Sorry, but you don't have a clue. You think because you try the EVO for a few minutes you understand it? Not a chance. The EVO is %100 responsive.

I agree. Most people here criticizing the Evo and Android have either A) never even used one or B) played with one for a few minutes. Neither works. Its much more in depth than the iPhone OS and more to learn. I wouldnt ever criticize the iPhone OS without knowing it, but because I use it daily, I think I know it pretty well. 4.0 should be a great OS for sure, we'll see.

Yes you can tell how responsive a phone is within a few minutes. You may get used to the unresponsiveness over time though if you keep using it.

I really had to laugh at your comment.

No, you can't. Not when you don't understand the phone or how Android works in the first place. Most Apple Fanbois forget the learning curve that was required for the iPhone when it first came out. I know it took me time to adjust to it. Android is an emerging mobile system. Of course it's not perfect. Nothing is. But it's part of a new frontier. I'm totally in love with my EVO and Android. Because I gave it a chance.

Maybe you should, too.

Responsiveness has nothing to do with a learning curve. Responsive != Intuitive

I haven't touched an EVO yet, I'm waiting for mine to be delivered, but I have no reason to think that this guy is lying. If he notices it lagging behind his finger, he's probably right. There are some units out there with significant lag. It's far from all the units though, but there are some bad eggs and that's probably what was noticed. Hopefully mine is delayed enough that it's cleared up, but not delayed too much :p

Also, Apple users are NOTORIOUSLY attentive to minor details. I'm sure if TheSpaz where here he'd be all about .001ms of lag. ;)

I never even insinuated he was lying. But you don't know what was done to the phone before he picked it up. That's why I mentioned LEARNING the OS before dismissing it. If you don't know what you're doing there are a myriad ways to bring Android to it's knees. I've done it on my EVO. Like I said, it's a learning curve. And I'm having lots of fun learning it.

If you're not familiar with Android I suggest hanging out in the Android forums. There's a treasure trove of seriously useful info over there.

Good luck with your EVO. You're gonna love it.

He's not dismissing it; he's saying it's not nearly as smooth as the iPhone in terms of scrolling, zooming, and panning around. As a Nexus One owner, I completely agree with his assessment.

Just a heads up for anyone looking for an Evo. Some Best Buys are reporting they have some in stock people never picked up from the 2nd shipment. Sprint is now saying 6-14 weeks if you order one.

AH, but not all hardware is the same. People seem to think they are dealing with an Apple situation on the other end when there are in reality many many different pieces of hardware running Android giving you just as many possible different outcomes on speed and responsiveness (among other things).

YMMV were never truer words spoken. For instance, I had a HORRIBLE demo at Best Buy. They had gunked up the phone with screen protectors on it and it made the screen feel horrible and mushy. The demo unit was a mess frankly. Now some would see that and think that all Android phones were that way, when in truth, they are not.

You order a phone you have never used before? A bit risky but I am assuming you know Android.

I know, I did the same with the iPhone 3G though. :p I am familiar with Android though. I haven't owned an Android phone but I plan on using it for development too. All in all, I'm really excited and not worried. If mine has problems I'll send it back and get a new one.

Very true, but if you want to use that as an example, people are saying the EVO is less responsive than the Nexus One. Although that's likely due to Sense UI, which I wouldn't trade. :) Since the EVO is rooted already there are plain ol' Android ROMS to use. :)

Thank you to everyone that understands what I am saying about the responsiveness. I did not know that it was a few certain devices because I've only used one Evo and one Droid. The droid has the same issue but that is older hardware so I can understand that (even though it was running Froyo). Neither of them were demo models, just so you all know. I have friends that own both and I have restarted them before using them to clear up any junk they might have been running. It is by no means slow, it's just not AS quick as the iPhone when it comes to finger response times. Still far better then any other phone I've used before the iPhone though. I'm not pulling a TheSpaz here either. It's not like I had to video record it with a high speed camera to tell the difference. It is very noticeable the second I tried the device. Again, not a big deal to some, but to me it was. I'm sure it's something you get used to after owning the device anyways.

To the couple of you that are taking my posts as insults, I want you to know that I'm not insulting you or the Android OS. Android has come a long way in a very short period of time and it's very impressive. I'm sure it has been pushing Apple to bring out new features quicker too, which is benetifial to everyone. I can't even imagine where Android will be a year from now. I hope they focus on refining and speeding up the OS as opposed to bloating it up with new stuff. Froyo was supposed to be a big improvement, so I hope they keep going that direction.

I do like Android, but to me it still doesn't meet my needs like the iPhone does. I want my phone to be able to operate very well and very quickly and I want my apps completely refined with very little bugs or crashes. I do not need full power over the OS and I do not need to modify every little feature about my phone. I just want it to work at all times (battery) and I want it to do things very well. I have yet to come across a time where there was something that I had to do, where I couldn't do it on my iPhone.

I'm sure some day I will make the switch to Android, but that day isn't here yet. Maybe next year if Apple doesn't continue to make big strides?

I too am making the switch to EVO. My wife and I have been using the iPhone since it first came out. I am sure there will be things about the EVO that will be really cool, but I am also prepared for "hey, how com I can't do that on my EVO - I could do it on my iPhone?"

I will fully test the EVO throughout the 30 day grace period and decide then whether to revert back to the iPhone. But, the Sprint plan includes way more than AT&T for the same money, and the Sprint signal in my area is way, way better.

My brother made the switch last week and claims "no regrets". We shall see.

Cover me - I'm going' in...

This is very odd to me. You dont want to be able to control your phone's OS or modify it? Thats like buying a TV and being cool with not being able to adjust the picture or sound quality. Thats like buying a computer and not being able to access the hard drive to manage and run it the way you want it to. I guess some people are just happy to have a phone that runs like everyone else's and if there is something they dont like they just live with it. Not me.

Found a great review that points out how laggy the evo is and shows it compared to the iPhone.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WenAs_8IZXM

Thats not a great review at all. That guy is a pure Apple fanboy...

His homescreen lag argument is stupid. I posted a video with my Evo zipping right thru all my home screens here. It is also easily and completely fixed with Launcherpro which has no lag whatsoever if you really feel the need.

As for a virus's and malware. That is why ratings exist for every app.

He talks about people stealing information on android. I guess he never heard of the huge iPAD data leak. Seems iPhone OS is easily hacked and your data can be stolen http://www.pcworld.com/businesscent..._3g_leak_flaw_more_common_than_you_think.html

His point about flash being so slow is becuase he is using flash lite not flash 10.1 which is much faster and hardware exceleration hasn't been implimented yet. Again, the video I posted here showed me running heavy flash sites just fine.

His reseouce argument regarding multi tasking just shows that he knows absolutely nothing about how android manages resources automatically.

I just watched the first part of that video and it shows exactly what I was talking about regarding the delayed response time compared to the iPhone. That and the battery life are my ONLY complaints with Android. If they can fix those issues I'd gladly try out an Android device.

I smell a nasty fanboi.

He was spot on in his review. Problem is, you have Android lovers that can't see past their own nose. Same goes for Apple lovers. In this case, his points are just.

I have used Android devices and they LAG. The screen/touch does NOT keep up with your finger. It's just enough to agitate you, especially when coming from an iPhone. He is also correct on the Android market place. An open system is good, but it has it's flaws. Les anyone forget the app that was uploaded to the Android market place that harvested customer credit cards/bank account info. Everyone remember that? Last I recall, Apple has not had that issue.

Each platform has it's quirks. Android more so than Apple. I feel comfortable saying that. Those that disagree well, that's your opinion. I don't need to bullet list everything like the Android people do. I don't need to grasp for straws either.

Seek and you shall find - all on your own with no help from anyone else :)

Yes, I'd rather have an OS that does everything Id like then to be able to modify an OS I don't like. On top of that, if I did want to modify my OS I could jailbreak my iPhone.

No, I do not need to go in and modify my picture settings on my tv if it already comes pretuned and optimized.

Comparing it to a desktop that can't access the hard drive is an absurd comparison and I won't even touch on that topic.

Hes a fanboy. Notice how none of his claims are backed up by video? He says Break.com does NOT work on an Evo, bullsh*t. I can post a video of my Evo running break right now. In fact, I think I will make a video proving all his claims are BS and hes just a bitter fanboy :)

You might be right about the fanboy stuff, but the point about the lag is dead on. I experienced it first hand and saw it in your video. I mean it isn't the end of the world but it does bother some people. Is it a great phone? Yeah, but it doesn't function as smooth in it's most important function, touchscreen.

I have to know - what super duper thing can your phone do that makes it just THAT MUCH BETTER? Honestly? Who gives a ****. If it makes you happy, that's all that matters right - RIGHT? I guess not since you are complaining here. Perhaps in reality, you're not happy at all?

Lol.

I keep hearing this from people and don't understand it. I like my iPhone. It WORKS for me - every single time I pick it up. I don't have to worry about customizing or doing **** to it that I will never use. Example - widgets. I don't need widgets. I also don't need a chintzy windshield wiper on my screen telling me it's freaking raining.

I LOVE how my iPhone JUST WORKS! I LOVE how I can just plug it in and it Syncs EVERYTHING on it to my computer (windows btw). No fuss, no muss. I don't have to worry about the next firmware update or any other BS from my carrier. I also don't have to worry about the next update - whether it be called fruitcake, brownie, streusel or whatever other happy horse **** they name it. Nope. No worries there.

Again, it just works. Ask me the same question 3 years ago when I was an Apple hater and my opinion might have been different. However after owning the 3G the 3GS and on my way to the 4, I have no complaints. I lie, I have a couple of minor things but they are minuscule. NOTHING that would make me switch at this point. I love my phone.

So - in the end - like I said before, it honestly sounds like YOU are unhappy. It seems Android owners are ALWAYS looking to justify their existence in some form or fashion. Pretty sad.

Oddly, I thought his video showed the 3GS lagging behind as well. Nothing on either device exactly followed his fingers. My Incredible seems faster than either one.

I'm curious about the "not as polished" claims. What do they mean? I'd like someone to give concrete examples between apps.

Interestingly, when I first fired up the iPad, I was thinking how iOS didn't seem as well thought out as Android at times:

Often I was wishing for a central menu button instead of all those little unlabeled icons that iOS apps often scatter around the screen. And a Back button would help with not having to slide my hand so far and block the screen to click the usual upper-left iOS equivalent.

Well once you start being able to go on flash sites, multitask, get every notification from your drop down bar, running 4G and start customizing your phone any way you want, it will feel like a whole new world opened up. Believe me, there is ZERO you can do on your iPhone that you cant do on an Evo, and I do mean zero. So you wont be asking yourself that at all really :)

Is that you and your daughter in your avatar? I had to ask.

Now I do agree with you, android seems a lot more viable for a tablet. I do think apple did a good just along with the app devs for making the iPad quite functional. It could be more though.
