Is this a legit source...I've been googling every combo I can think of...
But it says, Where's The White iPhone 4? Apple Says It'll Sell It "As Quickly As We Can"

http://www.businessinsider.com/wher...e-says-its-coming-as-quickly-as-we-can-2010-6

Well according to the Apple rep they spoke with, the black one will be available for launch and only the black one. I think people who are holding out hope that the white one will be available to pre-order before June 24th hits are delusional/overly hopeful.

I do want the white one though and am ready to wait it out. At least for now. :D

I'm sure it's a production or supply issue. Based on how quickly Apple is rolling these out to other countries, there is no other logical reason.

Unfortunately, every time I will see Steve Jobs on a stage now, I'm gonna think what is he lying about now? What half-truths is he spewing?
What details is he not telling us about?
I'm gonna take everything he says with a grain of salt and ya know what...I think a lot of other people are now going to as well.
Microsoft did that to me years ago and that's why I'm here at Apple now.
Are they gonna do that to me now too?

Oh come on. Every time I see Steve Jobs on a stage, he is intro'ing a device I certainly didn't have the good sense to imagine possible a few years ago (which is when they were designing it). What on earth does what he says in a keynote have to do with the complicated logistics and messy outlier situations that can always turn up in any widely anticipated Apple product launch.

These rollouts are messy, sure, but it's because so many people want the things, and because we're living in an interesting age of impatience, carelessness and narcissism all coming together in the marketplace.

Plus, some of us like to believe that everything is only a mouse click away including fixes to inevitable engineering and production issues. I like to plunk those people down in front of some terminal screens when Murphy's law is having at a bunch of servers or a circuit breaker trips when the A/C kicks into a higher gear some warm morning. I like to say to them "OK, buddy, you got ten seconds to fix this before five hundred thousand angry credit card holders storm the gates, so tel me right now, what is wrong with these servers?" Things can take time to sort out when something goes wrong. Fixing transaction systems is like doing surgery. First: do no harm.

Just think about the logistics of taking pre-orders from many hundreds of thousands of people at once, many of whom are upgrading (with implication of the plan data check requirements), some of whom are legit customers and others who may be trying to slide something not right past the order-takers, maybe jump the line for buying phones for use in another country, get extra ones to sell in the grey market, and so forth.

Be sure that AT&T and Apple have done the best they can to be ble to manage the bulk of the orders with no sweat, since it's in their interest to do so. No one in either company sets out to disappoint customers, but their success rate depends in part on customers having a little patience, perspective, and grasp of realities.

So my suggestion is don't let any particular rollout spoil the fun of anticipating the next "one more thing....." in an Apple keynote.

And this suggestion comes from someone intensely disappointed that I can't get my order processed online today, because of my zip code not being officially inside an AT&T service coverage area... had to drive 180 miles for the first iPhone and spend hours on the phone resolving my first upgrade 2 years later. Probably have to do the same thing this time aroiund trying to upgrade my other line. Eventually it will get sorted out.

One day's disappointment cannot diminish my overall enthusiasm for my Apple devices. Sure, my no-go online upgrade puts a massive crimp in my day today, but I try to let each day have its due and no more. Might take awhile to figure out what that due consideration is, but generally I go for the idea that it's ok to glance back but not to stare, since otherwise I might trip over something while in forward motion.

No where in that quote does the guy say it might be available before June 24th. He says they will have the black version available at launch. That is it....So when will the white be available Apple. Give us a press release at least!

+1

This is the SF Chronicle's assumption, not any quote or statement from Apple.

On the other hand, because of the delay in this, it would only be right/prudent if Apple released it with a sale price lower than the regular subsidized price because of their smeg-up. It isn't the customer's fault Apple built up the hype then dropped the ball on this.

Can I switch my black iPhone w/ Dad's white iPhone later?

Me and my dad have our own separate accounts in separate states and we are both eligible for an upgrade.

I already sold my 3GS on eBay with anticipation that a new white iPhone 4 would be available for pre-order, but it wasn't. My dad wanted a 16GB black iPhone 4 and I wanted the 32GB white iPhone 4. So is it okay if I order the 16GB black iPhone 4 on my account so I have something to use in the interim period, and then have my dad order a white 32GB iPhone 4 when available and we swap them & our sim cards so that we have the correct phones and sims? He is not in immediate need of it and is okay with us doing this. I'll currently have my sim card on his phone and he will have mine on his when he gets the white one.

I am just concerned if this will cause any problems in terms of if we ever need AppleCare, he will have to call in for the White phone because he originally bought it, and I will need to call in for his Black phone.. Are we able to swap ownership on the account so that this problem doesn't arise?

until the 24th, you have no basis for this

my bro in law who works for AT&T says that he spoke with his manager and they MIGHT have white ones available in store on June 24th. Guess I gotta wake up early!

I guess this is a sign to wait for the white model. I'm not settling for fingerprints, as much as I want to pre-order right now I'm not going to.

There's alwys a way! Move all your apps to the top halves of the pages. Via iTunes!

Yea I can get into the apps by using Spotlight search but in the Phone app for example I can't press any of the tabs on the bottom (like Keypad) and it's stuck on Recent Calls (which, honestly, is the best possible place for it to get stuck on IMO).

I can make outgoing calls by writing the number into an email, sending it to myself and then clicking on the link from the iPhone.

Can't check tweets because Tweetie is stuck on the trending topics tab.

I can text by tilting the iPhone into horizontal position to get to all the buttons -- painfully slow.

Yea, my life is tough. :)

i want the white, and i'm not going to encourage this behavior by settling for black. So i'll wait until they get their **** together.

If the white comes available, it would either have to be before the launch date or else well after. Think of all the folks who are getting black because the white isn't available. If it's available before launch then they have time to cancel and order the white. If not, think of all the returns and pissed off people they'd have to deal with. They're having enough trouble dealing with the preorders (and I'm sure the upcoming activations) to add this headache on top of it.

There should be no problem. You can swap SIM cards within two iPhone 4 no problem, I believe.

Also you should be all good with the Apple Care. You don't even have to get the coverage right away. When you two swap the phones, get coverage for each. (You can get them before swap and change ownership as well, but it's simpler this way).

AppleCare, unless they change the rule this time, is really attached to the phone. As long as you don't void the warranty, you can purchase/move ownership no problem.
