I am waiting for white, but I sure hope that they are available very soon, and that they give us at least somewhat of an idea when it will be available. I don't want to have to wait until it just suddenly appears as available.

I was so sad this morning, because I was just so excited! I am going from a 2G that I have had for almost 3 years, so this is a big upgrade for me.

I've already ordered my black one because honestly, I have no preference on the color of my phone.

But, do you think Apple/ATT have a plan to wait to release the white one till after June ends on purpose. This way, come next year, if they decided to give all the people who's contract expires by the end of 2011, the group who waited for the white will not be eligible because they didn't renew their contract before the end of the first half of the year?

Just speculation...

LOL.. Guess your having a slow day today :D

My theory is that before the Gizmodo leak, Apple might have decided that they would offer only the Black iPhone this time round.

Now, to offer a 'surprise', Steve made the White decision late on so there aren't too many units available, and there isn't much point of having a couple of White and Millions of Blacks. That is why I believe the White has been delayed. They haven't made enough of them due to a late call by Apple.

Wishing you luck!

No.

Obviously it's some unforeseen manufacturing or distributing issue. It was announced at WWDC - and up until the day before pre-orders it was available until they pulled the plug.

Sounds like a last minute move, i.e something happened they couldn't control

That's exactly what I'm thinking. I'm waiting for the white one and come next year if I'm not eligible for the new iphone because of it they will definitely be hearing from me.

Some real crack pot theories here kids....

Most likely had a production issue, and couldn't guarantee white iPhones by June 24th, so instead they are working as fast as they can to get them in hopefully by launch day so you can walk in and pick one up from Apple rather than pre-ordering and then disappointing those who won't get them until the following week.

Someone else on here suggested the white pre-order will be delayed in order to better facilitate server load.

Makes sense to me. Servers are down with just the black for sale.

I was thinking that maybe that thread on here about the possible cracks had something to do with it. Maybe those really were cracks and Apple noticed it on some.

I really, really want to wait it out this year until all the launch hysteria dies down. When the 3G launched, I was so caught up in all of the craziness that by the time all was said and done, I had placed calls to AT&T Executive Customer Service and they knew me personally down at the local AT&T Store. The way I behaved was just ridiculous and embarrassing, but I was so obsessed with getting my hands on a 3G as fast as possible that I didn't care. (The only good thing that came out of it was that I learned deal with AT&T customer service inside and out, which I'm sure we all know is a valuable, if not vital, skill for iPhone owners :) )

This time around, I refuse to get swept up in all the craziness. I've waited 2 years to upgrade. I'm willing to wait a little longer so that I can go to the Apple Store, take my time while checking out the demo units, browse for accessories, and enjoy chatting with the sales associates. For me, buying Apple products at the Apple Store is an experience to enjoy and savor; it shouldn't induce hysterics. Having gone through the self-indulgent insanity once, I'm more than happy to remove myself the ecstasy and the agony of the iPhone launch week.

Out of all the theories I've heard this one makes the most sense. Me I've had both white and black iPhones but this time around the white looks amazing...BUT!...I reserved the black 32gb and if they have white on launch great if not...still great. I'm just happy I was able to get a reserve before the servers started imploding

+1 Everything else is black helicopters. You guys think EVERYTHING is a freakin' conspiracy!

Occam's razor people...

So the theory is that the white iPhone is being intentionally delayed so the servers would merely "fail hard" rather than "fail really hard"? Brilliant.

I sure hope this is it.

People will be PISSED if it turns out that they planned this all along and just didn't feel like telling us.

I'd actually forgive some huge mistake they couldn't avoid. But just hiding the plan to be jerks? That's not ok.

I'm going to wait, and it has nothing to do with the color. I waited for the original iPhone (wasn't completely sold till I tried one) until September. Then 3G, I waited until Spetember again. Never got the 3GS, but now I'm available for an upgrade (my 2 year contract runs out in September, but I can upgrade now). My main reason for waiting is the antenna. If it's much better than the current one, I'm gonna buy one in a couple of weeks or a month after launch. If we are still getting the same terrible reception here in NYC/NJ, etc, I'm leaving AT&T. I'm tired of terrible reception. I love having a great gadget like the iPhone, where I have all of my music, apps, can check email and the interntet, etc, but if the phone gets no reception, having said gadget is a moot point.

I'm just hoping this delay isn't indicative of a design/production issue with the phone itself. Hopefully, it's just an issue of insufficient supply.

Hmmm, What's the Reasoning Behind Not Having White iPhone for Pre-Order?

I just find it odd, Apple nor At&t is taking pre-orders and At&t says it will be available "Later This Summer". Is Apple creating hype or is their something wrong with the White iPhones they still have to work out before they ship them? What's your theory?

P.S. I'm a fan of the White but still getting Black.

The only thing I'm worried about is waiting too long to get it, and ruining my chances at getting a full upgrade next year. I might only wait until the end of june. That way my upgrade will be before 2012.
