Its going to be like any Andriod phone. Bad hardware but good software. That's the problem with Andriod. Look at the Droid. Looks good, but physical keyboard? Design from the 90s? and of coarse my favorite, Verizon logo slapped there.

No thanks. Rule of thumb is. Stick to the same hardware vendor that makes its hardware & software. Guaranteed flawless performance, oh wait, there is, iPhone.

As much as I want to agree with the above post, you have to wait and see on this one. I honestly think this phone isn't going to do terribly well. It'll have a HUGE launch day, but nothing more than that. The phone looks ugly IMO. The keyboard looks impossible. The phone has great hardware specs, but are we really trusting Motorola to wrap all those goodies into one stable package?

I could be totally wrong here. And that's the point. Wait it out and get to test this phone out for yourself. Just don't get yourself caught up in minor details. Remember, this is a phone you'll keep for 20+ months before you're eligible for a new one. Long term is key here. Good luck in your decision making.

I hate that marketing crap. The same hardware provider and software provider makes it more stable. No it doesn't, the iPhone is an example where it went right, but it is not a rule to go by.

From the video I have seen though I have to say, it looks as if it will be laggy and a little unresponsive compared to the iPhone. IMO though you should wait until it comes out and then decide. These early videos may show it incorectly and maybe these bugs have been ironed out.

Two words:

Blackberry Storm.

Don't forget the hype!
I don't think anyone ever really considered that an alternative to the iPhone... which is also why you don't see any threads about the Storm 2 right now, even though it's already for sale.

I was with Verizon and got a BB Storm. It was my first BB and I liked it, or maybe I just didn't know no better. I got the phone in Feb. I was mad the price dropped down so severely in just 7 months.

I now have a iphone and all I have to say wow. I thought my Storm was fast but 3GS, blows my Storm away.

Huh? It took Apple a while to get it right. OS 1.0 was a joke and not to mention the dropped calls etc with the 3G on 2.0.

I will admit, finally with 3.1.2 and the 3GS I have a flawless phone but it took a long time.

I predict the same with the DROID. I think it will take at least until 2.x for them to get it right - but when they do it will be some nice competition. Not to mention a much more expansive 3G network.

If I was already locked into Verizon I would give the Motorola DROID some serious thought before switching to AT&T.

Well jumping ship for a phone I think is stupid. Just look at the number of people on these boards who left their carrier to go to ATT for the iPhone and then all they do is complain about the service. First choose the carrier that has good service were your. Many times these over laps and you have multiple carriers that work well were you need them 2.

Since it is so close you might as well wait a little while and see what droid is really like. Personally I do not like the face the iPhone is touch screen only and lacks a physical keyboard.

Droid holds promise and take a look at it.

I just remembered the 30 day return policy most carriers have for phones, but does that apply to contracts as well? As Napoleon Dynamite says, that'd be flippin' sweet

If I can try out the Droid and only face a minor restocking fee or w/e I'd definitely be willing to play guinea pig for a couple weeks :p

Verizon's 30 day guarantee is only good for new activations. For upgrades you have 10 days.

Good to know. Not quite as nifty as the 30 day period but still probably enough to get a feel for the Droid and hear what everyone else thinks... just hope I won't be too busy on that 9th and 10th day I guess :(

The "wait for the next version" mantra is a bit lame, considering that this is Android 2.0, not 1.0; it's also pretty lame hearing it from iPhone users that have OS issues of their own.

The Moto Droid won't be for everyone, and it's probably a safe statement that the OS and hardware will continually advance, just as the iPhone's did and does.

What about Nokia and that rubbish Symbian!???

Yeah if there is something terribly wrong with it, like DOA or something they will exchange it during 30 days on an upgrade, but after 10 if you feel like you don't like it then your SOL.

I agree whole heartedly about the first iphones, I was a huge iphone hater.. always dissing it saying it sucked.. Then years later my blackberry was coming to its end and iphone 3gs and 3g were sitting there, I decided it looked cool and seemed to be alot better, I now have had a 3g which I upgraded to a 3gs recently.. I think that the droid might be a good phone just like any other.. but I dont think the screen touch will be as smooth, and I actually heard if you are interested OP that the battery SUCKS.. thats the reason for interchangeable battery. I heard the battery life is terrible, Thats coming from a review website (dont remember which sorry) but If you really are torn wait and see whats better for you. I was already an att user and was at the end of my contract anyway.

Based on reviews I've read, it seems like the Droid's qwerty is really challenging to type on. They keys are flat and fairly shallow, which pretty much eliminates typing without looking at the keyboard (not that we're not used to that with iPhones, but isn't that the point of having a physical keyboard?). Also the screen slides up but apparently still sits really close to the top row of keys on the keyboard, which gets annoying because you're always bumping into it when typing.

Just to clarify, I haven't actually used one, this is just what I've heard from other reviews.

engadget have a revoew of the droid which by my reading says droid is OK but not much more than that. Android ain't there yet IMHO (do like the gold accents on the droid though and the sci fi start up sound)

Please tell me you are kidding.

You honestly believe that the iPhone and the current OS are "flawless" together??

Give me a break...

I don't think that's true at all. You might just have to pay a small restocking fee, but you still have a month, and most Verizon employees wouldn't refuse to return it, even if there is an official 10 or 15 day policy (which I don't think there is anyways).

I don't see it crash and I don't hear any complains from people who buy their iPhones. Honestly, if you take all the threads here as a en masse problem, you are dead wrong. This forum is for people with problems, so obviously you'll see more people with iPhone problems here than anywhere else.

It took years for Apple to refine the OS. If you think the current state of it is simply a result of the hardware + software being from the same company you are very sorely mistaken.

post hoc ergo propter hoc...

Clearly you lack some reading skills.

BTW, logical fallacies don't apply to my posts.
