I like the larger screen. I'll strongly consider it if the battery life is rated as it is listed (13 hours of 3G talk time).

Android has always intrigued me, but I'm too heavily invested with iOS because of all the apps I have bought. Nice looking phone though.

are you okay ?

I am strongly considering this phone over my iPhone 4 because the antenna problem is so annoying! I'm ready to try something new.

It is basicly the Galaxy S which pretty much every carry is getting just with a slightly different name and case.

Although I am a GSM guy, go to a better carrier with stronger reception.

Verizon

July 15 - Motorola Droid X

Three days sooner.

If you want the Captivate, get the unlocked version at least. I prefer to get Google's branded baby, Nexus One.

I'm seriously thinking about it. I'm fed up with this iP4 and Apples complete silence to the reception and proximity sensor problems. I have 9 days before I have to make a decision about returning this phone. If apple doesn't come up with a "real" fix then it's going back. I'll reactivate my 3gs and then decide whether I'm going to get the Captivate.

I just showed this phone to my dad, he went nuts, he was actually waiting to get his hands on a Galaxy S phone, but he couldn't wait, got the EVO instead and stuck with it, he kinda regrets it now.

This phone truly is AT&T first high-end android phone, and even more now with companies like T-Mobile, Sprint and Verizon are getting the other variations of the Galaxy S, this phone will really step and join in with HTC & Motorola rankings.

Don't get me wrong guys, I will not be getting rid of my IP4, I love it. I'm just posting this because not everyone feels the same way I mean cmon, look at the poll. It even surprises me.

Its another alternative for those who will return their ip4 if Apple's fixes don't meet their expectations. Its available on 7/18 so I will stop the local AT&T store on Monday and see what its all about. The only issue with AT&T's android lineup is they cripple the apps. Also its reported AT&T had samanug remove the front facing camera for their units.

It wasn't ATT that had them do that, all the providers except Sprint that are getting the Galaxy S line have the front cameras removed

A couple videos that compare the iP4 and Galaxy S. Keep in mind that Galaxy is running Android 2.1 and will be getting the 2.2 very soon via an over airwave download sent to phone.

Just an interesting comparison. The 2nd vid is under the first one in case you dont scroll down far enough and 2nd vid has the phones in action. First one goes over phones specs and what is on them.

That was a great video comparision. Will definitely check out at the AT&T store next week.

I'd love to get this phone, but I just like HTC's overlay so much better. The UI just seems like an iPhone ripoff, somewhat cheap, plastered with ATT crapware. Unfortunately, the HTC Aria is somewhat weak when compared to the iphone. The flash on the iphone is a huge selling point for me as well. Not for use with the camera, but for use as a flashlight. I used to use the flash on my old sony ericsson as a flashlight all the time.

I wish I was on Sprint so I could get the Evo.

Why aren't you interested in the Samsung Captivate?

I own the Iphone 4 and I love it, I am however finding myself intrigued by the Samsung Captivate. I think it sucks there is no camera flash but in all honesty, I rarely use my phone camera and even more rare to use it in the dark.

Besides that, I do love me some iOS and the design of Apples Iphone. I don't have any issues (even though I can recreate the signal deal) though I do think Apple is being ridiculous. I'm also hesitant to give up the Retina display, but Super AMOLED is no slouch is it?

My work phone is a Droid Eris which is a poky sample of Android OS. I don't know, I think I'm just looking for someone to talk me out of the Captivate once and for all.

The phone comes out Monday and I have until July 23rd (my birthday) to decide.

Help!

:)

I find it interesting and tempting for a few reasons:

1) 4 inch screen
2) Similar layout to iphone, so easy transition. Dock, app pages, etc
3) Hardware is basically the same A4 chip as the iPhone4. Samsung manufactures both, both use same core/architecture. Captivate is an actual 1ghz though, seems like the ip4 is at about 800mhz. Also same graphics chip, gyroscope, etc.
4) Form factor is nice, build quality seems good, and Samsungs usually get great reception (in my experience).

It's definitely tempting. If Apple doesn't own up to their faults by next Tuesday's earnings call, that will be a violent shove in that direction for me.

I am in the same boat at the moment too but I think i'll stay with iphone 4 because of how supported it is.

My biggest reason for wanting something different is I am kinda getting bored with iphone OS I have been with it since 1st gen but it just works oh soo good!

I need to get my hands on it first. Also, I might be more interested if it was on Verizon.

1) Don't like the build quality of samsungs products they feel very flimsy and have a creaking noise quality.

2) Samsung has burned users in the past as far as future upgradeability (i.e samsung behold) when they promised it would be upgraded to 2.1 and then it wasn't

3) Camera has no flash and no matter how much samsung says night mode is better than flash. It's not.

4) Has the same exact processor as the iP4. It's a hummingbird processor which is pretty much the a4 which is an underclocked cortex A8.

Main reason? The iOS and the app store.
In some ways, android is nice. The same way as Linux is nice - I don't fancy it as a phone, but is good as a computer or hobby device.

I think that's actually a good example; although comparing specs rather than usability across platforms is pointless, the iP4 seems to just have the edge in pretty much every feature.

The upgrade wouldn't be in Samsung's hands. It will be running Android which is completely upgradable.

I am going to wait until the 29th day for my iPhone 4 before returning it to see if Apple makes a move then I'll make my decision.
