i mean seriously. I am an apple fanboy, and the iPad had my same opinion, but I bought it, i'm not saying i wouldnt buy this, because i will eventually, but i am one of those who didnt get an early upgrade, but the new iPhone isn't worth paying full price for it.

all thats new is Front Facing camera, improved camera, HD recording, better graphics.

seems like an 3GS 2 to me.

Don't flame me, I LOVE apple. Just dont think the anticipation was worth it.

What do you guys think?

WRONG.....if you really were an Apple "fanboy" you like everything Apple breathes on before you even see it...and to refer to an Apple product as "not that great" eliminates your memebership to the fanboy club

What else did you expect aside from a 64GB option? Anyone with half a brain knew it wouldn't be 4G because there is no AT&T 4G in the US and won't be for at least six months. The whole bloody thing got a makeover. I don't know what else could be expected.

Agree. I can't wait to get it. Glass & stainless steel > Plastic & Aluminum any day! (What are the competitor phones made out of? lol) Plus it's thinner and 40% improved battery life...

What more do people seriously want in a phone?

Since you seem to be a materials expert, why exactly would you prefer steel to aluminum? More importantly, what is the benefit of metal over a high-quality plastic? Do you have hardness figures to cite? How about providing a deformation curve or two to show that the metals will elastically deform better? Or more to the point, citing reasonable tolerances for what you'd expect in the materials used? Also, I'm sure you've taken into account the fact that the plastic case will allow for better reception, right?

Very disappointing keynote

Once again we see the iphone chained to at&t and all the future iphone owners that won’t commit to at&t get a very disappointing day. I cannot believe that apple won’t see that people want more carries in the US and that a monopoly will hurt the iphone. We need more iphone carriers; competition will benefit the customer’s. Is apple about the customers? After viewing the google key note on “froyo” and the deception of the iphone 4 stuck on at&t, we will see millions of android phones sales starting today. I myself was waiting todays keynote to decide and apple you have made my choice and android. I believe that many users like me will be getting an android device and we will be able to see this boom once the statistics on the sales get revealed.

It's hands down the biggest update in the iPhone's history. The resolution is higher than anything else, picture and video quality are hugely improved, it has the same processor as the friggin' iPad... Seriously, what the hell did you want?

They want it to print money and fire laser beams and have a built in teleporter. But seriously, I respect the OP's opinion but in my opinion the iPhone 4 is great. It has a bunch of things that I don't need/use but are there if I want to use them one day and all for the same price (that may sound like I was being sarcastic but I'm not). The improved camera with flash, HD video recording, Video chat. Yes, I'll probably rarely use any of these features but they are there if I want to use them. Plus the better screen, processor, and battery life is just more icing on the cake.

40% improved battery life...

Excellent point! That alone makes it a worthwhile update for me. Add the faster chip, etc and it's easy to say yes to this one. As has been mentioned by others, people are always disappointed that Apple's iPhone upgrades don't include everything everyone wants, but that doesn't make it less enticing! (at least not for me):)

Funny that nobody asked a question of how's the reception and voice call quality. I sure hope the newest phone will improve on these very minor things too.

I actually think the hardware upgrade is pretty good (though we still don't know the specs for how much RAM it has...). Radio support would have been the only thing I'd have liked, though potentially it has been wired up this time...

The lack of work on the OS and the knowledge it really is as meh as we thought is the thing that's disappointing.

Phazer

I have to agree, FOR THE IPHONE this is a big update...

Compared to other competitors this could of been last years keynote

The one feature I most wanted (a 4.3 inch screen) is the one feature that's missing from this phone.

You can see in the pics, they made the phone a few mms longer, but the screen is a tiny bit smaller than the 3GS screen!

However, everything else got a massive upgrade so I will upgrading as well.

Just wish it had a 4.3 inch screen is all.

Funny that nobody asked a question of how's the reception and voice call quality. I sure hope the newest phone will improve on these very minor things too.

New antenna system.

Noise canceling.

Of course, we don't know until we get some reviews and hands on (which will be happening soon). But these changes seems to address the two items you are concerned with.

:)

i agree there is nothing that blows the new iphone out of the water.. they just evened the playing field .. the iphone is still a smart phone for stupid people...

i-c :apple:

We will see the iPhone on another carrier eventually in the US. Apple is a company and companies like money.

There's lots of money to be made by supporting another carrier. It's not really hard for a common person to see this as a reality.

you guys are never satisfied are ya?

Frankly, I think this was one of the least disappointing updates in apple history, speaking for myself of course.

Not having upgraded from the 3G to 3GS, I was excited to hear/confirm the new features. I feel as though I will be getting a nice upgrade in phone, especially for the price.

+1

I have an iPhone 3G and going from the 3G to the 4 is HUGE. I can't be more excited right now. All you people being negative Nancys can't bring me down.

I remember when the 3GS came out, the people that were eligible to upgrade to it were saying that the 3GS is the major update to the iPhone and the next one will just be a minor. The people that were not eligible to upgrade were saying the opposite. So basically it all comes down the each person's own perspective, and whether or not they are eligible to upgrade.

Jobs calls it iPhone 4 instead of iPhone HD to confuse the average Joe into thinking that it is a 4G device.... deceptive!

Sprint has the only 4G device, and I switched to it last Friday. I still use Mac's, but no more "walled garden" iPhone toys.

THIS. Seriously.. these are BIG updates. Take any 3 or 4 of these things alone and it'd be a decent update. Also, I hate that a lot of people keep saying "Nothing new! We knew about everything already!" Um.. well duh! A prototype was leaked! It's not like Apple intended that to happen. I can guarantee that you would not be complaining if that hadn't happened. That's like taking a peak at your Christmas present a few weeks early, then opening it on Christmas morning and saying "Where's the rest??"
What on earth did you expect?

Exactly.

I can already see all the Android phones fading away.
