Best Buy inventory system shows white on order
I work as an Inventory and Shipping and Receiving specialist at Best Buy. Our launch shipment of iphone 4s include 10 of each model. Last time I checked, which was about 3 days ago. We had four purchase orders dates ranging 6/21-7/15. All of them included the white.

It seems odd that best buy would have not have at least called me. I know some BB's were busy but I was there at 11 (they open at 10) and from the looks of things I couldn't have been further down the list than 5th to pre-order.
I'll be calling in the morning to see if my pre-order is still in tact, but it would be strange, even for a large company like Best Buy to take money, then cancel, without so much as a phone call. We'll see I guess. I'll post after I talk to them and let ya know though.

Call the BestBuy that you pre-ordered from and get your money back if you truly want a white one. Our BBY mobile team received emails today from corporate with instructions to stop selling the white iPhone pre-orders. The SKU for the pre-order also had its trigger turned off to avoid selling future pre-orders.
I deal with several different BBY stores with my position in the company. Most of the stores I saw today were calling back the clients and having them chose if they wanted to be put down for a black iPhone or just come into the store for a refund. However one of the stores I saw today was just re-routing everyone's order to that of a black iPhone without any courtesy calls at all.
I would recommend calling the store, and also voicing your opinion with BestBuy for not giving you a call as soon as they found out. We received these emails around 2 o'clock at the latest.
As with the iPad launch, there is a huge benefit to Apple in keeping the buzz alive by limiting availability (It's standard operating procedure at Harley-Davidson for example). They know they're going to get 99% of the early adopters no matter how much they rant and rave on message boards, but they want the more casual buyers to get infected with that gotta-have-it mentality and that is more likely to happen the more they read about it in the news and hear about it from their early adopter friends.

Upgraded 2 lines with the 16gb iPhone 4, waiting for the white iphone 4 to upgrade the other 3.

I was just thinking, Apple and AT&T will have phones as first come first serve on the 24th. Maybe then we will be able to buy a white iPhone on launch day? That sounds like something Apple would do. Kind of a reward for us that are being patient.

thats what im hoping for but i wont put any faith in it until apple says SOMETHING! i still cant beleive they havent addressed any of this mess with the whole white iphone situation. they seriously left so many people out in the cold with this move. im just waiting to hear straight from apple cause nobody else can be trusted heck i dont even trust apple at this point.
If you mean only available on launch day as "Walk-Ins", then I don't think so. Think about how many people who want a white one yet do not have a local Apple Store anywhere near them.
That would pi$$ sooooooooo many people off including ME!
Not to mention those of us who can't justify using up vacation hours to take the day off that day.
What I don't get is that if it is indeed a production problem, then they had to have known this well before the keynote and certainly waaaaaaaaaaaaay before the preordering started!

I agree, it is probably a production issue. There will be no white iPhone for launch day. I am guessing we'll have to wait until end of July/beginning of August until the White iPhones hit the market. I was planning on buying one. I will most likely buy a black and hope the white comes out with the 30 day return time period, and then spend the $20 restocking fee.
it's actually only 14 days if you're exchanging for a different color of the same phone, just fyi
I was told by apple representatives that I could exchange my black one for a white one within 30 days of my purchase, with no questions asked. That is, provided they have white ones within 30 days of the 24th..
if they don't, or for some reason I can't exchange it.. then oh well, I have a black one.

So they're obviously coming on launch day, and theres no way Apple is gonna let them be a Best Buy exclusive
ahh well good to know. I may do the same, we'll see.. or if DH upgrades this summer maybe I'll order for him a white and give him my black. But I may just like the black when it arrives...
BB is cancelling white pre orders, and releasing statements that they don't know how long it will be before it comes in, so I wouldn't bet on it.
From what I've read in the forums lately, some of those pre orders have been cancelled or been exchanged for Black iPhones.
