Data is charged per phone. So if you were to join their family plan with an iPhone it would be $9.99 for the extra line, then $15-30 for data depending on what data plan you get for your phone.

I'm sorry, one more question- so just to confirm, you do NOT have to pay individual text plans with the $30 Family Text plan on the bill? Just for the extra line, data plan and all other services are included in the regular monthly total?

Correct.

Disclaimer: You should double check this info with at&t just to be sure. I believe I'm correct with the answers, but it doesn't hurt to verify.

Me too!

My contract for my run down blackberry curve on tmobile ended 2weeks ago.

I can't wait to get my first iPhone. I did go look at the eve today but I dunno I think the new iPhone is going to be hot. Also When I asked the sales rep at sprint that the charge for "premium data" ( on top of the unlimited data plan) was for he said it was for 4 g. I said " isn't that only in a handful of cities right now? When is it going to be here? He said yes and not for at least a year. And I had to pay for it anyway for when I travel. WTF? A cap isn't so bad when I would have tobpay forbad premium service with sprint that I can't even use!

Wow. That is totally crap. You're right, paying for a service you can't even use in your home city/ town is ridiculous. The only thing I'm really concerned with now is going from never having a problem with Verizon as a customer for like ten or twelve years now to AT&T's notoriously inept customer service. I just hope the network improvements they've been talking about lately will really improve their coverage and bandwidth- across the whole country ideally. If they can just manage to lower their dropped call rate significantly it would make a huge difference in my opinion. Currently they are almost 3 times more likely to drop a call than VZW according to a study I just read. I can't remember dropping a call in the last few years on Verizon, but I do realize that coverage varies a lot depending on lots of factors other than which carrier so I'll just have to jump on the bandwagon and compare for myself  So can anyone answer whether or not you can open and use your phone (say if I were to buy a 3GS this weekend) and exchange it when/ if a certain new model were to appear within the 30 day return period that I've heard about? I sure hope I can use it..

I find it funny that you waited 3 years for Verizon to get the iPhone and now you're leaving a few months before they get it. As an AT&T shareholder I hope there are many others like you out there.

If you're nice when you call rather than acting like a smug elitist, their customer service is top notch. At least in the business department.

I can't count on two hand how many times I've called in with problems on my bill and they've fixed it for me every time.

One particular time comes to mind. I found a charge on my bill for some ringtone service that was charging me $9.99 per month (obviously I hadn't initiated it because of how easy it is to make your own). It had been doing so for three months before I caught it. I called in and told them I had no clue what it was or where it had come from and the rep removed it from my current bill and credited me for the past two months.

Actually I wouldn't say that I waited 3 years to get the iPhone at all. I've been through a couple of decent enough phones in that time to make me feel like I wasn't missing enough to change carriers, especially with AT&T's reputation vs VZW, but I'm recently out of contract and employed at a University Campus Apple Store (big whoop- minimum wage and no commission or discounts) but through my sales training I earned a free MobileMe that is currently going to waste (nothing to synch to). So with the impending rate changes combined with my desire to hopefully capitalize on a new model, I figured it would make sense to pay half my current monthly bill by joining my family's plan and use my MobileMe. Well, that isn't happening because AT&T only allows a max of 5 lines- and I'd be #6. So unless I can find someone else with a plan I can join, I'm not going to pay $120 a month for one line on a whim and hope that it'll all work out how I want it to. Guess I'll be waiting those last few months after all but I'm sure it will be worth it. It was a thought.

Verizon iPhone: No? Yes? When?

I'm with Verizon Wireless myself, and will never change due to the excellent service I receive. I can honestly say I have never been without service while using my Verizon phone. With that said, I am extremely jealous of AT&T for one reason: the iPhone! I not only want an iPhone, but I need it! When, if ever, do you suppose the iPhone will be announced on Verizon, and when, if ever, do you think the iPhone will actually be available for purchase with Verizon?

P.S.: I'm new to MacRumors and I'm sure there are many posts regarding this topic already, but I just wanted to throw my own verbiage out there.

I know that it's not what you want to hear but we can't know until tomorrow. As far as guessing I would say (if anything) they will say "Later this year" or "early 2011" about Verizon. I do believe a verizon iPhone will happen. I don't believe we will get it until later this year at the earliest.

as far as we know, the iPhone is never going to verizon. it may somewhere down the road, but until either apple or verizon confirms this, it's not happening
