I think that Apple is going to screw this all up. There are probably going to be about i'd say 500,000-1,000,000 iPhone 3GS' in the KY sort facility by tomorrow. Each one individually packaged. The sort facility can process 300,000 per hour so that won't take too long, but it will take up their entire system, something is bound to go wrong. With such a buildup of packages and then having to sort them and ship them via next day air I bet some people get screwed. UPS is bound to have some issues. Shame on Apple, they should have just let us have our iPhones early... but that's just too much to ask. Things need to be made difficult.

Any minute the UPS truck is going to pull up and drop off my phone...

(or not)

At any rate, the 3 holds I had just came off and it shows my 3G S on scheduled for delivery today - just like it did before the holds in Kentucky... It would have been cool to get it early, but seeing as there are going to be some that don't get one this week, I'm perfectly happy with them meeting the release date.
(for those that care, I ordered around 7pm June 8th, from apple.com)

Ordered June 12th as well. Same place and time.

need insight on this.... if my iphone is departing dallas, texas into ontario, california (found this out on boxoh) and the UPS service is Next Day Air Saver, does that mean its flying or being taken on a truck to ontario which will then be delivered to where im suppose to get them in san diego...

cuz if its flyinngg.. i found a UPS flight coming into ontario that fits in the timeline

did you just get your tracking number today? cause your first track is from U.S. and not china..so i'm assuming your iphone was in a U.S. distribution center...? when did you order yours?

when should I expect a tracking number from apple, tonight, tomorrow morning? I'm still prepared for shipment. I'm in the eastern standard time zone.

16GB Black Model
Ordered June 12 from Apple

My White 32gig is piggy backing with your lack 16 gig. :D

Here's an interesting one. Upon arrival scan in Anchorage, the Shipped To: line changed from Alexandria, KY (where I live) to Alexandria, OH (where, oddly enough, I don't live). It had the right state listed before. Wonder how long it will take them to figure that one out. lol

I agree that adding to the potential chaos by intentionally delaying the packages is foolish, but whether not it actually affects something like lost packages, remains to be seen.. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

There will always be a few cases that fall between the cracks (perhaps literally in this case), but I think the vast majority of Apple's shipments will be delivered on time.

Thank you for this. First real hard evidence I've seen that there are shipments coming out of the US as well as China. Gives me some glimmer of hope that my "Prepared for Shipment" 3GS will get here in time after all.

I live in KY and it shows the same thing. Mine is supposed to be delivered to Covington, KY, but it shows OH. I checked the order status, and address shown is correct; it probably shows that bc it will go from louisville to the cincinnati OH hub, then delivered to here in alexandria and covington

I'm feeling better about the Friday delivery date. Bonus that I had it shipped to the office instead of home.

Funny thing? My folks are visiting and meeting the fiancee's family this weekend, so I'm going to be pretty booked from Thursday night to Sunday evening. Not sure when I'll actually get to start using the phone!

Has anyone had any experience transfering their phone number from Verizon to AT&T with the iPhone? Is it part of the activation process or will I have to call AT&T?

ur welcome. yeah, i have a feeling there have been plenty of the new iphones in the US for a while... just stored away in dallas, texas! does anybody have an idea of why at&t preorders came out of here? is at&t's or apple's distribution center here?

Ah yes, with all her quotes imagining the iphones as little people on the plane with their seatbelts fastened and their little tray tables...seems like only yesterday

ok...... where'd the article go? i saw it at work but had to leave.... now it won't load at home! :(

ok.... nevermind... i used the link posted above and not the one i emailed home....

absolutely!
as long as you wake up tomorrow morning with a "Shipped" order status. Seems the phone can make it from China to the US by one day. (Assuming it ships at 4AM PST and arrives in KY by 10PM PST)
;)

What's the first thing you are all going to do when the UPS guy rings your doorbell on Friday and you sign for your iPhone? Take it out of the box and look at it for a few hours before opening? Rip through the packaging and start playing with it? Apply a screen protector before turning it on???

My problem with this system is that before they said delivery "by" June 19. Now this means that you will have it before June 19th. There is a world of difference in those two words. If I have it tomorrow, then I can go to the AT&T store early on the 19th and get it activated. I figure I'll have to do that as I'm changing carriers.

Now if I get it "on" June 19th, hopefully around 10:30 to 12:00 I'll be way back in line by the time I get to the AT&T store. I'm having the phone shipped to where I work for safety reasons, and I scheduled a day off so I could get to the store early. Now I'll have to go to work and wait until it is delivered (whenever that may be, as normal UPS does not deliver there until after 2:00 PM) then drive about 25 miles to the store. It really puts a crimp in my schedule.

Since the phone cannot be used until it is activated there is no rhyme or reason for this hold up, actually they are making things harder all the way around as now they have to get all deliveries done in a short amount of time which seems to me to be impossible. The system looks like it is going to breakdown seriously, and a lot of people are going to be very unhappy. :(

Unless the status says "Out for Delivery", it will not be delivered today. You will see that delivery date change tonight or tomorrow AM most likely when UPS updates their system again. Trust me, this has happened to me several times in the past with normal stuff being shipped.
