I've nearly convinced two co-workers to get the iPhone 4. One has T-Mobile, the other Verizon, both coming from dumbphones. I try to be fair and present the iPhone as just a smartphone made by Apple, but of all the things I do with it, they are very impressed.

Also worth mentioning, I was telling one about the antenna problem. I showed her it (mine does suffer), and her response was, "So what? Just don't touch that part." I was like "EXACTLY! Not everyone sees it that way," and went on to explain how I was getting the bumper and it would fix it completely and yada yada yada. We were watching an episode of Doug at work in our stockroom thanks to the Air Video Server app and she's pretty much sold on getting one now.

The other co-worker just likes the Chipotle app. We've used it twice now thanks to him.

The last person to make fun of my iP4 I tasered And sprayed pepper spray in their face.

Believe me when I tell you, they weren't laughing after that!

Bottom line, your phone = better than their phone.

All I know is that my phone will be a steaming pile of garbage until they fix the proximity sensor. It has nearly rendered the thing unusable as a phone, and forget about using your shoulder to hold your phone, apparently that is not one of the "magical features" Jobse built into the phone.

Apple is lucky the Captivate sucks or I would be switching. As it stands, I'm glad I kept my 3GS. I will not recommend the iPhone 4 to any of my friends until the proximity sensor is fixed, and when people start saying things to me about the iPhone 4 and it's problems, I usually agree with them and tell them mine is about to go back. Word of mouth is VERY powerful, I think some of you are understating it's impact. Obviously sales are still strong, but you have to remember that there is a strong lag between present day product quality and reputation. Toyota is a great example, they are selling cars now because of the reputation they built a decade ago, even though their current product isn't that great.

Eventually it will catch up with them.

does your iPhone 4 work as it should? if so you should demonstrate it's superiority as often as you can...that's what I do... seems to silince the riff raff...make a call, show the speed of the device, and compare the retina display to their cell phones...the jokes will stop
Yep and as soon as you touch that seam game over.

For the past few days i've encountered alot of people who have made jokes of my iPhone 4. "My phone dropped calls, I thought I had an iPhone 4 in my hand! lol!"

Not only did it happen once, but almost every time I show my iPhone 4 now. Less people are taking the phone seriously.

Take. It. Back. Then, For. A. Full. Refund.

I for one can not freaking wait for the iPhone 5, if for no other reason than people will finally stop posting thread after thread of the same redundant yammering about the iP4 antenna. I don't care if you're wrong. I don't care if you're right. I just don't care anymore.

If you think your take on antennagate is new and unique, guess what, it's not...to believe otherwise shows you as A.) too lazy to find a relevant thread to add to instead of clogging the ether with yet another thread featuring your special musings, and B.) too self important to think your musings are special.

Yeah, but you know as soon as the iPhone 5 is released, the media and/or fandroids will grip it as tightly as they can, and if one bar drops, off to YouTube they go...

It will never end as long as you guys keep reading about it, and talking about it, and joking about it. We keep fueling the media, and it has got to stop.

This kind of negative publicity may have a serious effect on the long term mind thought of Apple phones. Maybe the computers, iPads and iPods have a strong loyal base, but the iPhone is now the most important revenue driver and "halo" device from Apple.

Apple needs to make sure the iPhone 5 is nothing less than amazing. Seriously this time.

Who cares what other people think!!!

Most who criticize don't own an iP4 anyways and don't know the true pain and joy of owning an iP4

Walk a mile in an iP4 users shoes, then you can criticize.

Sendin mine bk tmrw, will purchase again i a month or 2 when reprots change, money isnt an issue but would rather wait to see what september brings :)

Lol at this thread.

First off: There is no way that Apple was going to recall 3 million phones voluntarily. Apple is all about the bottom line $$$. The only way they would recall that many phones is if the alternative would cost them more money (like multiple class action lawsuits).

Second off: The real selling power behind the current iPhone 4 is the reputation and the hype/marketing. There are at least 4 handsets out already that are as good or better than the current iPhone. Its clearly not the network or exclusive features that make the people line up for it.

Yes, the brand has taken a hit.... but I think its hilarious that there are people out there who all-of-a-sudden dislike their iphone 4 just because now its not trendy or cool to have one.

I guess that is the flip-side of having sales mostly powered by perception?

Anyways... if it doesn't make you happy, sell it and get something that does. No one is going to hate on you if you like your phone for legitimate reasons.

People don't want to believe it, but unfortunately, there isn't anything Apple can realistically do to help the reception problem other than give out free bumpers.

People keep wanting Apple to change the laws of physics. Do a software fix for a hardware design problem.

Can't happen.

But Apple is severely damaging the brand by not admitting the problem and insulting other competitors. They're treating their users like idiots. Eventually they'll wisen up and be upset they were taken advantage of.

I think Apple should have come clean. Admit a design problem. Say bumpers are the best they can do. Enjoy the phone for what it is with its limitations. Move on. They'll come out with an improved version someday in the future. In the meanwhile, with their sincerest apologies, if you don't like it with the bumper, return it.

What else can they do?
But this line that all phones do it is a lie and Apple knows it. The more they push this the more it will blow up in their face.

Ignoring the problem hurts the brand. The halo effect cuts both ways. As the halo gets tarnished, folks may not believe other things Apple says.

... Apple is all about the bottom line $$$. ...

:eek::eek: Say wha?!?! Apple is one of the few companies that has customer service above their bottom line on their priority list! They didn't need to send $175 million on free bumpers for everyone, but they did to keep their customers happy.

The iPhone brand hasn't been hurt at all, yet at least. The iPhone 4 is selling faster than any other phone, ever. And sales will get even better once it is released in more countries (I know I'll be waiting in line July 30th for one).

The iPhone 4 couldn't physically sell any faster because they're making them slower than they're selling them.

Haha seriously?? If apple was that good to the customers they would of manned up and gave out bumpers with everyphone! they wanted to get away with it. They got caught so they gave us the cheapest solution, free cases. This was my 1st iphone and the experience was crappy

But..... They are giving out bumpers with every phone...

You couldn't pack them in with the phone, or else you couldn't choose your color of bumper... This way, through Apple's website, it'll be one per phone, and you get to choose your color.

EDIT: Also, if you thought this experience was crappy, try any other phone. You'll come back. Before the iPhone came to Canada, I had a RAZR. You have no idea how much I hated that phone!

Despite people have been talking about dropped calls on the iPhone for as long as it have been out (2007), I have yet to experience a single dropped call on the iPhones I've had in Europe.

Be it in Denmark where I do my daily things, standing on a mountain in Austria or prowling the streets of Berlin.

The networks in the US most really be utter ****.

September brings nothing. Mark my words. Any redesign Apple makes will require FCC involvement and will effectively be a new model, which will bring on the wrath of all current Iphone 4 owners. Apple will do nothing more than offer bumpers. If they find some magical coating that doesn't affect the steel or color, doesn't flake off, doesn't cause rashes on people's hands, etc., and still fixes the attenuation issue, it will go on Iphone 5. They will not risk lawsuits and more bad press - REALLY bad press - from a silent fix. What you have now is the Iphone 4 that will continue to be sold until next summer. After that, it's game on.
