Fan

I just contacted an ATT representative and told them I was going to purchase an iphone 3g for my wife and myself who are both educators. The representative informed me that FAN discounts for education, government, etc. would NOT be applied for the iPhone 3g! I asked her, "are you sure" and with a disgusted tone in her voice she repeated the line she had written right in front of her, "I am sorry sir but once you upgrade to an iphone, your discount will not apply".

I wish apple could run their own phone company so we do not have to deal with ATT.
:eek::mad:
I'm an educator too....how do I get my FAN number?

Hi cWeems,

So i heard a rumor that the stock for white iPhones may be limited compared to that of black iPhones. Any word on that being that you work at an ATT store?

Thanks!

I think the questions on the sound ports for the dock were "where does the sound come out?". There is a tiny slot along the front just like the current dock has. You can't see it unless you tilt the dock up and it is where the rubber bottom and the plastic meet.

+20 on the dual dock. I will buy the bluetooth headset if they include a new dual dock. I use the dock all the time and hate just having cables laying on my computer desk or night stand.

Has anyone heard word of a new dual-dock for the iphone 3g and the Bluetooth headset.

I was at the AT&T store today and the store manager said that they will be selling a new Bluetooth Headset/Dual Dock/Car Charger accessory kit for $154 on Friday.

I guess we will know in about 40 hours.

Gotta cut costs somewhere. Adding the GPS chip probably wasn't free to Apple, and the upgrade to a 3G chip as opposed to a Edge chip probably wasn't free either. Cut costs where possible, not everyone will use the dock, so make it an optional purchase. Believe me, you bought it when you bought your original iPhone, just like you bought the headphones, wall charger and cable.

You know that is actually a good point that I didn't think about.

Nope. The original was £29.99 which equates to $59.40 at today's exchange rate.

eek! it seems you guys pay more for everything! but i hear you make more also? maybe retire in america and soak up that exchange rate? ;)

our dock is costs about £15.00 with the exchange..

as with every apple product .. as revisions come out .. less comes in the box

i remember first ipod i got (3rd gen) i got a dock and remote control (the one that plug in your ipod and you plug in your headphones into it)

then i got a 4th gen .. no more remote control but still dock

by the time i got the photo there was no more dock if i member correctly

flash forward a few years .. i got a macbook 2 years ago and had a apple remote in it .. friend got a macbook pro last december (pre multi-touch) and still had the remote .. but when i got a new mbp this spring .. no more remote

.. so it figures that the 3G iphone is missing something in the box that came in the original box

don't be surprised if next year's model will need you to buy a usb cable ;)

Less comes in the box, but the prices also seem to tend to drop (the price for the top of the line iPod, for example, drifted down from $499 for the first gen 10GB iPod to, say, $350 for the cost of the current high-end iPod Classic).

In the case of the iPhone, I'll personally take a 3G iPhone with GPS and 16GB of storage but no dock for $299 over an original iPhone with EDGE, 8GB of storage and a dock for $399 (not even to mention for $599).

FAN discounts

this has been discussed thoroughly and FAN will work, trust me.

I spoke with an ATT rep yesterday and she told me that FAN discounts are still not applicable. I lost my discount one year ago when I signed up. She said she was not sure, but that may possibly change at some point in the future.

no wonder the iPhone is "cheaper" when it comes without everything. i bet the next iPod comes without earphones ^^

Seeing as how I have maybe five pairs of Apple earphones and zero Apple earphones I've ever even taken out of the packaging, I wouldn't be terribly against that.

But I guess they're such a brand identifier at this point, so I doubt it'll happen :)

Anyone else reckon that with a bit of work with a Dremel the dock for the first iPhone will fit the 3G just fine? ;)
According to the specs, the 3G is *exactly* the same face dimensions, just a scant 0.25mm thicker... As long as the dock connector is in the same place, I don't even think a dremel would be needed. Just a firm push or *maybe* a little bit of sandpaper. I'll find out on Friday! :)

Yeah it seems weird that the dock would have to be different, as the thicker part of the iphone is in the middle, as the edges are tapered. It's not wider, so why would it not fit??:confused:

It is a tad thicker than the old iPhone in the middle. The face dimensions are not the same. It is taller, and I believe it actually is a hair wider.

Any word on number of docks each store is getting? I would think they will go fast.

my ATT rep to my firm said that FAN will apply.

I have the dock as well as the dock that came with the iPhone Bluetooth Headset which charges both. I have that dock in my kitchen and always charge my headset and phone together.

There is no mention on the Apple site of the Bluetooth Headset charging dock being re-done for the 3G, nor is there any mention of whether the 3G will fit into the older docks (with or without carving out a bit of plastic).

If and when I do upgrade to a 3G, I really don't want to get a new dock, let alone 2. The Bluetooth dock works great as it charges both together really well.

Thanks for the heads up. I was wondering what iPhone 3G Universal Dock Adapter 3-Pack would be under iPhone accessories section? It seemed there is going to be a bluetooth headset for iPhone 3G.
