To me the most disappointing thing about the Android phones is the battery life. There is just no way around this. It is not a deal breaker for me, but it is definitely something that you have to tolerate.

I have played around with the Incredible for a little while, sorry not EVO. I found the Android OS to be very useful and powerful. In the end I like the iphone user face better.

If you can overlook a few short comings then iphone is very attractive.

Do you honestly think that "iPhone users" are incapable of using the almighty Android OS? Why don't you google EVO 4G issues. You'll find article after article and post after post about how the battery life is a huge issue.

I love it how HTC decided to stuff everything into this beast other than the bathroom sink so it can be hailed as the best phone on the market and now the battery life is garbage because of it. Maybe they should release a tutorial on how to download "task managers" and turn off the HUGE 4G feature in order to achieve more than 6 hours of battery life. Seems kind of pointless to have to turn off the key feature on the phone in order to make it work longer than 4 hours.

If you're so knowledgeable and above iPhone users in that you use Android, then why don't you teach us the ways of the superior OS. What tricks of the trade to we need to learn in order to use this device properly? Are they teaching classes on the subject?

You really shouldn't respond to that guy. If you look up all his last few pages of post, you can see he/she does nothing but trash the iphone while pushing his crappy EVO on us. I have just learned to ignore his post.

I have an EVO. I hate it because.....

- terrible keyboard
- awful exchange email client
- picture and video quality is poor
- app quality is a step down from the iPhone
- I have to pay for 4g service, though there is none available in my area

I just have to laugh at iPhone users getting 4-6 hours of battery life with their Evo. Just more proof they have no clue how to use a powerful OS like Android. Unlike an iPhone, if you remove the back cover of the Evo, guess what? The battery comes out and you can *gasp* replace it with a bigger one! OMG! I bet they never even knew what settings to play around with because I get a solid 10-12 hours out of the very same battery and so do plenty of others. If you dont know how to use an Android device, you should probably stick to the very basic iPhone OS, pretty idiot proof.

Your act is getting old.

You dont need a task killer with Android unless you have an app that refuses to close and you need to force close it. If you cant figure out how to turn 4G off, you really shouldnt be using a smartphone, it comes pre installed on one of the homescreens and you just push the button to shut it off  Turning off wifi, BT, GPS, auto updating weather and location widgets and changing it so apps like facebook, twitter and others only update once a day and not every 2 hours as they are defaulted to is also a nice start. As I said, Anyone getting only 4-6 hours on their battery did not do most or any of these things.

Yeah great. So I now need to carry around an additional battery to go along with my gigantic cellphone. No thanks.

I don't even have to do this on my computers. Mac, PC or Linux. And I have to do this on my phone? Android sucks. iPhone, Nokia and RIM FTW.

Are you kidding me? So you want people to turn off the main feature of the phone, the big advantage it has over other phones, the 4G? That's almost like telling people to buy a macintosh to run Windows. You bought the mac to run mac, not windows.

On top of that, I can see why you don't always need wifi (though from what I understand wifi uses less battery than 3G/4G so if you are using it instead you'd save battery) or blue tooth, one of the big reasons the iphone (and other recent smartphones) are so nice is because of integration of the GPS with the internet and phone. There are so many nifty apps that take advantage of knowing where you are you lose a lot of functionality of the phone and why it is so easily useful by turning off GPS (Looking up on the internet where something is and then getting directions, having it tell you where the nearest hteater to you is that is playing the movie you want, telling you what restaurants are nearby and how people rate them, telling you what other services are around you and being able to look up reviews or info on them online).

GPS with internet + phone is what makes smartphones so useful over even just a regular PDA with no GPS.

So you basically want people to turn off the functions that really make the phone useful in order to get that good battery life? Why even have a smartphone then?

Just get a regular cellphone (that still can access internet) that's cheaper and will make any smartphone look like a huge battery hog in comparison.

The vibe I got from your post was that you think I actually own an EVO 4G and actually need help turning off features. You see, I don't own an EVO and don't have the slightest bit of desire to own an EVO. It's entirely too big, I don't prefer the Android OS (I used to sell for T-mobile so I know how to use Android), and the battery life is terrible.

If I DID in fact own an EVO 4G, you can bet big money I wouldn't be hanging around in an iPhone forum on MACrumors.com boasting about how much better it is than the iPhone, and how iPhone users don't have the brains to use a phone that wouldn't even exist if the iPhone was never invented.

OP asked a simple, innocent question and in return the OP received a biased and rather rude answer. No bashing of anyone or any OS is needed. Only your own respectful thoughts on why you think Evo/iPhone is better.

Thanks

File manager...

wow can't believe people want to mess with a file manager.

I guess next gen Android phones will feature command line prompts too?

A file manager is invaluable when you can source apps and files from external sources.

Direct downloads of media/apps or documents are easily accessed by using a file manager and browsing to sdcard/Downloads.

It's also a good way to free up space when you're away from a computer. Try to free up space by deleting synced music/video from iTunes on an iPhone away from your computer..... :p

So to answer your question, yes there are people that want to "mess" with a file system.

Next up, terminal emulators on Android....

There is only one thing EVO has on iPhone and that is screen size.

Every other category belongs to iPhone from screen resolution to UI to apps to build quality to camera quality to support.

No contest -- if you want the best, get the iPhone.

iPhone and Evo 4G owner....

No task manager, Only thing turned on is WiFi at the moment. Auto updates, etc are whatever they are when the phone is purchased (I think every 2 hours)

get the iphone, i had a 3gs up until 2 weeks ago, swapped for an evo and I HATE IT. the keyboard is so sluggish and inaccurate. the browser is horrid, the battery life is lasting me MAYBE 4 hours. i regret getting the EVO. thank goodness i have the iphone 4 on preorder and i can return the evo.

I ahd a HTC windows phone beofe my Iphone 3G. It was like a swiss knife and did everything. Problem is, it didnt do one thing well. ***** battery life too. Worst phone i ever had. ANotehr buddy has a HTC and agrees it was teh worst phone he had. Best phne i ever had was my iphone 3G. Needless to say im gettign an Iphone 4 next.

Only one thing the Evo does better? Are you sure? How about...

4G
$10 for unlimited 4G data vs $15 for 200MB or $25 for 2GB
Powering 8 other devices as a mobile hotspot with the Evo (I use it to run my iPad on 4G :) )
Flash
Notifications bar
Multitasking
Speech to text in any input field
Live wallpapers and widgets
Expandable memory
Removable Battery
512MB RAM
Fully customizable OS to download different keyboards, dialers, homescreens etc...
Built in Google maps with navigation (free to use)

Shall I continue?

Did you not read my 2nd post? It basically sums up everything for you about how you look right now. You're in an iPhone forum trash talking iPhone's and talking up the EVO on the Sprint network. Why are you wasting your life away?

Please dont try to use logic with Apple fanboys who dont even have a clue how a real device works. All they know is what they are told they want and need by Steve Jobs and they only understand the most simplistic of operating systems. Rows of icons you push that launch one app at a time and a big shiny back button, thats it. Give them more than that and they will get confused and a file manager? Their heads would explode!

Nice try fandroid. Too bad iPhone 4 has half those things, the rest don't matter or have nothing to do with the phone (ex. 2 GB data).

Enjoy your obsolete phone.

1) I own an iPad, iMac and Macbook. So I am in here alot.

2) The OP asked which device we preferred genius. Its not like I just went into some random thread and started talking up the Evo

+9001

I'm getting the iPhone 4 and my friend just recently purchased the Evo. He likes his phone and I'm sure I'll enjoy mine since I've had the previous iPhones. Your best bet is to do what my friend was going to do. Take both the phones for a test drive or ask a friend if you can play with theirs. (chances are someone you know has one because they are both very popular)

Yeah you are here A LOT. And judging by your recent posts, most of them have to do with the EVO and how you feel it is the greatest thing since sliced bread. If the title for greatest smartphone were so cut and dry as you Android fans think it is, it would be obvious to everyone. There would be no need to comparisons from huge tech sites like Gizmodo and Engaget. No one would care about the iPhone and it wouldn't have sold out in one day.

Sure the EVO is a great phone and has some killer features, but some people prefer the iPhone OS. The overall USER EXPERIENCE means more than being able to tether 8 devices I don't have. I have wifi for that and I am knowledgeable to know that I can jailbreak my iPhone and create a hotspot if I need one. And what you don't realize is that most people don't need to hotspot wifi 4 gadgets at once while on the road. And thats when you'd use it, is on the road, because lets face it, everyone has wifi. And 4G, by the way, is just a huge marketing ploy right now. It's available in like 12 cities and if you did some research, you'd see that its spotty as h***.

To me, I go for the iphone 4. But yes I'm biased.

To me, iPhone just does the things I need better. What do I need for a phone to do? Email, web browsing, camera, texting, and the useful apps are just a + on the iPhone. I had a nexus one, and I seriously hated typing on it. I thought that iPhone 3gs took way better pictures than the nexus one (I dont' know maybe it's just my eyes), and I thought the quality of the build was not as high as the iPhone (the three buttons ont he bottom of the screen were part of the glass screen and it was annoying having to press on an exact spot, also when typing I would accindentally push the back button eventually making me go back). Multitasking, I don't even care for and I hope apple doesn't either since it's a phone, why do I need a multitasking device? I never understood why people wanted multitasking to begin with. Now, when I first heard of the evo 4g, I thought maybe this would do things better than my 3gs. With froyo on the way. And I was about to purchase the Evo until I realized, I had already have a overdrive 4g/3g hotspot device so 4g isn't a big deal for me, I have an iPad, and have had iPhones since day one and the investment I've made in the appstore is too much to ditch the system for. And the one and only big deal for the evo for me was the front facing camera, but I realized how many evo users am I going to know versus iPhone 4 owners. 90% of my friends have iphones and 60% of them are moving to iPhone 4 (those numbers are not accurate, but pretty close). To me, having an iPhone 4 will allow me to USE ALL THE FEATURES to the full extent rather than having a all out powerful android device that I'd use the features for maybe couple of things.

And to each their own, but design wise, no phone is even close to looking good and having the top notch quality as the iphone, just tear down the iphone and u can tell how much R&D went into it. Come on, the metal seams are also an antenna! loool!

But if you really want a phone that does everything where u can watch flash (altho I don't think hulu even works on mobile devices), multitask, overclocking, and customizable everything (altho I think customizing is really an unnesccessary feature), then u should get the Evo.

It's kinda like buying a car, u can get a >300HP mitsubishi evo that doesn't look as luxurious, but is a track beast. OR you can buy a Mercedes, slower might be a bit more expensive, but it does good at what it's suppose to do take you from point a to point b in style. Different people will go for different things, when I was younger maybe 2 years ago I would go for the mitsu evo..

I wish people would stop saying this, as this is the typical fanboi argument...

Back in the day, there was a time where people said people said text messaging didn't matter, internet on cellphones didn't matter, camera's/camcorders on phones didn't matter, MMS didn't matter, hell, cell phones didn't matter.

All the features that the Evo 4G has matter, just because they are not present on the iPhone 4, doesn't make them any less important in general. Just accept the fact that there are some things that the Evo 4G does better, and there are somethings that the iPhone 4 will do better.

If I were you OP, take Sprint up on there Money Back Guarantee, get an Evo 4G and an iPhone 4 (put them both on a credit card), Try them out for 30 days, then take back the one you don't want. That's what I'm doing.
