( I couldn't help but notice news stories about some ppl having to charge their Evo 2x per day due to abysmal battery life lol)

Gotta love Android noobs with no clue what they are doing. Most Evo owners crying about battery life had no clue their Facebook, Twitter and Flickr accounts were set to update every 2 hours  Just changing it to once a day will save you alot of battery right there. Not to mention people with no clue their weather widgets, wifi, BT and other stuff sucks up battery life too....I get 10-12 hours with pretty decent use on the stock battery and 15-20 with my 1800mah extended battery.

I just recorded myself doing it. I cleared all apps to make sure the memory was free and I get even more choppiness then yours (although it's been better than i usually). I can clear tell and the reformatting of text IS annoying. For the android being all and powerful, can't you turn that off? I found that rather ironic that you can do everything to the phone but that.

I uploaded a video to youtube (i've never done this before so when its ready, i'll post it)

edit:
here you go: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5aGslw2lsWM

I used dolphin because to be honest...i don't know how to use the android default....everytime i press internet, it picks the dolphin HD. I personally don't care either way too much. I like the android OS as much as the Iphone (it's ppprreeetttyyy) and other than the battery life (it fits alot of my needs, wish sprints data rate was faster in 3g) but Sorry that I'm anal, but i can see a difference. This seems to be a software issue, not the hardware but we all knew that.

Dude, look at that awful checker boarding when you are pinching and zooming with your iPhone at the 5:31 mark and on! Its only showing text and graphics in that tiny little box, the rest is all checker boards! The Evo keeps displaying ALL the text and graphics on the page. Of course the iPhone is going to be smoother, its dropping all that text and graphics off the page LOL. Sorry but I would rather put up with a bit of stutter rather than having the whole screen go to crap when I pinch and zoom, but I dont even get what you do.

Dude you're just as hard headed as ever...

Apple Pro's

Better OS updates and polished
Better display
Better camera/video
Better multi-touch GUI
Better battery life
Better construction
Better video chat (front/rear camera are OPEN API...skype, AIM, Beejive soon)
Better Cortex chip due to A4
etc etc

These are just top of my head. And there you go again with the ram. Stop being a typical fanboy...

BOTH OS's are great. You're spreading more OPINIONS than anything...

Edit: I give up. This thread turned pointless. Nothing but fanboys trying to defend THEIR purchases but can't accept OTHER'S for what they purchased. Grow up people...

Props to you for seeing where this was going early on. He's trying really, REALLY hard to justify his purchase. It makes quite the entertaining read at work.

lol. you're just as bad as the guy you were arguing with. how does the iphone 4 have a "better display"? do you mean resolution? because i would rather have a bigger screen than slightly higher resolution.

I didn't say it wasn't doing something, but it certainly is in no way as smooth as the iPhone pinching and zooming. You can explain it any way you want, but the complaint was that it is choppy and it certainly is.

Yea, of course it's seems choppier, as usual Apple chose form over function. Whats the point of being able to zoom in if you have to consistently move the screen back and forth to read it. Once you zoom in, the Evo moves just as fast, if not faster as the iPhone. Either way, webpages can be read faster and more effeciently/pleasantly on the Evo. Thats worth the sacrifice of a split second delay on the pinch to zoom imo. But it all comes down to preference. If you prefer a slower, more laborious browsing experience, that looks a little prettier, then the iPhone is for you.

+1

Why does it matter that you can pinch to zoom quickly if you can't see 75% of the screen? Apple does a good job at hiding their product's imperfections, but if you know that they're there, then it's painfully obvious. Looks fast, but in reality it's just another example of function sacrificed for a pretty looking user interface. In the end, it always comes down to preference.

Dude. the checkerboards last 1 second and you are zooming, because you are reading WHILE its zooming. I don't get how people are so annoyed with checkerboards, it literally goes away in a blink of an eye.

The pinch and zoom (for me atleast showed considerable choppiness). I did it the different speeds to show that zoom can't keep up with my finger but the iOS can. The multitouch was laggy and you can see something was running the background causing my zoom to be laggy.

There are times when its SMOOTHER but seriously, put the two next to each other and the iphone pitch and zoom wins hands down. Also, google maps, you can see how i was pitching on direction and it was sometimes drastically changing. when i move slower, it works BUT!! it doesn't keep the zoom spot I choose, it moves 1 up or 1 down. Constantly changing the map's resolution. Google Maps is a good spot to show how spotty the multi-touch really is. I got so annoyed with it i just used double tap and the zoom buttons on the bottom. I can clearly see they are using a different method of pinch and zoom compared to apple.

The other comparison was for people who actually think EVO is smoother than ipad. It's not even close and the i was able to zoom in and out with such finer precision that android phones dream of. it wasn't even close.

When you come from an iphone for 3 years (who actually uses pitch and zoom)...you will notice alot of things. And it's not like this is a secret, its been said over and over and over and people's reactions at first are "its not smoother". Alot of people are trying to think its just as smooth (it's whatever the eye can see). I even gave my two phones to 2 people who don't even have smart phones and it wasn't even close. The first thing they pointed out was that the iphone 3gs was alot smoother and they are frankily turned off by the EVO because of that.

It's framerates and i can clearly tell ...just like i can clear see a difference between 24fps and 30 fps.

Dude...every 2 hours is only updating 12 times a day. You are telling me that small amount of data...is draining the phone? I can do that on my iphone...MANUALLY 2 hours a day.

Another neat little trick Apple have employed when pinch zooming is the way it isn't rendered clearly until you reach the desired resolution.

On Android the font is rendered correctly at each zoom level with no blurryness.

Examples:
ipod1.jpg

iPod zoomed in with blurry text.
ipod2.jpg

Once you let go, the text is renedered and becomes clear.

On my N1 the text is reable through every level of zoom which probably leads to more CPU usage which in turn makes things less smooth on Android:
Nexus1.jpg

N1 zoomed out.
Nexus2.jpg

N1 zoomed in.

As for what one is better, it's all down to personal taste really and I can't ever disagree with someone else's tastes.

Agreed. I will also take the way the Evo auto reformats the text as well over the iPhone.

If I turned off every single radio on my iPhone I could get it to last weeks. I don't buy a phone that has all these bonus features if I plan on turning them all off just so I can almost make it through a whole day. Enjoy your android but it's not right for me and the majority of people here. It is an iPhone forum after all, so maybe it's time to make the switch to an android forum?

The android OS has a split second response lag throughout the entire OS and that is why I would never give up an iPhone for it. Hold your finger down on the screen and move your finger back and forth pretty fast and you will see that the screen won't move with your finger and it will always be a split second behind. The screen will still be scrolling up by the time your telling it to scroll down.

I will gladly give up that split second lag time to have my text auto reformatted and not see 80% of my screen turn into a checker board while I zoom in and out. You will notice in his video at 5:43 and 5:51 the iPhone stutters for a good second to get all the info back onto the screen again. Sorry, I dont consider huge checker boards, most the website disappearing for a second and having to swipe all around just to read zoomed in text a better browsing experience.

The only time my phone checkerboards is when the page is still loading and im scrolling around. I can't view the video because YouTube is blocked at my work so I'm not sure if that is the case in that video.

Browsing on the iPhone is way better then on my roommates Evo. Again, it comes down to the screen responsiveness. When I scroll my finger left, I want it to go left, not stay still for a split second and then go left. I don't want to have to pick up my finger and wait for the phone to respond before I make another movement.

Either way, it's pointless to argue with you because it's obvious you will fight for the Evo to your death. My only advice to you is to enjoy your phone and try going somewhere that others enjoy the same phone as you (Android forums...yes, they do exist). All your doing here is starting never ending arguments that all come down to personal preference. I like my phone to just work, work well and get me through an entire day no matter how much I use it. The iPhone does that for me.

Dude, just watch that video. I mean, I don't see any lag there and I haven't experience any on mine. My iPod touch and Evo both browse really well and are very responsive to the touch. I mean, if you wanna have an objective debate, just watch that and please show me where the Evo doesn't hold up to the iPhone. These blanket statements about android are often baseless. As soon as a phone comes along that's as good, if not better, than any iPhone, people start getting all crazy. Yea, it all comes down to personal preference, but blatantly making things up to support your personal preference is silly.

Nothing I said is made up. Everything I said was from personal first hand experience, not some YouTube video. I was looking into the Evo instead of the iPhone 4 until I actually tried one myself. One of my friends has a Droid and can't believe how unresponsive that thing is. I heard the Evo is "SO FAST" so I figured that meant it was more responsive, but I was wrong. Is it fast? Yes. Is it responsive? No.

I love my Evo, but I also loved my 3GS. I will be picking the iPhone 4 up on Friday at 7am and then I plan to video the phones in a battle royal. I will post the link here and on the android forums. I will stick with the best phone period, no bias. May the best phone win.

Sorry, that was a little harsh, I wasn't trying to call you a liar. It's just that people go to the store, try a demo phone out that's been molested by people all day and that's usually not the experience you'll have. Tho that's sprint's fault, not yours. And for that reason, sometiems watching a youtube video can actually provide a clearer picture than playing with a demo. All I know, is that from owning devices that run both both iOS and Android, both are very responsive. I'm more than happy with iOS on my iPod, but I'd prefer my phone to be able to do a little bit more than what the iPhone allows, but both are great devices.

No problem. These discussions usually get a little heated anyways. I'm just speaking my opinion about why I prefer the iOS over Android. My friend that has an Evo came from a iphone 3g and prefers Android now, so as you can tell people have different priorities and different necessities out of their phones. However, I don't like when anybody blindly follows Apple or blindly follows Android because that's when this thread in particular gets out of control.

Well the sad thing is, I bought an iPad and I end up using my Evo (and used my Hero) more. Why? I want the ability to do more than ONE thing at a time  On my iPad, if I want to have an IM client running right, I have to use the IM+ app and its God awful built in browser. My iPad is only good for just surfing the net basically or just playing a game or just watching a movie etc...If all you ever used was an iPhone, you are used to this very limited world. I am used to multitasking though, so I end up using my Evo more. Hope iOS4 on my iPad is MUCH better than 3.2

It will be. Just wait until Fall. ;)

You're willing to make all these claims about rooting the phone and wouldn't jailbreak your iPad?

Something that takes a few seconds to do? Then install circuitous and backgrounder and have the experience you want?

The excuses just keep mounting up. Can't wait for the reply "I shouldn't have to jailbreak."

Your rationale is astounding, and not in a good way.

I shouldnt have to JB to do all the things my Evo can do out of the box :p

Some people get off on trolling forums. Not sure why, but they do. There's always a few on every forum.

Sorry, but you don't have a clue. You think because you try the EVO for a few minutes you understand it? Not a chance. The EVO is %100 responsive.
