Not our job to convince you. You obviously want the MBA since you posted here in the MBA section. You should probably wait now that the MBA rumors are back. See what happens to it. Maybe you will have a choice of two or three different MBAs.

There was another thread about the iPhone 4 that was like, "CONVINCE ME TO BUY THIS." How droll.

If you use Windows a lot, The Vaio is probably the better box for you. It seems like it has a cheap, plasticy feel to me though. Do not want.

Are you a teenager who can't make any decisions without adults?
relax;)

Yes, usually people willing to spend that kind of money don't need guidance in making a decision. I would not let somebody else spend my up to 2 grand!

Oh well,.. so why do we need the "Buying tips" forum at all?

We can give you advice, but as already mentioned, we're not here to CONVINCE you...

Saw the Vaio Z Today and Wow!

I went to a mall today and it had a Sony Style store so I went in because Ive only ever been in one once before and they had a bunch of vaio z laptops on display and wow they are really nice. The size is perfect, there fast and there great looking. Does anyone else feel the same way? Im starting to think that may be the computer I bring to college with me next year.

What is wrong with your MBP, that you plan on replacing it with the VAIO ? :)

Not gonna Lie, I just read the specs and options on the Viao Z and I must say theta computer alone makes the MacBook Air and Pro a Joke.

The Z can have:

512SSD

8GB Ram

It has the 330GT but with 1GB of Vram and Intel Graphics standard

Core i5 or i7

A 1680-1900 display standard

3lbs

And it has all the ports and Blu Ray all the whiners complain the Air doesn't have.

The 13inch Z series laptop Makes Apple entire lineup look dated or just lacking with more CHOICE and options for the consumer.

I thought apple was about CHOICE for the consumer, if I want a 512SSD in a MacBook Air and that option will cost 1500 then let me do so. At least give us the choice.

Just priced one out with those options. Cost is $4,319.99.

Think I'll stick with the MBA.

But at least you have the option to pay that. Or you at least know the system can hold that much and you can get third party ram and a SSD else where.

Do you see what I mean by lack of choice? Apple is limiting your possibilities with the machine because they don't want you to have 4GB ram.

I mean the fact they cripple the MacBook with 2GB ram is insane, what's wrong with 4GB across the board?

Why did they get rid of the Black MacBook?

It's little stuff like this that makes apple look more anti-choice then pro Choice for the consumer.

Why keep the 9400m in the 21.5inch iMac ?

Apple and Steve are clearly not thinking.

It can have the most magical specs on the planet, but is it still running Windows? Okay, that's a huge negative. Does it have the cheap, plasticy feel that's synonymous with Windows machines? Okay, that's another huge negative. Is there a resale market? A place where you can get it fixed? A company that will back it up with updates?

I think there are plenty of people that would groove on this box. That said, I think there's a baseline low level of quality that is par for the course when you buy a Windows machine. Maybe this one is different, but I have no faith in it.

Nothing really its just next summer it will be 2 years old and I planned to buy a new computer for college anyway and saw the Z today and just thought it looked great and it specs were excellent. The reviews rate it as the best 13" notebook out there.

Vaio Z Hackintoshed. Good machine with great OS! Maybe I could try this instead of a MBP. However if you want the larger battery the Vaio Z gets bulky I think.

It's a VAIO which means, there is a resale market, and there is someone who will fix it.

As for your critique of the Windows OS, whilst you may prefer Snow Leopard, Win 7 is not a "negative" for many users, it is a matter of personal tastes.

The plastic feel of a windows boxes is somewhat alleviated by VAIO design, well some vaio designs, but I don't like it, so I agree with you on that point.

Yup, that's what a messageboard is - a place to share opinions. I'm not a fan of Windows, but there are plenty of people with great reasons to use it. I am expressing my personal taste, obviously.

I had no idea there was a resale market for Vaios, but it makes sense - since they're better than the average Windows box. As far as Sony backing them up, my only use of a Vaio with Windows ME. That was a nightmare getting driver updates through Sony!

I wouldn't say it makes the MBP like a joke, because the tech differences are minimal. However, the Vaio Z uses much more advanced and powerful tech in the same weight as the MBA. And the Z offers very similar power and performance as the MBP at a 1.5 lb. drop in weight.

I definitely wish Apple would take the MBA back into the premium luxury brand flagship Mac notebook. I mean raise the prices up to the same level as Vaio Zs. Jack up ALL of the components. Put a Core i7-640LM, with an ATI 5830, with 8 GB RAM, with 256 GB SSD, with USB 3.0 port, with LightPeak port, and with Mini Display Port.

In addition, offer aluminum capped keyboard keys, IPS displays, and an OLED multitouch trackpad that runs "touch" based OS in a shell on the trackpad or it can be used as normal trackpad, or it could show the display's image on the OLED trackpad and allow precise touch interaction without having to move hands up to display and tracking fingerprints all over it.

I would prefer they not touch the battery beyond making a 3 lb. MBA. Use a hot swappable battery pack. Use an internal battery for when swapping batteries, but this could give a wide range of potential MBA users the usage they need when away from a power source. Those of us like me don't want a larger battery, because that means more thickness and more weight. Apple already has that sort of laptop available, MBP.

Definitely stick with 13.3" OR also offer a 14.x" virtually eliminating the bezel around the display. Could offer three sizes. This would also allow different battery requirements. Keep an executive "limited edition" model at $5999 as a flagship product with ALL of the bells and whistles; the OLED multitouch trackpad, IPS display, and all of the tech adjustments making it as dominating as the MBA was when introduced as v 2,1 in October 2008. Apple can give us a new real reason to believe in its balance of designing incredible Macs while also pushing forward with the iOS products.

Until Apple updates the MBA, I would encourage many consider the Vaio Z if they like Windows 7. I love the MBA, and I don't need the power for my traveling needs. With my new Mac mini, I have room for Windows 7 over there. I no longer need my MBA to have all of that. However, the day Apple updates the MBA is the day I go back to a one computer system... assuming it's an advancement over the current MBA, and fully capable of doing everything I need and WANT.

Well, that's because you were using Windows ME...that was a failure.

I should also probably state for the record that I like OS X more than Win 7, but I don't view a lack of OS X as a breaking point for the decision of what box to purchase.

Mac OS X. I rest my case....

However since you mainly use Windows, just go and get your PC and join SonyRumors.com
