it may be a 30-day for a full refund, but I don't go into it looking to return. I think thats a horrible way to go about it. I'm doing everything I can to make me stay with the phone because I love this screen.

I'm honestly giving you my opinion of everything that is happening with the phone. And trust me, i go to both the android central forums and here to get proper insight.

Everything i have been noting isn't a myth here...it's been WELL DOCUMENTED.

If that's not you then I don't see why you need to worry about it. They know who they are.

Seriously. People too poor to afford an extra $10 a month shouldnt even be on a real plan, get a Cricket and stop crying already :)

I agree if they $10 is a deal breaker you have bigger issues...

Imagine this board if AT&T had an additional mandatory $10 charge for iPhone. This board would be blowing up.....Sprit does it and its no biggie. Kind of funny

I don't mind the $10 fee for 4G. What I do mind is paying that when there is no 4G in the entire state of Colorado. I think Sprint should only charge those customers who live in a 4G area.

They indeed they do. But why you have to come and say something like that in the first place. Granted, i haven't read all the post...because this thread exploded when the phone came out but everything people are saying isn't out of reason. And it's their opinion.

I'm on sprint, so this was an obvious no-brainer to get. I'm coming from an HTC touch pro. That had a terrible battery for what it did. The battery life is obviously a bit disappointing, but I'm going to get a car charger, and I'm in my car about an hour a day, so I figure I'll get through the day just fine (yesterday was my first real day to use it, and it lasted till about 8pm with no charging since I took it off at 9:00, so I've had better luck than some) with moderate usage (it was in standby for a few hours, and I played robo defense for about 2-2 1/2 hours, made a few phone calls).

I'm liking it for the most part. The thing I liked about the Windows UI was how easy it was to go back to already opened programs. It only takes a few more seconds each time now that I have to go to the program icon, but it's still a bit annoying.

The browser is fine. I'll try another browser if they start having multi-touch support. The native browser isn't bad, but it's pretty standard. I"m not a big fan of the highlight feature either. I have had a few problems at time with the browser when I can't seem to get it to click on the link i want it to. I spend about 30 seconds on espn trying to get to a link and managing to hit every other link around it instead. this has been my only issue on the phone with it's accurateness with touch commands.

Menus can be a bit annoying to go through at times, but again, not a game changer. It may just take some getting used to.

The screen quality is great, and the size of the screen is very impressive. I showed it to my iphone owning friends and they said it was huge. We compared the sizes of the phones, and surprisingly, the evo is really not that much bigger (not to say there is no difference).

The processor is very speedy, I've only had it bog down slightly when playing robo defense (this was when i had a few other programs open, had the fast-foward button set on robo-defense, and had about as many enemies and towers of my own on the screen as possible), so I've been happy with that. I haven't had any issues with laginess otherwise, or any kind of janky screen rotation like i had on my touch pro.

Overall, I give it an A-. It's the best phone I've had, and is the first android phone I've purchased. Battery life is obviously a downside, but with a 4.3inch screen it's to be expected. Hopefully we'll get 2.2 within a reasonable time frame and that will help. The screen is great and the phone is pretty smooth overall. Haven't gotten to see 4g in action, though it's coming to my city sometime in july, so I won't have to wait too much longer. The kickstand is obviously an unnecessary feature, but it is kinda nice and I've used it a few times when watching videos. Video quality is very good, but blacks sometimes could be better.

PS:

The 3g seems to be faster than on other 3g phones I've used.

Also, the extra $10 a month is annoying but not terrible. People are talking about the $99 unlimited everything plan and comparing it to other networks, but that isn't entirely accurate. With sprint's unlimited mobile-to-mobile to other phones on any network, unless you're doing business and call a lot of landlines, there is no reason one will ever really go over the 450 minutes included in the everything data+450 minutes for $70 a month (plus the evo's $10). I used about 1400 minutes a couple months back, and something like 150 minutes counted towards my bill.

Because there were some prior posts that stated the obvious.

The phone just came out 2 days ago, none of the people posting have gone thru 3-4 full recycle charges. Oh and unlike your iPhone, the Evo takes extended life batteries. Cool concept eh? :)

I'm on my 5th cycle buddy. 5th!!!! The first 2 times, i tried to drain it as fast as possible. Now I'm just trying to live my life with it.

I'm on messager and Gtalk often through out the day. my percentage is at 63%....i just charged it full at 1:30pm. It's 4:30pm now in cali.

Also, when browsing using the opera browser for 10 minutes. Brightness 25% set. Turn off Mobile data always on. Turn off syncing. Changed frequency of gmail, mail, facebook, twitter to every 2 hours.

Buy the Mugen 1800mah battery which I have and get great battery life from or the Seido 2000mah and be done with it :)

Without the iPhone would Android exist today in the same capacity? Very doubtful.

If it wasnt for HTC, would the iPhone exist today in the same capacity? Very doubtful. Look it up, HTC was making smart phones and touchscreen phones while Apple was only making computers and MP3 players. They have been making phones since the late 90s and had quite a few firsts. Apple has never invented anything really. What they are great at though is taking existing technology, improving it and packaging it in a slick way the masses desire.

But isn't that the goal of every company, HTC included? It seems like you're trying to trivialize it a bit.

I still don't know where the battery complaints come from (at least when compared to iPhone 3GS and other smartphones). So today was day 3 with the EVO, and I spent much less time taking it through the paces, so it was a more normal weekend use I would say.

Out all day at little league game and kids birthday party, so was surfing the web periodically and checking email. Tried out the Sprint Navigation for a short trip across town (it's actually pretty cool for being stock with the phone). While going around town I also did about 20 speedtests with the EVO and the iPhone 3GS to test out speeds of both in different locations. 2 or 3 short calls. Fiddled with app store and downloaded one app.

My battery is showing at 30% right now, after being unplugged for 10 hours and 3 minutes with that usage. The allocations among the systems is pretty even, with cell standby the most at 26%. I also had the 4G radio on most of the day when I was out trying to see if there were anymore 4G "live" spots (I'm in LA and there is some testing that's live downtown).

So my iPhone, which I've used much less other than to check the MLB apps for scores a couple of times, is at 57%, and I didn't take it with me this morning so I'd say it's been unplugged only about 5 hours at this point. Pretty even I would say - I'm giving a slight edge in my first couple of days to the EVO but I'll keep working with both this week and maybe do a real world test by using the same types of functions on each for a day.

I agree. It was also easy on WebOS to go to another program.

However, you do know that you can hold down the Home button, and a list of recent applications shows up?

EVO owners should definitely check out the Tips and Tricks threads in forums like this one.

A big tip apparently is to turn off 4G if you're not in a 4G area. Otherwise it sucks down the battery searching for a signal, same as other phones do.

What do you have enabled. Is gmail always synced. Are you syncing google calendars? is GTALK always on? How many text messages have you sent?

I have sent about 50 and GTALK about 100 IM messages.

I also have friendstream on and i have spent the time and synced all my contacts with facebook.

You really need to grasp the concept of opinions and individual needs.
stop acting like everyone should like or use something. it entirely depends on the person...

whatever dude. u asked me what features and i told u. now ur getting all uppity with me bcuz u dont like the way i answered ur question? if u like using a phone with less features and useability, go right ahead. i couldnt care less... ignorance is bliss right?

Go through the hassle of Jbing? you download a program and press a button, if you think thats a hassle then "i dont know what to say"

stop lying dude. i owned a jb iphone and its not just "dl a program and push a button." its a lot more involed than that and u have to jb every time theres a new fw. thats a hassle.

gmail is synced and I sync my google calendars (which come from my blackberry from lotus notes at work). I don't think GTALK is on. And I rarely send texts so don't think I sent any text messages today, but did send a couple of emails and reviewed the several emails I received today.

I forgot - I also used the camera for a while at the little league game to get some action shots of my kiddo ;)

You still don't grasp individual tastes. Just because the EVO can do some more things the iPhone can doesn't mean that it's unequivocally better. Your response to this is "if u wanna have a phone with less features, ignorance is bliss". You're trying to say that our tastes are wrong, you're just doing it in a more roundabout way. There are reasons most people here like the iPhone more than the competition, and most of them are logical and well-reasoned.

I'd imagine it'd still exist just the same. I don't see a single phone in HTC's library pre-iPhone that looks at all like it could have provided any sort of inspiration for the iPhone. Maybe you could point out a few?

I'd also have to disagree with Apple never inventing anything. Their patent arsenal seems to say otherwise.

I have the Nexus and see no lagginess that you describe. When I went to the verizon store and checked out the incredible, I did notice that issue. Since they both (incredible/nexus) use the same processor and display. I'm guessing its HTC's SenseUI that sits on top of android.

My Nexus is running the basic OS without any extra layers, and the performance of the phone exceeds that of my 3Gs in many ways and is the same in others (mostly UI stuff).

I agree, it seems the UI overlay ( Sense) from HTC is causing a a slight lag. My Nexus one flies!

Here ya go. You should recognize a few phones in there that blazed a path for others.

While Apple does have a nice patent list, most all of it is software, not hardware.

They should have just left 4g off. It wasn't the much faster than the 3G in dc. Infact my AT&T blackberry had faster 3G than the eve 4g.

Realistically, you can only use 4g if plugged in and good luck getting signal indoors. On the go, it will drain the battery if you will use it for a long time and worthwhile for quick things since It takes about 30 seconds to a min for it to turn on and then catch signal.

HTC doesn't design the actual hardware components, right? Neither does Apple so I wouldn't expect major innovations in this area. Software innovations are what made the iPhone great.

I don't see anything in there that I would consider path blazing, but maybe I missed something. The Newton used touch before HTC's phones and I think Apple used multitouch before anyone as I understand. The design was certainly nicer than any phone I'd previously seen (but it was similar to the LG Prada as I remember).

Whether people like it or not the iPhone was a game changer for the entire mobile phone industry.
