Yep another feature to consider (no front-facing camera) but w/o FaceTime some users may not care. And with AT&T's new data pricing restrictions for new smartphone users, video calling over 3G/4G may not be desirable anyway.

I've been making 3G video calls over fring the last few days and my data usage since June 16 is only at 200mb. Don't think I'll ever come close to the 2gb. And if I do, big deal. 10 bucks buys another gig and that's just $5 more than the original unlimited plan

Really looking to get the IP4 the 2nd week of August when I'm eligible for a full upgrade w/AT&T. However if Apple doesn't address the prox. sensor and antenna issue, this phone WILL be my fallback position.

The proximity issue is sporatic as mine doesn't have it. So your best bet is to buy an iP4 and test those issues before leaving the store. If your 4 has problems then get the Sammy instead.

I did read the title. It's still an iPhone forum.

You know, I love my iphone 4, I have no issues with it. I'm one of the ones getting sick of hearing people whine about the antenna issue (if it's too much to ask you to change your hold or get a case, then get a different phone! I mean everything has its flaws. If the flaws are something you aren't willing to deal with, then go with another phone. If the iphone still has enough features you like that you don't want to get rid of it, then you're just going to have to deal that you will have to compromise some. It's not as if the phone is unusable like some people exagerate. If it was that unusable then you would see a whole ton of returns and Apple would be forced to do something about it by either discontinuing the model or finding a fix/redesign). I still like reading about the competition though.

It's interesting to see what the competition is doing and even if you are rooting for the iPhone it's good to see what the competition is up to.

Besides, maybe one day the competition might introduce a feature you really would use a lot or fix the issues the iphone has (cause, everything has issues, evne if they are small ones that don't bother you too much) and you won't know if you refuse to even give the competition a small glance.

I don't mind hearing about other phones. I've been using the iOS for two years and will be using it for another two years. As much as I love my iP4, looking at the same ol' tiles does get boring. The UI really hasn't changed much and Apple is barely just letting us change the homescreen background after THREE years without JBing it. I figure some posters are still new to the iPhone world or too dense (blind fanboy) to look for any alternatives. Variety is the spice of life! There are people out there who don't drive just ONE car or men who can't stick with ONE woman. Right, playa? ;P Nothing wrong with carrying different phones either. I knew people who own iPhone for fun, but still used a BlackBerry for work. Open your eyes.

To me, the best GSM-based Android is still the Nexus One. I am not a fan of Samsung products to be honest with you even though they do make some of the internal chips and screen for other companies. At least the Galaxy S series meet the Gingerbread requirements. I just like the form factor of the Nexus One more. It also is more *rare* since it didn't sell so well because of the lack of marketing. The occasional cynic in me doesn't always want the most popular and carry around a phone that everybody has. With 1.7 mil iP4 sold in three days doesn't make me feel special. With the black bumper on, the iP4 can be confused for any older iPhone. Think different, right Zealots? That's why I was looking into the Nexus One...

Google's first-born and likely only son. First superphone of 2010. It will get all the updates first. Unlocked too. The epitome of the "geek" phone. After 6+ months of release, it could still hold its own. The Froyo update just made it blitz ahead of the pack when it comes to web browsing.

Good post. I would choose the iPhone over this one and as a jailbreak fan for the last 4 iPhones I can't wait until they release the upcoming jailbreak.

This phone is not the best Droid driven phone but it seems like a step in the right direction for AT&T. This also falls in like with the exclusivity ending soon.

If the updates don't fix my iP4 problems, this may be my next phone also.

Hey Sledutah! I live in west Jordan... Where do you have most of your issues? I was in tooele(stansbury park) yesterday, & I couldn't make the bars drop!! At my house, i hold it the "wrong way" n it drops to nothing... But out there, The signal was really strong I guess! ;) time to move!! Haha

Ive tried out alot of android phones i continue to be unimpressed by them the touchscreen respons seems to be slugish on the iphone and every time i try a phone at best buy etc if theres alot of apps on the phone when I scroll down i always wind up opening a app which is a pain in the neck. that never happens with me when I'm on a iPhone the other draw back for me is the quailty of alot of the apps example the official twitter app is a rehash of Twitters mobile page and Facebook i hear just flat out sucks. and lack of any or good games to.

I got to play with one for a few day and compare it to a friends i4.
Excepting the display, the N1 on froyo exceeds the i4 in function and form.

End result: my N1 arrives in a couple of days.
I'll update after a few days using it.

If it's of any relevance, the Samsung Galaxy S phones do have something in common with the iPhone 4. The Apple A4, manufactured by Samsung, was modified to their design and rebranded as the 1GHz Hummingbird chip for use in their high end phones.

Any phone is potentially an alternative to an iPhone. Why should this be posted in an iPhone forum?

Samsung worked with Intrinsity before it was acquired by Apple. In fact Intrinsity and Samsung announced the Hummingbird last July.

The flaming is just immaturity. I have had iPhone's since 07 and really like my 4 but this phone looks nice. Let's try to keep the idiocy to a minimum.

This phone is going to be very nice. Will also have much improved reception on at&t over the iPhone 4's lousy antenna design, IMO. However, the user experience while very good still will not rival iOS4. No other Touch Screen device scrolls, expands, contracts, flips, spins, or summersaults like an Apple device. I don't see 2.2 Froyo changing this from my experience.:apple:

Meh, the hardware seems nice, but we're still talking android here and for the same price as the iPhone. A better alternative would be the pre plus, very elegant os and you can get free on contract.

A couple videos that compare the iP4 and Galaxy S. Keep in mind that Galaxy is running Android 2.1 and will be getting the 2.2 very soon via an over airwave download sent to phone.

Just an interesting comparison. The 2nd vid is under the first one in case you dont scroll down far enough and 2nd vid has the phones in action. First one goes over phones specs and what is on them.

Well, only if your function does not require you to use your iTunes library or other Apps from the App store.

Glad you found something you like. I'm on the other side of the fence where I love the walled garden and locked down nature of the iPhone. I'm a nuts-n-bolts sort of guy, but not on my hip device, thankyou very much. If the Android world ever settles down on consistent hardware and updates I may look into them :)

This is the phone I may end up getting. I returned my iPhone 4 because of the reception issues and am currently back on my 2007 iPhone. I want a modern phone badly...

I am going to check this one out in person at an AT&T store first, then wait to see if the white iPhone 4 has the reception issues. I may also cave on another iPhone 4 if AT&T sends a free microcell our way. I'm at least glad that AT&T has a good phone besides iPhone now. I like WebOS, but the hardware is just too dated.

The proximity sensor is a non-issue. I have three iPhones, and none of them have any issues with it. The antenna problems == issue. I just purchased a full silicone case on Amazon I thought would look nice, and the antenna problems are no more.

My mom is eligible for an AT&T upgrade in about two days and I kinda want her to get a Palm Pre Plus. They seem to have a very enthusiastic homebrew community. The hardware is already dated and the build quality feels cheap. And she doesn't like those mandatory data plans. She'll likely hold onto her Motorola Z9 and just wait later this year for another dumbphone.

I think Samsung makes too many cookie-cutter touchscreen phones that lacks the resell value six months later. Been like this since 2007. This Captivate seems like it has a nice screen with cheap build quality. I see Samsung phones like this all the time. Just doesn't seem high-end to me. No LED flash and crippled by ATT is already a deal breaker.

I think HTC and Motorola make the best and most popular Android phones. Not Samsung, Sony Ericsson, or LG.

I had the iPhone 3GS and the 4 and I took the 4 back and cancelled my contract. The 4 is the Worst phone I have ever owned period. I am not back with verizon and have the incredible and I would put that against the 4 ANY day. Better network and phone. You guys can keep your pos iPhone 4's and all there problems. Apple loves customers like some of you. Keep defective equipment because it looks cool. It is the best looking phone out there but functionality, the incredible will do everything the 4 will do and do it faster. Just stating the facts.

Is it OS X compatible? That's what's tipping me towards the iPhone in the first place.

Android based phones, unlike the iPhone doesn't need a computer to sync with. Its all based on the cloud. The only fly in the ointment is the your music and for that you have doubletwist or salling media sync. Both can import your music and playlists from itunes.

Personally I found Salling to be quicker and easier to use.

Good call man! I like this.... Exactly what I was thinking ;) iPhone is just simply put, easy to use, everything is right there in front of you... No questions, just take it and you're up and running! Love my 4!
I had a 2g, 3G, 3GS, n now the 4! All on or around launch day! Except this year, ordered from AT&T n got it one day early! The 23rd! Yes!!

That's the reason I love the iPhone, how well it synchs with my Mac. I use all the stock apps on my Mac for media, documents, calendar events, etc. so having everything transfer over with zero effort is great. While I think this is a nice phone, it's no for me.
