Whether people like it or not the iPhone was a game changer for the entire mobile phone industry.

As I said, Apple does not create anything. They just take existing technology, tweak it a bit and put it in a very attractive package. I have Apple everything aside from the iPhone. Look at the iPod. There were plenty of MP3 players around before it, but Apple put it together beautifully and marketed it brilliantly. Same with the iPhone. There were plenty of touchscreen smart phones before it and phones that used finger gestures. Again, Apple just came along and put a very nice package together and marketed it very well. iPad? Same thing. There have been tablets around for years, Apple just took it and made some great choices with how they designed it and marketed it so people felt they had to have it. None of these 3 devices have been anything we havent seen before. I would argue HTC's design of the first touchscreen phone and first phone to use a physical keyboard were much more significant designs then anything Apple did with the iPhone. As I said, Apple has really invented nothing but they sure know how to package and market products.

You're belittling the efforts of one of the most innovative companies in the world. The reason they sell so many products isn't just because of marketing and packaging. The start with introducing a product that has been seen before in the market, although in primitive form. They then create an incredible user experience on top of something that before was difficult to use. That is what makes Apple products such good products and provides the initial momentum so people swept up by brand image will find them desirable. To say that the iPhone wasn't a creation or demonstrated innovation is laughable. Apple has consistently been able to beat other people to the punch in popularizing products and markets. iTunes? It wasn't the first, but it's now dominant. Same with everything else. They see where the industry is headed and they capitalize on it.

Why don't you go post your biased love for HTC on an Android or HTC forum. I am sure your words would have more value over there.

There is also a 3500mah as well but Seido has not yet come out with the back covers yet. It will add more bulk to your phone, but you will never complain about battery life again :)

That one needs a new cover so I will save judgement.

You still don't grasp individual tastes.

And u still havent learned how to read. where did I say that android is better? once again (pay attention) android has more features and functionality. That is an objective observation.

Youre the one bringing up individual tastes and subjective experiences, not me. my response to that is if you like a phone with less features... go right ahead!!!

Okay, probably I am first person who decided to return his EVO 4G.

Will wait to see tomorrows iPhone announcement but 99% certain I am returning it! It's already in its package!

What dont you like about it?

Because it doesn't have an Apple logo on the phone. :p JK

IMO, I really think Apple did raise the bar with the iPhones. I don't think smart phones would be this innovative without the iPhone as a competitor.

And you would be right in pointing that out, until you say.....

This.

I point you to my previous post

You're trying to say that our tastes are wrong, you're just doing it in a more roundabout way.

That's what you're doing.

Raise the bar how? It didnt do MMS, it didnt multitask, it didnt copy/paste, you couldnt swap in a new battery or more memory, zero customization, just a black background with buttons that open a program....it had a bigger list of things it didnt do than what it did do. Lesser phones were doing these things years before. As I said, if it wasnt for the app store, it would have been an epic fail. Why else would anyone have bought it aside from the apps?

Regardless of what the iPhone didn't do, what it did do it was first class at at the time.

Media sync, browsing, music/video playback were all ahead of their time compared to the competition in 2007 and the platform has aged quite well with the features Apple have added to it.

I don't have an iPhone but I always wanted one. I have to admit their multitouch is really nice, keyboard is easy to type, copy/paste is pretty good for a phone, and pinch zoom (multi-touch?) is smooth. I don't know if they came out with these features first or not but I definitely think they surpassed all the other touch screen smart phones. I think it was the best until the Nexus, Desire, Incredible and now the newly launched King EVO came out.

Yes, it did very well in these areas, I will give you that!

Even though it's an opinion and you are entitled to it. I respectfully disagree. I have been playing with the new EVO and that screen is amazing, even though the android OS is nice (and a great replacement for the Iphone OS). I still think iphone is the standard. It's more polished in every sense of the world, the multi-touch its infinitely better. ( I was having serious issues with pitch and zoom on maps, seriously google?...this is your best implementation).

The scrolling method used on androids is rather wierd. some people prefer it , i don't. It's like the scrolling is heavy at first, like there is a weight to the menu and when it gets over the hill...it just rolls with too much speed. It's also laggy.

The there are several replacement apps and i was able to get most of what I needed on my iphone on my EVO. It's nice to have notifications pop up on the top, but Gtalk because its running native hogs too much battery. I like having it there, but i liked apple's implementation of push notifications. My iphone is running beejive and only 10% battery has passed. In the same time, Gtalk and my evo went down to 10% left.

All my results, i used 3g signals only. I don't use wifi. I paid for 3G, all my phones will keep it on.

I think its refreshing to find that you can change anything on the android. I changed my ringtone for messages to the super mario 1up. So everytime it goes off...I get a life...(ahhhhh get it!!...drum roll! LOL).

I think apple's music player is better than the stock one and even though i can just use tune wiki, i think i'm growing on the stock android over it. (btunes is okay).

One thing HTC has over apple is integration of social apps. You have one hub to see all your social networks. Thats very nice, but at the same time, it kills your phone battery. So all these features they offer, to really take advantage of it, you have to sacrifice battery. You can make the analogy that its like a ferrari and you need gas to drive it (and it burns gas fast), but unfortunately, the android isn't a ferrari (even though its got ferrari red on the back of the evo cover where the battery is).

I changed to EVO for a changed. and to get a better perspective, if i want to come back, it would cost me 200 to cancel sprint which is better than paying 400 to cancel ATT.

But make no mistake, i may own an android, but the iphone is by far the king of all smartphones. They may be late to party on certain features, but everytime they bring them out....its also the best method. Their MMS, their copy/paste and now, their multi-task.

Biggest difference, is google doesn't care because they are only selling the operating system and they are just trying to get as much stuff out as possible. If a customer complains, HTC or Motorola gets the heat. (most people who buy nexus one, are pretty elite so they aren't dumb consumers).

For Apple, if a dev ruins an app and crashes the phone. The customer thinks its Apple. Apple is in Complete spotlight of any errors that happen to the phone because alot of dumb consumers buy the phone and aren't tech familiar. They just want a product that just works and the iphone does indeed just work.

For my android, yes all i need is my gmail account, but the amount of work i had to do to clean up old garbage because google SAVED EVERY CONTACT too about 2 hours to filter. Not to mention, that alot of things to maximize your battery, the user doesn't really know until they play with it for a while.

Apple assumes you are dumb.
Google assumes you are rocket scientists and you can fiddle away.

I really just want something inbetween.

I got an evo and unplugged it from the charger yesterday at 8:30 am. I checked my Twitter, Facebook, even recorded a 5 minute video, and uploaded it to YouTube on wifi. I took some pictures messed with the settings just used it reguarally, and i got 10 hrs and 14 minutes of battery life. I never got that witness my iPhone, ever.

Its going to take a few charge cycles to get decent battery life out of the evo, or any smart phone for that matter. I'm sure I can get better once I learn more about android and the OS but getting 10 hrs is very good for me.

Done with the Evo, it is going back.

The hardware was great, I had no complaints about the camera or video recording. Loved how solid it felt and the phone was not too big for me at all. The screen is amazing and when I look at my iPhone, the iPhone looks washed out. I had no problem with battery life after I started using the phone like I would my iPhone.

For software, the browsing experience took some time to get use to. Eventually, I could surf and type and started developing helpful habits for the android browser. The menu access took some time to get use to, but eventually became intuitive. The apps were growing on me, loved the Google and social networking integration. Some apps were missing in the marketplace but were being developed by the developers. Loved being able to download programs or themes straight out of the browser and having it install. I also wish HTC would just get rid of Sense UI, I tried to rid it as much as possible using different launchers (btw Launcherpro is awesome). I also briefly ran a Froyo rom for a little bit and loved the speed improvements. I would probably stick with the phone if Froyo was on it, but I'm impatient.

All in all, Android is developing quite nicely and the hardware support is there. The Evo was probably one of the first phones that got me to consider straying from the iPhone. I'm sure in the future, the UI will be as polished as the iPhone OS, but in the meantime, I'm going to stay sheltered under Apple.

Biggest complaint about my experience is Sense UI, the keyboard HTC uses in place of the Android one sucks. It's missing the pipeline character (I use it daily) and I'd rather not use other 3rd party keyboards. Please allow the user to fully turn off the HTC crap.

Mines went back already yesterday. It comes down to what works for you I guess. I want something that works not something I have to tweak everyday. Apples hardware also is miles better. The evo just didn't feel in the same league as my iPad and macbook pro.
