Assuming they are available (and I personally think they will be) then I don't see how they can let you switch without causing issues with those people who may be in line specifically for the white iPhone. I believe (and hope) they will either honor your reservation or pre-order for black or have you get into the line for those waiting to purchase available store stock.

If for some reason they allow black reservations walk out with white iPhones expect there to be a riot from those people who got in line to buy the white Iphone they couldn't pre-order or reserve.

I'd be pissed if Apple sold white iPhones to people that reserved black ones and then ran out of the white ones before I got the chance to buy one. I did not pre-order/reserve an iPhone because they don't have white. If they do have white at launch, I will definetly try to get one, but I am not going to camp out or anything.

Question for you... How exactly are you buying the iPhones and selling them on Craigs List?

Do you end up paying full price for the phone and selling them for like $100 more for example? That sounds like a great way to make some extra cash and i'd like in on it :) except I will use eBay

Really depends on your city because it can mean the difference between a really quick sale or a quick and profitable sale.

since i'm not going anywhere near an Apple store I guess it wouldn't matter to me but I wouldn't like it.

since when is a color as plain as white considered a girls color?

I think when people say its a girl's color, they might mean that only a girl would care about what color her phone is. Black should be fine for a guy who doesn't need his phone to match his shoes or purse. Maybe.

May be it won't be available on the 24th but I bet that by the 24th they will announce a actual date that the white iPhone will be available and I think that date could be the 25th or soon enough in the future that people will chill out and not buy up a black iPhone just to have the new iPhone 4 now instead of some unknown later date.

If the people who reluncantly ordered the black iPhone 4 new that they could get their hands on a white iPhone 4 sooner than later they would get out of line or cancel their order and some one else who is on a "back order" list could have their black iPhone on launch day instead of some time in July.

Apple would still have all of the available new iPhones sold to folks who wanted black any way and they would save themselves the hassle of all the potential returns.

I bet there are a lot of folks who didn't even care what color they got until they found out white was unavailable. I am one of those folks who could not have cared less until I had the choice taken away from me by the inability to pre-order from Apple or AT&T so I went to RS and reserved a white iPhone 4 which they claim to have in their inventory and will be made available to me on the 24th.

I have to admit that although I have a white 3gs and have recently decided that I definitely prefer the look of the black iPhone 4, if given the choice on launch day I would probably get the white just because ........

It just doesn't make any since to me that Apple would want to end up with thousands of black iPhone 4s that have to be checked out, reset, cleaned up, and re-boxed with new headphones and sold again as refurbished units.

I would imagine that the cost of getting all those black iPhones ready to resale would be greater than the 10% restocking fee they charge the customers and that's why I think they may end up going up on the restocking fee by launch time if they can't get it together on the missing white iPhone 4.

I'm just simply waiting. Last year I was panicked to get my hands on the 3GS. I excited to get my hands on the iPhone 4 but I want what I'm paying for a few weeks doesn't really matter much to me.

It would be completely unfair in my opinion. I don't think it would happen. My apple store was very strict on the capacity switching on iPad launch day. The deal was the person could get out of the preorder line and get into the regular line if they wanted a new capacity. I would hope this policy would become company wide, should the white become available.

I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with matching shoes or purses as much as it has to do with I don't want annoying ****ing fingerprints showing up every time I touch the ****ing phone. Just saying.

Guys are so cool, we don't even know what a color *is*.

The sales rep at my store told me there shouldn't be a problem switching the reserved black phone for a white one. I know some might think its unfair, but I personally think its fair if you show up early enough to get one.

Thats just it. Those people in the non-reserve line are not necessarily lining up specifically for white phones any more than the people waiting in the reserved line are. It has not been announced they were ever for presale period so no one knows. Therefore I think that every person in EITHER line has the same right to the white phones and should have equal opportunity. That would mean whoever is in the front of each line would have the best chance at a white iPhone. That said, Ill be stopping by the Apple store Wednesday evening and talking to the sales manager to ask them whether they have white iPhones and what their policy is regarding this. I need to know which line to stand in.

Since nobody preordered the white one, it should be fair game to everyone in line.

Well, it does look like the initially planned on the white phones being available for pre-order, as they have the art assets for the white pre-order buttons on their servers:

I called up Apple Store Fifth Avenue three times and got three different responses:

1. Yes
2. No
3. I don't know

The same thing I got when I went to 14th Street yesterday. An employee on the first floor said to me "No white iPhones on June 24th" while an employee on the second floor said to me "No official word from Apple yet". So.

Why I expect White iPhone 4s on 24th

OK May be it won't be available on the 24th but I bet that by the 24th they will announce a actual date that the white iPhone will be available and I think that date could be the 25th or soon enough in the future that people will chill out and not buy up a black iPhone just to have the new iPhone 4 now instead of some unknown later date.

Just a few weeks ago I returned my new 16g iPad (4 days old - no re-stocking fee) to the Apple store because I lucked up on a 32g at Best Buy, a guy who was in the store at the time wanted to buy a 16g but they were currently unavailable, he asked them if he could purchase the one I was returning because he did not like waiting for some unknown shipment to come in and they said that unless I sold it to him directly he could not have it and that it must be sent back and checked out before Apple would allow it to go to another customer.

It just doesn't make any since to me that Apple would want to end up with thousands of black iPhone 4s that have to be checked out, reset, cleaned up, and re-boxed with new headphones and sold again as refurbished units for less than the price of the new iPhones.

I would imagine that the cost of getting all those black iPhones ready to resale would be greater than the 10% restocking fee they charge the customers.

Otherwise they may end up going up on the restocking fee by launch time if they can't get it together on the missing white iPhone 4.

You see I wonder if any of the venders offering the iPhone 4 on launch day would even loose much money on returns when all they do is turn around and send the device directly back to Apple, it's not like the customers will be given an option to buy any open box iPhones for a discounted price in the store.

This post is just wishful thinking. There will be no white iPhone on the 24th, or probably even the couple of weeks after the 24th. There are evidently manufacturing problems or at least supply problems which are preventing even Apple pinning a date on release.

I just saw the white EVO is a BB exclusive that you can preorder today. Maybe Apple wants to make their white phone more "limited" as a way to compete (read that as completly crush) with them.
