me type in the usual "little brown fox" sentence. After that was done, the keyboard works perfectly for me.
I have been an iphone user since the first gen. I have a 24 and a 27" iMac as well as an MBA and an iPad. I am a self admitted fanboy. With that said I am seriously considering switching over to the evo on Friday. Anyone else in the same boat? Here are my reasonings.
I can save money going with an HTC Evo and adding mobile Hotspot over going with an iPhone and paying 2 30.00 data plans through AT&T. General breakdown for me goes as follows:
Sprint Family Plan for 2 Evos:
1500 Landline minutes with UNLIMITED any carrier cell 2 cell, Unlimited Data and unlimited Text - 149.99
Mobile Hotspot - 29.99
--------------------------
179.98
AT&T For 2 iPhones:
1800 anytime minutes with unlimited AT&T 2 AT&T usage - 129.98
2 data plans - 60.00
unlimited Text - 40.00
iPad 3G - 30.00
------------------------
249.98
I supprt technology that supports me and it has come to the time that I have to make a decision based on
Evo:
Affordablility - Evo
screen size - Evo
Camera - Evo
Multitasking - Evo for FULL multitasking (thogh jailbreak and viola)
HDMI Out and HD video - Evo
Flash Support - Evo
FM Radio (if you care) - Evo
built in GPS Nav - Evo
mobile Hotspot!!! - Evo
Battery setup - Evo. All i need is an extra Battery.
Carrier Services - Evo with Sprint TV, Nascar, Football, Youtube HD etc..
Network Speeds - Evo is supposed to get 10mb down over 4G. yikes
Built in Turn by Turn Navigation - only Evo offers it
iPhone:
Resolution - iPhone but the 64k colors TFT of the evo looks fine streaming video
Overall Network - iPhone (I think) but with that said 4G should be dropping in my area end of June so Im all good
Toss Up:
Operating System - I am not sure
Storage - iPhone (If you are buying anything over 32 gigs of course
Forward Facing Camera - Guess it depends on what happens Monday Morning
Speed - The Evo in the videos really does seem to be as fast as my iPad.
So looking over my standard comparison list and adding in the monetary factors another thing that comes into play here is that I already have an iPad and quite frankly being that it is a big iPhone in every manner imaginable, and I'm good with that, I think that the correct answer for me is the Evo from Sprint.
Please let me also note here that I will be trying it out for a couple weeks and there is a chance that if completely unsatisfied I can return it for full refund and still go with the iPhone.
Anyone else thinking about this?

I can't deal with the capped voice minutes. I use too many of them still. Call me old school, my business depends on me speaking to people in buildings with land lines.
