You guys take this fanboy crap to the extreme. Neither phone is perfect so all of you need to get off your Apple and Android high horse. Let me know when that perfect phone gets released because NO phone is perfect. You nerds need to get out and get some air instead of arguing over small things. Also some of these things the android fanboys say are right. The android phones can do everything an Iphone can do plus more.

You don't get to say that. Go read your past posts fanboi.

Irony much?

read my posts and point me to my fanboy ways. Don't mistake me for the other Apollo. Also just because I don't downplay competitors phones don't make me a fanboy...it makes me level headed and not so bias like so many of you.

iPhone 4 or Evo .... ?

I'm debating on which one to get. The Evo seems to have more to offer as far as functionality. But I'm interested in seeing the new Iphone features. Mobile hot spot and 4 g in my city is tempting. Also camera. Can the Iphone do mobile hotspot? Someone also told me this is the first iPhone with wallpapers for the home screen. Is this true? This will be my first iphone but I can't wait for simple technology to be spoon fed to me alittle at a time. What can the iphone do that the evo can't. Thanks. Also heard the casing is like glass and breaks easy is this true.

Denial.
Justification.

Key signs of a fanboi. :p

I'm messing with ya dude. I could care less. People get too worked up over technology these days. Nobody can ever be happy with what they have. They always have to have the best, biggest, fastest, coolest or whatever.

Personally, I don't care :)

Is that you and your daughter in your avatar? I had to ask.

Wife. Kindergarten teacher. She'll be very pleased when I tell her! :) Our daughter is only seven.

Now I do agree with you, android seems a lot more viable for a tablet. I do think apple did a good just along with the app devs for making the iPad quite functional. It could be more though.

Aye, it could be so much more, especially if it's really intended to be a computer for non-computer folk.

Sending my 85 year old mother an iPad, and explaining to her remotely how to use it, has been a real eye opener. (It's her first computer ever.)

All of us here take a lot for granted since we know how the iOS UI works. Still, I knew in advance that some UI behaviors would puzzle her. I just didn't count on how much of it would :)

For instance, just think about what happens if you hold a finger on an icon a second too long. Yeah. When she told me the iPad was "vibrating" and not launching apps, I was thinking she meant actually vibrating like an iPhone at first. It took me a full minute to realize she meant the icons were wiggling.

I've always hated secret UI actions like that. At the least, continue to pop up a description + help message each time until the owner turns that help off deliberately.

The iphone does allow tethering, but not without a monthly fee. It also doesn't create a wifi network like the EVO does. This can only be accomplished by jailbreaking (hacking the phone to run software not through the app store).

Android and iOS are very different beasts each with the strengths and weaknesses and there are probably a ton of articles on the web that could explain it better than anyone here.

In terms of hardware, Apple and companies that implement android seem to be trending in different directions. The Evo has a huge screen but its also a huge phone that doesn't get good battery life. With the iphone 4, apple actually made the phone smaller, while making the battery bigger at the sacrafise of not being able to make the screen bigger (although they did increase the resolution).

If you can wait until the iPhone is released, engadget plans on doing a thorough comparison of the two phones with pictures that will probably do a better job explaining it than anyone else.

get the iphone, i had a 3gs up until 2 weeks ago, swapped for an evo and I HATE IT. the keyboard is so sluggish and inaccurate. the browser is horrid, the battery life is lasting me MAYBE 4 hours. i regret getting the EVO. thank goodness i have the iphone 4 on preorder and i can return the evo.

Same here, got the EVO and returned it the same week, battery would last me 6 hours max with minimal use and that is disabling everything on the phone. The phone was nice but the battery life is atrocious

EVO, large screen, though there are reports of it lifting off. Battery life is poor, and depending on where you live, sprint coverage may be an issue.

iPhone 4 - smaller screen but from reports, a crisper display. A4 CPU will probably mean a faster phone then the EVO. If apple isn't exaggerating, then the battery life will far outstrip what the EVO is capable.

Personally, I prefer the android platform, but comparing the two phones, the iPhone does seem to come out ahead when you factor in the questionable quality, poor battery and possible coverage issues.

The EVO is an awesome phone, don't let any fanboys tell you otherwise. I am just an indiscriminate geek. I will be picking the iPhone 4 up at 7am on release day and promptly shooting a comparison video. I do not have any dogs in this fight, so let the best phone win. But this is still subjective to user experience.

As far as some of the comments made. My EVO has 20% battery life left after 12 hours of normal use. More than enough for the average user, but I do suspect the iPhone can achieve more.

The browser is fast, if you search YouTube you will see my video of the Evo edging out my iPad in browsing speed.

The new iPhone looks great and I expect the comparison to be interesting, but no matter which phone you go with, it will be one of the best phones on the planet.

I'm curious about the "not as polished" claims. What do they mean? I'd like someone to give concrete examples between apps.

When an iphone user says "more polished" he means "less laggy" and "not as responsive" which in reality is the difference between android's animation and scrolling elements running at 30fps vs 60fps for iphone.

This claim is in fact true, but that's about the only thing ios has over over android.

Well once you start being able to go on flash sites, multitask, get every notification from your drop down bar, running 4G and start customizing your phone any way you want, it will feel like a whole new world opened up. Believe me, there is ZERO you can do on your iPhone that you cant do on an Evo, and I do mean zero.

You know, except scroll smoothly. I still have my Nexus One. It still doesn't scroll smoothly. Did you see that guy's review who you called an Apple fanboy? Sure, he doesn't back up ALL his claims with video evidence, but he has direct phone to phone comparisons in terms of scrolling and navigating, and, surprise, the EVO lags to all hell, like all other Android phones I've used.

Your a lucky man. You look older because of the mustache. Still she looks like she's 15. Goods genes! If you don't own guns get them now, for your daughter. I have the same problem with my wife. XD I'm waiting to be stopped at the mall for kidnaping.

I wouldn't expect an 85 year old to be able to handle a advanced digital calculator let alone a tablet/computer. Still I would have loved to see her reaction to it. I bet she was blown away.

Ok, so the Evo doesnt scroll as smoothly as the iPhone, big deal. It does just about everything else better though and still does things the iPhone cannot without a jailbreak. Only other thing I would give the iPhone the edge in is music player, thats it. I will take a phone that doesnt scroll as smoothly but does flash, multitasking, great notification system, ability to tether, can run on 4G, file manager, fully customizable OS etc...over a phone that just scrolls prettier :)

That's cool that it works for you! However, the iPhone can tether (for free where I live!), iPhone multitasks and the iPhone has 200,000+ applications that provide me with everything I need. I also have HSPA+ in and everywhere around my area.

Different strokes for different folks!

The iPhone doesn't have HSPA+.

mbell: We know Android has all of those things. Just stop.

I just have to laugh at iPhone users getting 4-6 hours of battery life with their Evo. Just more proof they have no clue how to use a powerful OS like Android. Unlike an iPhone, if you remove the back cover of the Evo, guess what? The battery comes out and you can *gasp* replace it with a bigger one! OMG! I bet they never even knew what settings to play around with because I get a solid 10-12 hours out of the very same battery and so do plenty of others. If you dont know how to use an Android device, you should probably stick to the very basic iPhone OS, pretty idiot proof.

seeing as how you are asking this question on iPhone forums...i dont think you can expect anyone to tell you Evo

And alas, this is the difference between Apple's philosophy and others'

Others: We'll throw in every feature and all the greatest specs, even if the experience suffers a bit.
Apple: We will only include the most widely popular features, and optimize them so that the experience is rock-solid each and every time.

The majority of the features you just mentioned mean exactly zero to the overwhelming majority of those in the market for a smart phone. Most Android users like the following: it is different than iOS, the home screen is more functional than iPhone lockscreen, and easy access to things like facebook, Twitter, etc.

I will re-iterate though, Please enjoy your EVO/Android phones. I would use them if there wasn't an Apple iPhone. But, the 'amazing' specs and customization they showcase just don't appeal to the masses as much as a polished UI that is just easy to operate and just works.

I would choose the iPhone 4. I don't count myself as biased as I currently own an Android device. Android is not as "powerful" as some believe. I think that iOS is much more elegant and well designed compared to Android OS. It's also easier to manage and view multimedia. iTunes makes it so much easier to add songs, videos, etc. iOS also has folders which I don't think Android does. And while you can switch batteries on Android devices, you need to shell out more money for an extra battery and keep it with you. Not the most convenient idea. The iPhone 4 records better video than the Evo, because the Evo has horrible compression and poor audio. iPhone 4 also records at 30 fps compared to the Evo's 24 fps. And, the UI of iOS is much more pleasant than Android. Not to mention build quality of iPhones trump any Android device.

File manager...

wow can't believe people want to mess with a file manager.

I guess next gen Android phones will feature command line prompts too?

Do you honestly think that "iPhone users" are incapable of using the almighty Android OS? Why don't you google EVO 4G issues. You'll find article after article and post after post about how the battery life is a huge issue.

I love it how HTC decided to stuff everything into this beast other than the bathroom sink so it can be hailed as the best phone on the market and now the battery life is garbage because of it. Maybe they should release a tutorial on how to download "task managers" and turn off the HUGE 4G feature in order to achieve more than 6 hours of battery life. Seems kind of pointless to have to turn off the key feature on the phone in order to make it work longer than 4 hours.

If you're so knowledgeable and above iPhone users in that you use Android, then why don't you teach us the ways of the superior OS. What tricks of the trade to we need to learn in order to use this device properly? Are they teaching classes on the subject?
