i am going to buy one. i use my current iphone dock for the phone and my iPod Nano. i think my 3rd Gen Nano will fit fine in the new iphone dock.

They should still make an adaptor for the universal dock. Even if you get crappy speakerphone with the things covered, I'm sure people would still like to use it as an iPod!!! So they can hook it up to their iPod equipment without it jiggling around.

Has anyone heard word of a new dual-dock for the iphone 3g and the Bluetooth headset.

So............the dock pictured above, Is it just a plastic base that has a regular iphone sync cable snapped into it? Or does it have video and audio out?

Anyone else reckon that with a bit of work with a Dremel the dock for the first iPhone will fit the 3G just fine?

Fitting fine and looking fine being very different.

I've got the old dock/remote for iPods and the original iPhone...please tell me I don't have to get rid of it and that I can just get a 3G insert for it...

Considering that the new iPhone is wider and deeper, I doubt an insert could make the hole bigger.

Assuming he is talking about a universal dock, yes. They have inserts made that you can use for the iPhone 3G

So now I will be paying more money for the service, and for accessories? Why include it for 1st gen but not 3G? More money is the only reason I can see. Kinda beat up.

Or you could just look at the picture of it on the apple website...

probably not, since the iPhone 3G (2nd Gen iPhone) is slightly different shape and slightly thicker.

i'm hoping that it does work because of its tapered edges, but most likely, it won't work with the previous dock that Apple shipped with the iPhone and the iPhone Bluetooth Headset Dock.

no wonder the iPhone is "cheaper" when it comes without everything. i bet the next iPod comes without earphones ^^

Sorry but ATT is not offering FAN discounts!

I just contacted an ATT representative and told them I was going to purchase an iphone 3g for my wife and myself who are both educators. The representative informed me that FAN discounts for education, government, etc. would NOT be applied for the iPhone 3g! I asked her, "are you sure" and with a disgusted tone in her voice she repeated the line she had written right in front of her, "I am sorry sir but once you upgrade to an iphone, your discount will not apply".

I wish apple could run their own phone company so we do not have to deal with ATT.
:eek::mad:

shocking ...

as with every apple product .. as revisions come out .. less comes in the box

i remember first ipod i got (3rd gen) i got a dock and remote control (the one that plug in your ipod and you plug in your headphones into it)

then i got a 4th gen .. no more remote control but still dock

by the time i got the photo there was no more dock if i member correctly

flash forward a few years .. i got a macbook 2 years ago and had a apple remote in it .. friend got a macbook pro last december (pre multi-touch) and still had the remote .. but when i got a new mbp this spring .. no more remote

.. so it figures that the 3G iphone is missing something in the box that came in the original box

don't be surprised if next year's model will need you to buy a usb cable ;)

Gotta cut costs somewhere. Adding the GPS chip probably wasn't free to Apple, and the upgrade to a 3G chip as opposed to a Edge chip probably wasn't free either. Cut costs where possible, not everyone will use the dock, so make it an optional purchase. Believe me, you bought it when you bought your original iPhone, just like you bought the headphones, wall charger and cable.

I second this inquery

I asked this a while ago... still curious. I shouldn't have to purchase a new dock just to charge the bt headset w/my phone.

if you look at the other thread with the actual picture of the doc, you could easily tell that it wont fit the new iPhone.

this has been discussed thoroughly and FAN will work, trust me.

I went to my local AT&T store yesterday and was told that my corporate discounts WOULD apply to the iPhone 3G, since there is no longer a revenue sharing model. Of course I won't really know until I sign my contract and get the bill.

Edit - it even says directly on the Apple website "Current and new iPhone users who now or will receive service under a corporate account and wish to upgrade to or purchase iPhone 3G need to contact AT&T directly" - http://www.apple.com/iphone/buy/

or as Canadians said in South Park ... we need more MONEY! GIVE US MORE MONEY!!
and that is why dock is not bundled with iPhone, because Apple just looooooves money, and will make this one a very expensive dock ;) Think money! :apple:
