Mine just dropped when I received an email notification.
I used to have this issue; it’s subsided a few updates ago. Towards beginning of thread you can see my tyrant about such.
Mine just dropped when I received an email notification.
I’m done with this POS. Lost signal for like 20 seconds (not just a dropped call) in an area that always has 100% full signal. Not sure what I’m switching to, but I just can’t take it anymore.

I have put a SIM in from EE, who have better coverage here generally, and I can see the normal 1 bar 4G signal changing to 3G and quite frequently even to Edge. This shouldn’t be happening obviously, and in thinking about what Apple told me last time (expect a carrier update to fix the issue), I think this is codswallop. If it needed a carrier update, it would be affecting many more people, and I have run a beta 39.5.2 SIM update whilst this signal dipping is taking place.
I reckon it’s either that the device has a modem fault, or the new devices generally have a pi$$ weak modems. Therefore tonight, I will be telling them that I will be contacting Trading Standards with a view to either getting Apple to replace the handset, or getting my money back.
My argument to them is that they have either given me a faulty device that needs replacing, or their new devices have a worse modem than my 8+. If it’s the latter then I for sure want my money back. Especially given that it is a “Pro” device.I'm leaning towards it being a modem issue with the phone. Looking through the past updates, they've flashed the modem firmware several times, while I've only received a couple carrier updates. I know it's not the carrier in my area, I never had any issues with Verizon on my X - some data slowdown from time to time, but never multiple dropped calls each day or signal loss. I wonder how widespread the issue is - if it *was* a hardware issue I would think it would be on the front page. A quick Google search shows multiple threads across a few sites where people are reporting the same issue, so what we are experiencing is definitely not an isolated issue. Also, many people make quick, short phone calls or do not make many at all, while I am on the phone for hours each day. So, some people may never experience a dropped call or if they do it's not often - simply due to infrequent use, so they may say their phone is fine.
It's weird, my phone got much better for several days after one of the iOS updates, now it is back to being worse than ever. I would like to return the phone, but it is far too late to return to my carrier, and I am not sure if Apple would cut me a check for it.

Hope you can get yourself sorted one way or another. I will update this thread after tonight’s conversation.
I have an 11 Pro and the carrier is Verizon. I’m having an alarming amount of dropped calls. Today alone I have had five, and it’s quite embarrassing. I’ve had the phone for 4 weeks. All along I was blaming the dropped calls on the other person’s phone, but finally realized that it was mine! Did the 13.3 beta help at all?
Thanks for the reply. That’s what’s happening to me; calls are dropping back to back. I reset the network settings and it seems to be stable, but who knows how long that will last.I don’t get many calls but it happened back to back twice on the latest beta. So I’m gonna say NO!
Reading this thread hurts! 😰
As a life-long iOS lover with many iOS devices I finally purchased the iPhone X. Actually I had two of them. Both horrible in too many ways to list here but a GPS that only worked when the phone was standing still (same issue both phones!) was enough to force me over to my first Android phone, (a Samsung Galaxy Note 10+).
The Note 10+ is impressive in hardware, UI, and totally bug-free, but the selection of over-priced, bush league, android apps is a sad joke compared to iOS apps...
Which is what brought me back to the Macrumors.com forum to see if it might be safe to go back to a new iPhone 11 Pro Max since I'm "not feeling the love" with this Galaxy Note 10+ and its garbage collection of bloated, unpolished, overpriced android apps...
Unfortunately after checking a few threads here it would seem that the "new normal" for Apple is a continuing of defective hardware and whack-a-mole bug fixes with their iOS operating system, and deny, deny, deny, when customers register complaints about unusable new flagship iPhones.
<bang-head>
Quite depressing since I really am an iOS junkie at heart and my current Galaxy Note 10+ phone has got me trapped in Android hell.
Please Apple, fix the hardware, de-bug your OS, and admit it when your equipment simply does not work (like BOTH my former iPhone X's)!

Good post robrobrobro. 👍I had an X (and 8) with the GPS issue as well. I don’t get how it’s not talked about more. It’s a widespread issue and makes GPS/maps apps essentially useless (even dangerous honestly).
For what it’s worth, my standard 11 is my favorite iPhone I’ve ever had. I’ve never had a dropped call issue and from what I gather (although I may def be wrong) it’s the pros having the problem.
Are 11 pros being bought today still plagued with this problem? I know of only 1 person firsthand who bough the 11 pro near launch and his drops calls all the time too. I think he is finally going for another phone.

I still get dropped calls and encounter dead areas that are only a problem for my 11 Pro, and nobody else. I’m waiting for the next iOS release and if it’s still an issue, I will be finding another phone.
This is clearly not a widespread issue. This thread is only 11 pages long 2.5 months after launch day and it's mostly the same handful of people posting. Possibly defective hardware, etc. When there were widespread issues in the past (i.e. iPhone 7 showing "no service" on Verizon), the threads on Macrumors were over 100 pages long within a few weeks of launch day.
Have you tried swapping it out at the Apple store? Perhaps your device is defective?
I've only dropped 1-2 calls since launch day on Verizon (I see that you are on Verizon as well). My 11 Pro is certainly no worse than my XS. With the XS I had to toggle airplane mode to restore data connectivity and with the 11 Pro I haven't had to do so.
If you do a DFU restore, set the phone up as new and still have problems, Apple will replace it. Anytime I've walked into the Apple Store in the past and told them that I did a DFU restore and am still having issues, they handed me a new phone. Hope this helps!
I’ve swapped the phone 2 times. Set up from scratch. Reset network settings. Multiple iOS versions. Swapped the SIM twice. Same issues with both. My X never had a single issue in these same locations. My friends X consistently has more bars in the same areas and does not fade out or drop calls in the same areas my 11 pro does. Side by side. The 11 pro is trash.
Had two new and one 'refurbished' iPhone X last winter (Jan 2018) and all phones had the exact same issue; GPS would not function if phone was moving.
Very disheartening. Even though Apple was willing to replace the phone over & over it made no difference since all X phones had the same issue.
I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a new iPhone 11 Pro Max but the thought of spending $1200 on another iPhone only to find that it simply does not work nearly as well as my old 6s+ is extremely discouraging.
Thank you to the above posters. It helps to read your experiences on this issue. 👍
Modem firmware updated again. 11 Pro; no carrier update on Verizon.

They’re really working on that modem firmware. Seems they know it’s not reliable and has problems.
Yet another modem revision. We’ll see how calls do with this update. Verizon carrier version changed from 39.0 to 40.0.
1.03.12 - 13.3
1.02.14 - 13.2
1.01.19 - 13.1.2
1.01.17 - 13.1
1.00.06-6 - shipped / 13
My 11 Pro Max has been fine on calls until about two weeks ago. I just found out in the past couple of days that no one has been able to call me for quite a while. Whenever someone calls me, it goes straight to vm. Sometimes the phone rings briefly, sometimes not. My VM filled up, and I got no notifications that I had new VMs on my phone. This is a bit of a disaster as I had a client trying to contact me last week about a matter and it sat there for several days.
I've been working with Verizon for two days now, tried everything, nothing works. I'm going to get the phone replaced today. This is an unmitigated PITA.
