Let's just say that for some crazy reason, Apple DOES have the white iPhone

I did reserve a black 32GB iPhone for the 24th at the Apple store, even though I've always had white iPhones(22 of them to be exact) and I really wanted the white one this time around, too. But that didn't happen...
SO, say I get there inside the Apple store to purchase my iPhone and they happen to have white. Would they let me switch out my reservation for the black one and get the white one instead?

So I tracked down this really nice girl I went to high school with who works at the Apple Store. She says there will be white available at launch, but harder to get because they didn't anticipate that it would be as popular as it suddenly was post WWDC. Preorders could have robbed Apple Stores of their units and they have to have some of each color/size in each store.

I'm gathering they care more about the walk-ins than the preordering people because the people that preorder are most likely Apple fans who are a guaranteed sales anyway. I don't imagine Apple will say anything until Launch Day Eve, if anything at all... Since they went about this all wrong from the beginning. Okay, I went on too long with my take on it, but that's what I heard!

Think about it this way, if they save the white iPhone's for launch in store only there going to get more out of those people who come into the store.

More accessories, signing them up for mobile me, having them look at other apple products. I don't know about you but when I go into an Apple store to buy one thing I always come out with a couple more items in my bag... :p

Someone I know who works at the Apple Store said they will have some in each store and I can't see why you can't exchange. Guess they figure it's better to sell out than just have none cause they all went to preorder.

That's pretty much what I figured. And they know girls like me who like the white will be way more likely to buy all sorts of accessories. I mean, if they ask if I'd like a dock with it, I have to at least see it! And then end up buying it.:D

But all that aside, they'd just rather the people that are on the fence get the iphone they wanted and not go down the street and pick up an Android device. Sadly they know us preorder people pretty much have the apple logo already stamped on our white iPhone money.

Makes a lot of sense that they don't want to have the stores run out of white. I just wish I could know ahead of time whether I need to camp. Is it even worth it to camp out with no word from Apple if in the end I could walk out empty-handed? (I'm pretty set on white.)

I'm going to ask her again on Tuesday to see if she's heard differently just to be annoying and pretty much ensure her thinking I'm a rabid Apple fan. But as of right now, I'm definitely camping.

I just thought of this but arent we guaranteed to know atleast the evening before whether these places have white iPhones? I mean the Apple store will already have the stock by then so all you would have to do is ask a manager. If they have them I highly doubt they are going to say no and turn away a potential customer.

That's what I'm thinking. I'm gonna call the day before. Will the apple store close early the night before?

Oh my, owning 22 white iPhone is totally badass! Now I know who was the only guy in line who gets all the white iPhones and leaves the black for the rest! :D

22 white iphones?!? For some kind of kinetic sculpture?

Not the Apple store i was at. Whatever you reserved is what you had to buy. But i think with the white phone they would have to let you change since the white wasn't an option to reserve to begin with.

I'm hoping they'll be able to switch out a 16GB for a 32GB, but that's less likely than a black one for a white one.

I'm working that day, so even with reservations (I was able to make 22 of them :)), if they had it in stock that morning, they'll definitely be gone by the time I get there.

Yes. We are bound to know for sure by Tuesday or Wednesday if the white will be in stock. I spoke to a few radioshacks and they told me that they would know by a day or 2 before as to whether or not they will hav the white. I put my name & # down at these RS for them to call me and let me know.

If Apple does not officially say the white won't be available the 24th then we are to assume that they will be there.

since when is a color as plain as white considered a girls color?

I agree. White, IMO is more classy and clean.

My barber compared the white ip4 to a white Beamer. Seems like girls go toward white colored cars/toys. A white Beamer is typical guidette (as my barber put it). Regardless I'm waiting on white. It's unique.

Does anyone know if they even allow you to go into an Apple store for other business other than to buy an iPhone that day?
I am holding out for a white iPhone but I was thinking if they have them on display that day I could come in and at least look at one!
Maybe after I see it I won't like it as much and want the black one!
I dunno, but it could happen. :)

Yes they will. On launch day, they usually set up a line separate from the entrance for all the iPhone buyers. You would be welcome to walk in first, take a look at the phones, make a decision, and head to the back of the line.

THANK YOU!
I hoping that they at least will have a white one on display.

haha nah I buy and sell them on craigslist to make some extra cash

Question for you... How exactly are you buying the iPhones and selling them on Craigs List?

Do you end up paying full price for the phone and selling them for like $100 more for example? That sounds like a great way to make some extra cash and i'd like in on it :) except I will use eBay
