[Merged] iPhone 4 pre-order only available in black / not available in white

I hope they won't let you exchange it. You should be patient instead of buying something you have no intention to keep.
 
this is so frustrating. I never wanted a white one before, but I like the 4 in white. I was all set to order one white and one black today - and now this! I have no idea what to do. But I'm not ordering a black one if I want white. However, I need to sell my old ones fast while the market is still hot. THIS IS SO STUPID. Way to F up a launch Apple - why even show the white one?
 
I am holding off. I want the white model. I'll also wait until the dust settles. I don't even care to have the thing at launch. It would be nice, but no thanks to Apple for rushing out the launch when they don't even have both models ready to deliver. I was able to get a white 3G at launch.

iPhone Return Policy
If you are not satisfied with your iPhone purchase, please visit online Order Status or call 1-800-676-2775 to request a return. The iPhone must be returned to our warehouse within 30 calendar days from shipment to avoid an $175 early termination fee. The iPhone must be returned in the original packaging, including any accessories, manuals, and documentation.

Apple will assess a 10% restocking fee on any opened iPhone. Shipping fees are not refundable.

Note: iPhones must be returned to the original point of purchase (e.g., Apple Online Store, Apple Retail Store, AT&T, Apple Authorized Reseller) with a proof of purchase (e.g., Shipment Notification, Invoice Receipt).

it's 30 days, though this policy is a little outdated since the referenced ETF hasn't been changed to reflect the current $325.

yikes, forget it then if it won't be til september. really, who cares about the color, i just want a better performing phone. if the only choice was an actual color then i'd have a problem, but black is nice too.

Wow. Is it no wonder why companies act like douches to customers? Don't be a frickin' dolt. If you want a black one order a black one. Otherwise wait for the white one. All you are doing is potentially making it hard for someone who wants a black one to get one while raising ATT's costs which they happily push over to the rest of us. Hopefully ATT is wise to customers like you and blackballs them when they serial return phones.

I completely agree. I would love to have a phone on launch day, but we'll see. However, reading the thread full of people trying to pre-order RIGHT NOW is kind of fun.:D

Same here. *Just* cracked my screen a few days ago. The bottom 15% of the screen is unusable (touchscreen broken) so I can't make phone calls, can't access apps in the dock. There's work-arounds for some things, others there aren't.

I was ready to get the iPhone 4 anyway but now the white isn't available and I'm distraught! I think I'll pre-order the black for pickup in the store and if between now and launch day I hear that the white is only a few weeks away I'll cancel my pre-order and wait. If it turns out it's going to be september or something I'll have to settle for the black...

Just got off the phone with Ariel at Apple after waiting 30 mins on hold she stated that A. You cannot upgrade to the iPhone 4 if you are on a family plan with AT&T online and that you actually have to go to a store to do that (if anyone cares) and B. That they are trying to get the "kinks" worked out for the white iPhone and that it should be fixed sometime this week. I have no idea what this means but it ***** since I am just like a lot of others that are selling their phones in hopes of getting a white one and now waiting. I guess we'll see what the day/week brings

Spoke to representative about pre-ordering the White iPhone 4.

Apple: Hi, my name is Marie. Welcome to Apple! How may I assist you today?

Me: Hi. I was wondering when the White iPhone 4 will be available?

Apple: Currently we do not have ship times on the White iPhone.

Me: Do you know when I will be able to pre-order it?

Apple: I would keep trying every couple minutes.

Me: AT&T said that it won't be available until late summer, but you guys didn't say that. And ok. So it will be available for pre-order today?

Apple: The iPhone 4 will be available to pre order today and deliver June 24th.

Me: Yes. I know. I just wanted to make sure that I can pre-order the white iPhone 4 today. Because so far NO ONE has been able to pre-order it. Only the black.

Apple: Correct, the white iPhone is not currently not able to pre order.

Me: I wanted to know will I be able to pre-order the WHITE today? Is there an approximate time?

Apple: The White iPhone currently unavailable for pre-order, we do not currently have a time this will be available.

Me: Okay. Thank you.

Apple: You're welcome.
 
Yeah...I feel like a slight victim of bait and switch...
Not sure if model color plays into this law...but don't say it'll be available when it won't...and then definitely don't tease everyone by giving white ones to the devs to play with video and post on youtube, only to make everyone want it and not officially let us know it isn't available until hours before.

I'm peeved...and I'm holding out.
Although, it's their (apple's) fault...anyone that pre-orders the black one that wanted the white one because they were told it would be available should be allowed to swap it free of charge...it's just good business.

Somewhere in these forums someone also mentioned that an AT&T representative thought the white iPhone would be available starting July 4th. That kind of coincides with the "1 week" remark made by an Apple rep. I wish they would say something publicly about it though.

+1 I have come to enjoy my naked phone. And though I'll probably get a case for iPhone 4 just as a precaution, I know I'll want it naked at some point as well. Less smudges showing would be a plus.

Did they specifically say that all models would be available for preorder on June 15th? They said "iPhone 4" would be available. I understand the frustration, but I can't imagine any sort of legal actions are justified.

Not going to get mad over the whole thing, I think it is pretty crappy how Apple played everyone with the whole ordering and the white i4 issues, I think that is just down right low.

I am now thinking about not getting the i4 today and just waiting even though I wanted the 32GB Black one, I may try Best Buy later or just wait, I refuse to sit inline for hours just to pre order, my time is much more valuable then that anyway.

Time will tell and we will see what happens
