Not having upgraded from the 3G to 3GS, I was excited to hear/confirm the new features. I feel as though I will be getting a nice upgrade in phone, especially for the price.

Geez, what the heck do people want?

-Thinner
-Faster A4 chip
-Better battery life
-Hugely improved screen...4x the pixels as the 3GS

-5MP camera with flash
-Front-facing camera
-Gyroscope
-Video calling

the 3GS seemed like a minor upgrade for me. Coming from a 3G to iPhone 4 is a big leap.

what do you want on it? it's a whole new redesign. no phone is ever worth full price, but as far as the iphone goes, this is a full redesign, so you really can't ask for much more

i mean seriously. I am an apple fanboy, and the iPad had my same opinion, but I bought it, i'm not saying i wouldnt buy this, because i will eventually, but i am one of those who didnt get an early upgrade, but the new iPhone isn't worth paying full price for it.

all thats new is Front Facing camera, improved camera, HD recording, better graphics.

seems like an 3GS 2 to me.

Don't flame me, I LOVE apple. Just dont think the anticipation was worth it.

What do you guys think?

What were you expecting?

One of the features not getting much mention is the separate and longer antennas (why they didn’t do this before is beyond me). They obviously recognized that wifi and especially GPS were sorely lacking in getting a good signal.

I think it represents a decent evolution of the iPhone product line. Note that I didn't say REVOLUTION...
Sure, I wish it came in a 64gb version, I wish iChat existed for use between phones & computers, I wish Face-to-Face was available via 3g (I think a reasonable inference from Steve's comment is that you can blame the carriers for not including that feature).
Overall, though, I think it's a worthy upgrade. I still have a 3g iPhone, so I will definitely be upgrading.

Ya, it's just a 3gs with a faster processor, better network chip, better camera, camera flash, front facing camera, gyroscope, better antenna, more (front) color options, new design, higher resolution screen, HD recording capability, bigger battery and a noise cancellation mic.

You're right, they should have just called it the 3gs2.

You forgot much improved battery. Personally, first blush, it's a grand slam. I did not upgrade from the original iPhone to the 3G because it offered me nothing more than slightly faster browsing speed. I upgraded to the 3GS b/c my original phone was getting laggy and it was time. I still love my 3GS but the iPhone 4 has enough significantly upgraded features to be well worth shelling out another $299. I probably will hold on to it for two years though and skip next years upgrade.

Bottom line: the iPhone 4 is the best iPhone ever, by faaaaaar. Anyone complaining needs to get their expectations down from Saturn.

How about a real camera flash? You know, like Sony-Ericsson's been building into their good camera phones since 2006? Or support for video chat (heck, make it Skype if you must) over 3G? If ATT can't handle it, find a new carrier.
Or a removable battery? Removable memory?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

Nice phone, but without a bump in storage it isn't worth it to me to get the new one, since I would have to pay 500 bucks to get the same capacity I have now. Sorry, but that was the deal breaker for me. I can wait until I am eligable to upgrade at the lowest rate.

The screen, battery and the A4 chip are the best improvements. I'm underwhelmed by some of the other stuff, like faces and what not.

Still its a good decent jump up from the 3Gs.

me, too

Definitely feel that going from 3G to iPhone 4 is a huge jump. I was not impresssed with the changes from the 3G to the 3GS and I am glad now that I waited.

Has anyone seen the non-upgrade eligible pricing for the iPhone 4?

For the last 2, you're going to be disappointed if you stay with Apple. You're better off moving onto another manufacturer.

It's not like something totally new, but I do think it's awesome. I mean, come on... the design is hot! What about the better battery?

iPhone 4 has EVERYTHING I was missing with the 3Gs. The camera flash, the better rear camera and a better display. The front facing camera is nice, but I didn't want that. Those 3 things I just named were really the things I was missing (and of course better battery, but feature-wise...)

It's hands down the biggest update in the iPhone's history. The resolution is higher than anything else, picture and video quality are hugely improved, it has the same processor as the friggin' iPad... Seriously, what the hell did you want?

Agree. I can't wait to get it. Glass & stainless steel > Plastic & Aluminum any day! (What are the competitor phones made out of? lol) Plus it's thinner and 40% improved battery life...

What more do people seriously want in a phone?

I haven't seen an Apple product released yet, where some people haven't said the new product was less than what they expected, or didn't meet their hopes/wishes for it. I personally love the iPhone 4 and wish I had a Dolorean to get to June 24th. Anticipation kind of sucks and then if there are supply shortages and I have to wait even longer, AHHHH!

THIS. Seriously.. these are BIG updates. Take any 3 or 4 of these things alone and it'd be a decent update. Also, I hate that a lot of people keep saying "Nothing new! We knew about everything already!" Um.. well duh! A prototype was leaked! It's not like Apple intended that to happen. I can guarantee that you would not be complaining if that hadn't happened. That's like taking a peak at your Christmas present a few weeks early, then opening it on Christmas morning and saying "Where's the rest??"
What on earth did you expect?
