Seriously, don't hate on Sprint until you've tried it. There has been alot of good changes since the past. Once the Evo drops and they'll have a REAL phone on their hands and hopefully they'll continue to follow up. Sprint might not be leading the surge but they're still making "noise" to the other cell companies. They're reliable and affordable that brings potential to any market, wait till 4G has more of a roll out too.

I was with Sprint for 3 years before I came to the iPhone. Never had a problem with them. I actually had problems with AT&T service at first but now it is just as good as Sprint was. I did live less then a mile from the Sprint HQ though, so that might have had something to do with it.

I thought the Palm Pre was a "real" phone. At least, that's the gist I got from everyone and their mother stating it was THE iPhone killer!

LOL. I know you are one of the biggest Apple fanboys, but have you taken any statistics course?

A sample size of 4,000 is a very large sample szie just FYI.

This coming from an Android fanboy on an Apple forum. Have you taken an English course that specializes in spelling and proper grammar? Doesn't look like it to me.

Palm Pre software is great. It's the terrible hardwar that's the issue. Palm should have licensed it's OS to HTC and other hardware companies.

Guess we'll see what HP does with it.

Yup, the EVO 4G will be a nice phone. I played with an HD2. It's like putting a dinner plate in your pocket. Sit down and it feels like it'll break in half. Runs great though...

It looks very impressive, but like maflynn said, I don't think that Sprint's network is the best.

sprints network is better than att thats for sure. i used to have sprint and im switching back now. they had just as good as service as verizon if not better. when sprint doesnt have service they use verizons towers. att only has good service in main areas. out in the boonies my friends iphones never have service where sprint/verizon does.

Remember, Sprint = Sprint + Verizon.

What I mean by that is if you are on one of Sprint's "Everything" plans that start at $69.99 (or $59.99 if you know how) then you will roam on Verizon's network for free. The only catch is if you roam more than 50% for two consecutive months Sprint might give you 30 days notice to disconnect your service and give you the option of porting to another carrier ETF free. If you get no service in the US, than you are in an area not serviced by Sprint OR Verizon.

The Palm Pre was a good OS on a horrid piece of hardware. There will never be an iPhone killer. The iPhone is a great piece of hardware with a polished user friendly OS. But there will be an Army of Android devices that will take market share. The only way for apple to avoid this is to open up to numerous carriers.

Think about it: the number 1, 2, 3, and 4 carriers in this country will all have great Android devices by the end of this year. 1, 3, and 4 will mostly sell smart phone androids and Clearwire will also getting into the phone business with other 4G android device.

The only way for iPhone to keep market share is to open up to more carriers.

good point.

To the gentleman in Columbus, I respect your experience, but the two Iphone friends I have differ. Their service is okay, but they do suffer from missed calls alot, and in Columbus it is a step down from Sprint.

I have more than a few friends with iPhones, and I owned the 3G and the 3GS myself before moving. AT&T had the following quirky problems in my area and still does.

-I'll call my friend on AT&T and it'll ring for a good 40 seconds or so. When I mention it, they claim their phone only rang once. When I had the iPhone I would sometimes test this calling from my work phone at the office and I was able to reproduce this problem more than once. I'm sure most people aren't patient enough to wait 40 seconds, unknown missed calls.

-I'll be relaxing at home or busy working, not doing anything phone related, as it'll just be sitting on my coffee table or laying on my desk at work. Bam, voicemail notification. No missed calls nor would I hear the phone ring.

-3G deadspots all over the place. Classroom? No 3G. Mall? No 3G. Coverage map online shows my area saturated in 3G. It's like AT&T only upgrades half of the towers to 3G so they can claim a market as 3G for their commercials.

-Delayed SMS messages and missing MMS messages. I decided to drop the iPhone the day a lady friend of mine sent me a "fun" MMS I apparently never got, and I missed out on visiting with her that night. Me not getting messages either SMS or MMS has happened more than once.

-Finally, dropped calls. I'd drop calls with a full 3G signal while sitting in my living room talking to my parents. That just flat out shouldn't happen, much less as often as it was happening.

WOW! I have had these EXACT same issues! My wife has an iPhone as well and a lot of times I can't get pics she has sent me. * not dirty pics you pervs * but pics of crap she needs me to buy at the grocery store. Look im not real good with female product needs okay?!?! Anyway, it's horrible. We can hardly use MMS. I get voicemails with no calls. I have had people swear they called me 3-4 times and I never got the call or missed call. My phone was on with full bars at the time. I got mad thinking they never called me. The other night I tried calling someone 3 times and everytime they would pick up but no audio...Couldn't turn the speaker phone off. I called an 800 number shortly after and discovered it was happening with all my calls. I had to reboot my phone. This has happened twice to me. Talked to the person the next day and they said the phone rang once and when they answered the call ended.

I love my iPhone but at times.... I think it's a bad phone to be in a emergency with.

I think some of the issues are the carrier and some are the phone. I also think quite a bit of "software" issues that arise - are from those that JAILBREAK. People don't realize when you JB, you are running custom stuff and the people who make it don't really care about little things that just might cause problems.

Get rid of JB and go back to stock and then complain about software issues. Until then, why bother even mentioning it.

It's like running your gasoline car on diesel and wondering why it's running like 2h!t. Hmm.. I wonder.

I rarely have an issue. No more/less than Verizon.

Um...I really don't think your jailbreak comparison is valid. I have been jailbroken for three years across the entire iPhone lineup and have had zero problems with AT&T. It's more of a coverage problem than it is with the software. A properly jailbroken phone won't experience the issues you describe.

Those who have issues and are jailbroken probably should have avoided it to begin with. They often don't know what they are doing and neglect to properly research the process before they jump in.

i'm going to say blame your carrier rather than the phone or jailbreaking. just look at all the people that complain about issues with their iphones on any number of forums. they're always in the US. i've never had a dropped call, never had a missed call not ring, a missed call not show up, a voicemail without the phone ringing, missed mms's etc etc etc etc etc etc with my 3g or 3gs... in fact the only problem i get with regards to ringing/notifications is the bug that most people seem to get with sms alerts not making a sound sometimes, and that seems pretty common for everyone everywhere.

as someone from the other side of " the pond" it always seems to me that it's not the phone/jailbreak/user but the carrier.

I dunno. I think it's pretty valid. I also don't think JBers get to complain either. Some of their problems ARE RELATED to JB. Go view some of the comments in the App store from the JBers that are not smart enough to realize that their JB IS causing the problem.

I would agree with you if you were not wrong. One phone jailbroken another not, same problems either way. Since im sure I live in an area different than the Texan, I don't think it is my special area either.

and it will fail just like the Pre. ;)

Oh and we will get 30 billion threads from sprint people asking why the EVO can't be used on SERO or whatever the hell that super cheap plan is.

its not gonna sell a million in a weekend like an iphone, but it will do nice numbers

sprints offering 100 dollars if you switch from a different carrier to get the evo
