The lag isn't visible when scrolling fast/flicking. It's very clear when pitching, scrolling slowly, especially on the apps page.

No use complaining about the battery when you havent even fully charged it yet. Takes a good 3-4 cycles to hit its stride and besides, unlike the iPhone, you can buy a larger capacity battery for it! I already have my 1800mah from my Hero in mine :)

Unfortunately I did not have a chance to try the evo, i was not gonna wait in a 10 min line just to try it out...

Anyway to the point, Android 2.2 is said to have fixed all those lag issues.

I held an Evo tonight at work, and was not impressed whatsoever. A flimsy plastic stand on the back? Really? It felt absolutely pathetic. The screen was so obnoxiously large that I'd classify it as the Jitterbug of smart phones. Not interested whatsoever.

HA! HAHAHAHAHAHA. ROFLMAO!!!

You don't have a clue of which you speak, sir.

HAHAHAHAHA!

Ha.

Its not the same testing a EVO on the store than actually own one.

I have an iphone 3gs and the EVO after doing the latest update and setting the phone , I must say the EVO is faster more stable than the 3gs, all the apps like ebay, paypal, google earth, tmz, etc etc that I have tested work super fast compared to the 3gs, and more stable too. Webpages scroll very smooth.

If tested a EVO in the store the phone probably was laggy because all the programs running on the background, if they didnt close the program propertly they will still run on the background.

The EVO is great phone I have installed tons of apps since 9:30 this morning when I got it and I can compared to my ipad snapier interaction.

I wont go back to the iphone anytime soon.

Just my two cents.

I'm shocked to see there's more positives than negatives in this thread.

Has anyone try the Qik video chat under 3g/4g connection? If so, how's it?

Looked at it today. The deal breaker for me was having to play 10 per month for 4g when I won't even have 4g in my area for "at least a year and a half"

I'm still learning Android obviously but those were quick impressions. My iphone works through ny car navigation system. I don't believe android can display my song and playlistism on my nav screen...

Do you have a USB connection in your car? In mine once I've connected the Evo via USB I pulled down the notification drawer, mounted the SD card, and music info instantly loaded up on my audio display in my car :)

Tried the eve just now at best buy. It lagged like a biotch! Was VERY stuttery. It's anshame because it's great phone. So I decided to go through the settings and see how many apps were running. I almost **** myself right there in best buy. Theere had to be 100 apps running using memory. Since they had not installed app killer, I was unable to see what the phone normally runs like.

Bottom line, if you tried a demo phone, it most likely had been molested and abused all day. It's quite common for demo phones to be touched in inappropriate ways like this. If she was my phone, I would be much more gentle and kill an app here or there. ;)

totally agree with this, the ability to use the 4G network is the essence of the phone. (though the hardware aint bad either) :D

I plan on getting the next iphone but if 4G comes to my area I might just be tempted to switch..but I expect ATT willl bring out 4G in...2011?

You might want to check with your local best buy about 4g. I was surprised today to find out that people are reporting 4g available in my area even though it's not supposed to be in my area and hasn't been announced. The best buy rep said that they had 4G signal today and that a sprint rep told them 4g here by the 27th. It was a serious WTF moment for me.

Haha, wow.

What a colorful way to describe the encounter. :p

I need to get myself to a store where I can play with one myself. Don't worry... I'll be decent. ;)

I've been using Android exclusively since last June. I had sold my iPhone 3G before WWDC and wasn't impressed with the 3Gs update.

Currently using the HTC Incredible on Verizon and it's a slick phone. But I played with the EVO today, and was very impressed. The phone is ALMOST too big, but it's just perfect.

The Incredible is up on eBay now, and pending what happens Monday out of San Francisco I'll either go back to the iPhone or move over to Sprint for the EVO.

It's currently probably the best smart phone in the US market to date.

My roommate just got one and I was just using it for a while. To tell you the truth I was really considering buying it before and I was going to wait to hear the new iPhone anoincement but probably going to get the evo. The specs are amazing and the screen is huge which I liked. After using it for a while I really wasn't impressed. It really does have a bit of lag. Everything loads up quickly but any swipe between screens or web browsing is a little delayed. I'm sure it's something anybody would get used to and it's much nicer then any other smartphone I've used except the 3gs. However, I will be getting the 4g. With all the money I have invested in apps and the smoothness of the iPhone OS it really makes sense for me. There is NO phone that operates as smooth as the iPhone no matter what you read anywhere else. I made my decision and I'm happy I had a chance to use one before switching.

I feel the exact same way. I don't think any other phone has the complete package like the iPhone does.

Did you or your roommate kill apps running in the background? Just wondering if this made a difference.

$10 a month would keep you from buying arguably the best phone on the market right now? Skip McDonalds twice in a month and you have your $10

Yeah he downloaded a task manager and killed all the 3rd party apps. It's not slow by any means, but not as quick and smooth as the iPhone. I think i'd be happy with the phone but I think I'd be happier with the iPhone.

End of day impressions:

- The screen is orgasmic. It's large, high resolution, bright, great viewing angles, and it is still visible while wearing polarized sunglasses.

- Battery life is OK, honestly better than I expected. I started the day with a partially charged battery and made it nearly all the way through the afternoon even after fondling it heavily. I suspect that with a fully charged battery I will have no problems getting through a normal day. I would suggest to anyone who plans on using it heavily that they invest in several USB -> USB Micro cables and keep them handy, as is the case with *any* modern smart phone.

- 4G is very fast and the coverage is pretty good in my area. Very rarely did the phone kick back down to 3G, and even then the speed was pretty acceptable. One noticeable issue is that while traveling at higher speeds (passenger in a vehicle), 4G can have a harder time handing data requests your phone is making. It can sometimes take two or three clicks on a link before the page will start to load.

- The interface is very slick, and simple enough to operate quickly. I am still only scratching at the surface, but it is *very* customizeable. If you want your homescreens to function just like an iPhone, you can do it. I didn't experience any slowdown or lag while using the phone at any point today.

- Flash works on the web, but doesn't play back video smoothly. I was very pleased at being able to stream songs from several sites that use streampod. Yes HTML5 is coming, but right now I still visit several sites where the ablity to view flash content is a big bonus.

- The hardware is very solid and the whole device just feels like a quality piece of kit. My two gripes are that the camera sticks out, and that the SD card is only acessable by removing the battery. The power button that some people complained about hasn't been an issue for me, and the kickstand feels very solid.

That's a bummer! I cant buy this until I am able to see how it handles with all the apps closed or at least a lot of them. I don't understand because I don't remember the incredible stuttering like this. Wonder if it has anything to do with that patch they put out today to fix the sd card issue.

Can you post a video showing how many applications you are running and show this "lag?" Then kill all the apps and show the "lag?" Take into account, the iphone runs like a dream... with ONE app open at a time... I just got back from Best Buy and messed with one and personally thought it was pretty unbelievable... I was TRYING to get it to lag and couldn't...
