I have been playing with my iPhone for the past few hours, and I do not have the antenna problem that everyone is complaining about. I put a finger over the line on each side of the phone, I've held the phone in my hand as tho I was talking on it, and I have touched the phone on all 4 sides and signal quality never went down.

I wonder if all these people with the signal issues and yellow spots are just victims of a bad batch of iPhones.

Same here, not a single dropped call !

We all should come together and hate on blackberry, it totally sucks, we all agree on that

It's a huge problem for people who have it, however the problem the op has is that it is much bigger than it actually is because 95% of the people complaining about it are not iPhone 4 owners. Digg and Reddit have had a dozen top topics about this flaw; if you want cheap points, just write droid rulz! and if you want to never be heard from again, just try to have a legitimate engineering conversation about it.

Usually Engadget or Techcrunch and others write two stories covering Apple and they're tarred and feathered as Apple shills. Today they're accused of covering up the problem even after pointing out that they've each written 4 redundant articles about the problem. My only question is when will they surpass the reputation for smugness, arrogance, and amateurism that Mac users have.

I am starting to get frustrated with these Android users trying to find the smallest things about the iPhone and try to put it down for some kind of personal and sick satisfaction. A friend of mine is one of them, everytime something comes up on the news, he makes sure to comment on it ...! WTF !!
I just wanted to share my 2 cents...
First, I'm not being critical of you. I'm simply offering some thoughts. We live in a world where everyone has an opinion. What's wrong with that?

I'm platform neutral, I enjoy all types of mobile & computer Operating systems. Each has their pro's & con's. In my years of experience I've yet to find the "perfect phone" or laptop for that matter. So why not feel free to participate in a forum of public opinion like this one? If we all had the same preferences it would be very boring & we wouldn't learn much. I'd rather participate in a lively conversation any day.

The reception issues are serious. It's. It's not some small thing people are nitpicking about.
I agree.

But what they are doing is pinning it on the iPhone 4 as if this is some new issue.

I have 4 iPhones at my house, NONE are an iPhone 4, and they ALL have these issues with signal strength.

And yes, I can pick up my 3GS with full bars off of a table and watch the bars start to disappear.

With my 3GS, if I picked it up but did not squeeze it tightly, I would lose a bar or maybe two. Now, I lose all 3G signal all together and I'm holding the phone with as little pressure as I can.

If all your iPhones are so bad, have you ever though of trying a different brand?

Just did it with my 3GS.

5 Bars to 1 Bar.

This issue is not new to the iPhone 4 IMHO.

I just think some phones have the problem and some don't.

I've had the iPhone 4 since around mid day the 23rd and it's been 100% perfect. No dropped calls, no antenna wierdness, no nothing.

I feel bad for those people having problems, but it's not everyone. My wife has one too--no problems with hers either.

That proves that it is an iOS 4 problem and apple is releasing an update next week to fix it. As soon as monday.

So to everyone complaining about it (not you Rat-Boy), just chill out and live with it for 2 days. Hold it differently. Anything that will keep these annoying threads about reception off of the forum. Seriously, this forum is getting filled with countless threads lately about reception. We get it, it's a problem, now shut up!

Well.

My two 3G iPhones are not on iOS 4, so I am not convinced it is an OS problem.

I think it is a hardware problem.

Apple released a supposed fix for this already in the 3 series and it didn't do my phones much good.

I also am not convinced that other phones don't have similar problems given the right conditions.

I would love to have a thread going to compare those that are having problems vs those that aren't.

Serial numbers and locations and what not.

Just to see if it can be pinned down to certain areas or units of the phone.

I don't recall Apple officially stating that 4.0.1 will be out on monday.

I don't get this. If the new iPhone is * that* bad, and it just might be for some, or a lot of folks, take it back. If there is a fatal flaw the Apple store will take it back.

Vote with your wallet. All cc companies will side with you if there is a well known flaw. I haven't looked at the Apple/AT&T receipt to check the return policy, but I bet that if there's a basic design flaw, you'd be allowed to return it and get a full refund. They might charge an initial restocking fee (10%) but you'd get it back. Check with your cc company.

If you keep and/or buy the new iPhone knowing these things, or not going to return it....then ****!

Go buy some android thing and go qq on the boards there....Jesus H C****! Please stop the stupid effing anti-fanboi "I really even hate to admit I have and Apple product and this phone has proven my emo-ness".

Just go....

Is the new iPhone 4 perfect, or even close? Of course not, as it was created by humans, but there's a whole lot of people that like it and will persevere through the problems (which there are a significant few) to get a really good device.

*please* make your choice and if you choose to get something else, qq on their boards....

*rant over*

I'm going to wait to see if there's a fix.

If not. I'm going to take it to the Apple store on Monday.

Has anyone tried returning the phone?

Will they charge you the 10% restocking fee? Hopefully not because that's ridiculous.

There’s already a thread with some of that info. It shows nothing.

Edit: That one

I started a thread like that. It may help. I'd imagine that's what -aggie- is talking about above. :)

So far there doesn't seem to be any correlation between the serial numbers (week manufactured) and the occurrence of those defects, but who knows.
