Best Buy probably didn't KNOW they weren't getting them... or didn't read the memo.
Even Apple Store employees didn't know there would be no white until we all found out.
Apple didn't hold back the release of the white iPhone just because they thought it would be clever or whatever crazy idea you all think. It's obvious that there was a production issue with the white ones. They were either defective or weren't able to produce them fast enough. You should all be happy that they didn't ship the phones to you and then they start falling apart after a few weeks.
I'm just hoping...
I'm just hoping that they have some information out there before the 24th. At least then people could decide to get the black one or wait it out for the white one. Big difference between a couple of weeks and a few months...especially since my 3g is starting to fall apart on me haha.

Something tells me we're going to see Hollywood Celebs pimping white iPhones this summer before they become publicly available.
They will have it. It makes absolute NO sense that they would announce that the iPhone was out June 24th and available in two colors but only make one color available. Makes no sense at all, unless something happened with manufacturing/shipping - which then a statement would be easily addressed.
On the flip side, it makes sense that the white version is less stocked - hence not putting it up for pre order means the inventory for white is low so it's a first in line, first served basis for the white iPhone.
It's not rocket science.

I can't believe the number of people that actually believe this will be the case. You really think you're going to go to the store on the release day and they'll say "Surprise, we have white ones now!"
That would make anybody who pre-ordered even more pissed off than they already are now on top of everything else.
I really wish they would say SOMETHING regarding the timeline for release of the white iphone...I feel like I'm in limbo...
It would be nice to know if I should take off for a half day to go stand in the ubiquitous line at apple...ugh.
(Because, it's not that I want to...I just want the new iphone more than I'd rather not stand in line)

So then why would Steve Jobs himself say the two colors are available June 24th? He had no mention of preorders in his keynote so people upset that they can't preorder white are based of their own assumptions.
I'm not assuming white is going to be available on launch. That's what he freakin said.
He also said we could pre-order both on June 15th, but that didn't happen either.
Why would they reward you? You still have to pay full price and not everyone wants a white one.
+1. I live near one but not everyone does. Hell not everyone lives near an ATT or Best Buy store. They dont want to take the day off and waste gas and money to drive in to town.

I own the white 3gs right now... and after a few months, it just looks cheaper. I think the black phone is so much more sexy than the white phone. I just had my 3gs replaced by apple due to hairline fractures in the plastic. I also noticed that every little scratch or nick in the plastic looked way worse on the white because it was more visible to the naked eye. I am excited to have the black phone.

I had a similar experience with my white 3g...but I'm thinking now that it will be glass on the back instead of the plastic that maybe that won't happen this time. That's the only thing that has me thinking I may get a white again. I have a reserve for the black and am still undecided. I definitely think that's an issue though. People I know who have black ones, the phone still looks great...mine...not so much. Maybe I'm just dirty...so dirty.
Apple Customer Relations Rep: You will be able to PURCHASE a White iPhone on the 24th
So as with all things, let me preface this by saying that unless I hear official statements from Apple themselves or Steve Jobs, I take iPhone related news with a grain of salt.
As was suggested here and elsewhere I called Apple Customer Relations to politely voice my concerns over the lack of information on what happened to pre-ordering the white iPhone or information on when we can expect to be able to buy one (a couple of days, weeks, months, etc). The guy was very understanding and said he totally felt my pain of trying to port over from Verizon and trying to plan for everything with the lack of knowledge of when the white iPhone would be available and the lack of pre-order option. He then dropped this bomb on me, "You will be able to purchase the white iPhone at launch". I processed that for a second before asking him to repeat it which he did. So I thanked him for understanding and before getting off the line I said, "So let me just confirm what you are saying. I will be able to actually purchase a white iPhone 4 on Thursday the 24th from Apple?" to which he said "Yes".
There it is. Im not taking this as an official statement from Apple but if their Customer Relations reps are saying this and not only saying that it will be available for purchase at some point in the future then it atleast gives hope.

How would apple underestimate the demand if they pulled it before pre-orders even started (before they even had a chance to see the demand)?
I do not doubt this, as I am sure some will be available. However, these are the same people that told my mom that when reserving, you do not receive and e-mail confirmation, and that she has to go in to pay to pick up on the 24th.
Why are there NO stories from Engadget, BGR, Gizmodo etc. of them trying to contact Apple regarding white iPhone availability. I wish some of these people would call up the Apple spokesperson/relations people and ask them about this directly. And if the Apple people say we con't comment on that or whatever, then let us all know about it. 
Really confused as to why that would be the case. So what...they'd let people switch from a black reservation to a white one? What about people waiting in line? Who gets first dibs? I think that plan would create way more problems than it would solve without some explaining ahead of time.
