[Merged] iPhone 4 pre-order only available in black / not available in white

My husband called Apple cause we've had no luck ordering online (and no luck on the phone w/ them either BTW), but he asked about the white iphone (cause it's the one i really wanted), and the rep said Apple stores will have them on launch day. I take it with a grain of salt since I see no reason why an Apple rep would have that info and no other site does, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.
 
I wanted a white one, waited all damn night for pre-ordering to go live, so disappointed :mad: . Still will wait for the white one to be released. ;)

I think maybe another PR sale stunt by Apple to improve sales and hype. :confused:
 
if White's not available right now, I don't see it by launch - because if they knew it'd be there by launch what's the difference taking pre-orders for it? It's not like they have to hand them over today. Leads me to believe this will be mid-July at least.
 
I'm somewhat surprised there hasn't been a press release yet as to why the white isn't available.

I'm just as pissed about the lack of communication as I am for it not being available. They led us on and it's bulls*** we don't have any explanation yet or some sort of ETA. Say SOMEthing, Apple! JERKS!
 
What about the 1 year warrantee that already comes with the phone out of the box? When I activate/register my dad's black iphone 4 on iTunes next week with my current phone number, won't Apple have associated the black phone with me? So even if we swap sim cards when the white phone comes, won't Apple think the black phone belongs to me even though we swapped sims and I now got the white one I wanted?

Also you should be all good with the Apple Care. You don't even have to get the coverage right away. When you two swap the phones, get coverage for each. (You can get them before swap and change ownership as well, but it's simpler this way).

AppleCare, unless they change the rule this time, is really attached to the phone. As long as you don't void the warranty, you can purchase/move ownership no problem.

This is my first chance to check things out. Did Apple give a reason for not telling us the White was being delayed?

I don't think it means that at all. Maybe there will be some at launch but Apple isn't sure how many. They can't take pre-orders if they don't know how many they will have. Maybe they had a manufacturing issue and are pulling bad one's out and counting good ones now?

Or maybe it will be here in August.

A statement from Apple would really be nice right now.

agreed. being in the dark this close to launch is really stupid. At least give a statement - any statement would be good.

Exactly. This is total BS. I want the white because all the iPhones are black. I want to feel like this is a really new phone. WTF is it with the white one being an issue to get ahold of?

I hate having to wait for a damn color.
 
The real reason the white iPhone is unavailable.

As a financial analyst I have a theory about why the white iPhone is not yet available. It's all about business people. June 30th is the cutoff day for quarterly sales numbers. I suspect Apple wants as many sales as possible to hit their books after July 1st so their financial numbers are steady. Look for a July 1st order availability date.

It's all so their quarterly earnings graph can be a smooth line. Corporate business sucks huh?

Or I could be full of it. Let's see what excuse Apple gives us.
 
hmm, I don't know about that...

black is definitely more popular than white, I don't think it would make any difference....

I actually emailed steve inquiring about it, I don't expect a response....but hopefully I will :)

I doubt that. He could have easily just cut the allocation of iphones by half and still be fine. I think it's more of a very short supply due to quality control for them to stop a color line.
 
Hey if you guys wanna complain the best thing to do is call Apple Corporate, at 408-996-1010. Press 0 for the operator and when she answers tell her you have a complaint. She'll escalate you to "customer relations" and you should get a human being pretty quickly who is happy to hear your concern/complaint.

I know because I just called and told them to get their head out of their ass and say something on this situation. Ok well I didn't say exactly that, but I did give them a piece of my mind, nicely. :)

Hmmm... but I'm assuming they would have a LARGE return rate since that is within the 30 days... they would then have to credit their revenue account correct (as it's a normal debit account if I remember correctly)? I'm not sure how that will help with their quarterly earnings.

I'm sure they have Allowance for bad debt and all that stuff... but regardless... I would think all the returns would hurt.

I agree black is more popular. That's why they're selling it. But their are those who will wait for white and holding back that demand a few days will have a huge impact on quarterly numbers while also making the white iPhones special because you had to jump through hoops to get them.

I also wouldn't be surprised if next year only the folks who preordered (black phones) will be eligible for the iPhone 4G upgrade. GASP!

That's generally the consensus with analysts. :D

I don't believe there is any marketing going on here, it's a production or supply issue. Nothing else makes sense.
 
Seems sketchy. How many people are delaying purchase b/c they want a white one? How does only making the black one available sell more units? Maybe you are assuming people will just "settle" for black, but I don't think that is a huge %. I know if the table was turned, I would not be hot for a white iPhone. I'd just wait it out.

Restocking fees equals more $$$ and cheaper refurbished iPhones for future users.

I just called the Apple Store a few minutes ago and the rep told me he wanted the white iPhone 4 as well and he hasn't head anything and he said unless they release a press release that they won't know until they get the first shipment in.

I am. I'm just really pissed honestly.

A few less Foxconn suicides and we wouldn't have this problem.
 
I'm holding out for a white one. Not sure why but the white looks really awesome to me. Reminds me of my first iPod and how sleek it looked. I'm guessing there is some kind of major production delay.

The real question is will we even see a press release.
